Back in August 2009, I performed a major expansion for this list. Before, it only displayed the medalist tables. I added a considerably sized and well sourced lead section, as well as free-licensed images valuable for the list, and a statistics section also present in similar featured lists. I wanted to nominate this list at that time, but with the Vancouver Olympics approaching, I thought about waiting until the 2010 Olympic skeleton events were concluded, so this list could enjoy 4 years of stability. *Comments This actually serves as a great model as I'm working on List of Olympic medalists in baseball in my sandbox which is similarly recent and with a similarly short history at the games. Looks quite good, just a few small things.
  • Repeat citation #3 after the 2nd paragraph statement about the 1928 brothers. Currently their brotherhood is uncited (or at least looks like it, cite 3 covers that).
  • Do you have any further information on why skeleton was suddenly reintroduced after decades and decades of absence? It's recent enough I imagine any decent newspaper search engine like Lexis Nexis will provide boatloads of articles from the time discussing it.

  • I like the image and I've tested adding it, but because I have to render it as a thumbnail it gets quite small, so I'm a bit torn... In the end, do you find it really necessary? I already have an image for each of the past three Olympics, each one representing a notable moment: Shea, the first Olympic champion in 54 years; Duff Gibson, the first Canadian champion (now that there's two), and Amy Williams, the first individual gold medalist for Great Britain at the Winter Games in years.   • Not necessary, by any measure, but I think it's nice to see a full platform. What about under the subheader for the "medals by year" table (since it shows multiple nationalities of winners)?   • Done. Well, I ended up adding that image, afterall. I noticed I was adding unnecessarily the upright parameter, which slightly reduces the image thumbnail width. So I got a reasonably bigger size for the picture with the three medalists, and it looks good now. Plus, its caption mentions the first time medals for Russia and Latvia in skeleton, highlighting the notability. Parutakupiu (talk) 03:29, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Now that a Canadian has won in 2010 (really even just with 2010 happening) Gibson's image caption should read "was Canada's first Olympic skeleton champion." Staxringold talkcontribs 20:35, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Mildly perplexed as to why this article is twice the size of the parent article Skeleton at the Winter Olympics. And a lot of overlap. Should this just become the parent article?
    • The expansion of this particular list comes in a sequence of other similar lists being improved towards FLC nomination. In order to get these lists featured it was necessary to add a substantial but concise and relevant lead section. Since this list must concern only about Olympic medalists in skeleton, I tried to restrict the leading text to the medalists. Some info might be overlapping with the parent article, namely history of the sport and nation stats, but it's just to contextualize. The parent article, when improved, should have a content more focused on the sport itself (history, rules, stats, etc.), that will also include the info in this list, in a summarized way.   • "this tobogganing sport" any way of merging that into the opening sentence about the sport itself rather than the awkward "this..." construct?
  • "a single four-run event for men" not easily accessible to non-experts. Perhaps "an event for men contested over four runs"?
  • "for a single Games in St. Moritz, at the 1948 Winter Games" - Games gets a quick (and dull) repeat.

  • "an additional event for women" do you mean that the sport now included women? Or was there something different about the "event for women"? Just sounds a little "out there" when I guess all it means it that the event became co-ed/unisex, however you want to express it.

  • "behind in the total time" another good reason to explain the "single four-run" business.
  • "he would repeat this.." why not just "he repeated this"?
  • "—conquered the gold medal" - do you "conquer" the gold? or do you win/secure/gain/achieve/obtain it?
  • Explain NOC.
  • "was the first British athlete, since 1980, to win " comma overdose. A normal sentence wouldn't need those as far as I'm concerned.
  • "Athlete medal leader" table is a bit odd. No gold medal winners, this table just includes "multiple" medal winners. In 99.9% of the world, one gold is ranked above a gazillion silvers. So this table is a little silly right now. Perhaps until 2014 we could call this "multiple medal winners" or something similar.
    • You're right: this should be a table listing multiple medal winners (don't know why I didn't change that title sooner...). It appears a bit unnecessary for now because there's just too few medalists to even have multiple medal winners. Parutakupiu (talk) 00:06, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • General ref is work of "Olympic.org", ref 1 is work of "Official website of the Olympic Movement" but both are same website. And general refs don't have a publisher despite them having one in the specific refs.
  • Current ref 7 has mixed date formats. MOS says date formats in refs should all be the same.

  • Hyphen for "first ever" in second paragraph? And another in the third paragraph?
  • "gave Great Britain not only its sole medal at the Games but also its first individual gold medalist since 1980 and first individual female gold medalist since 1952." I never like these "not only ... but" types of sentences. They always feel overly wordy and can be done without that phrasing.

  • This sentence in the lead, "His younger brother John Heaton finished as runner-up, having spent an extra second to complete a total of three runs..." is worded awkwardly. Consider rewording, "His younger brother John Heaton finished in second place by one second." - Suggestion.

  • Who won the bronze in 2006? Leaving this info out but talking about the fourth place sledder and a near-Canadian sweep is a bit unbalanced towards Canada.
