I am nominating this for featured list because I plan on creating this series of lists soon (for the Wikicup) and want to get the style down pat to make the process easier.   • You have some redlinks and some "blacklinks" for players and schools... is there a difference?
  • Not really. The players I left blacklinked because the vast majority are guys who never made the majors and (particularly for the older ones) are unlikely to ever meet notability standards. I suppose the difference is the school could gain the notability to warrant an article, but I'll delink for now. Gonna leave Randy Sterling redlinked, however, as he does technically pass WP:ATHLETE having played (briefly) in the majors (similar to that article you created which I often cite when discussing WP:ATHLETE, Drew Carpenter).   • The thing is I can't really. Many have very generic names, and the precise style for disambig'ed schools isn't consistent enough to where I could point to the proper spot for the article anyways. Plus, it's a very common practice to leave redlinks blacklisted when they are in large quantity (to avoid looking incomplete, I assume). See List of unreleased Michael Jackson material (I'd say a Michael Jackson song is more notable than some random high school) or List of tallest buildings in Oakland, California, to pull 2 recently featured examples. And both of those have "blacklinks" on material which is actually an entry on the list, not simply a fact about an entry as a school is. Staxringold talkcontribs 02:59, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also not sure high schools are inherently notable. They seem to fail Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) which mentions that it includes "educational institutions", barring coverage from 2ndary sources. The line is coverage in secondary sources, which is an article-by-article standard, not an inherent one. Plus the "chains and franchises" note seems to indirectly get at this point.   • Lead image needs alt text, and no period on caption because it's not a complete sentence.
  • "one of only two first overall picks along with Brien Taylor to never play in the major leagues" - some kind of separation is needed for the phrase "along with Brien Taylor", either parentheses, spaced en-dashes, or unspaced em-dashes.

  • "played in the 1986 World Series for the Mets' 1986 championship team." No need to repeat 1986 like this. Perhaps try "second championship team"?
  • Major issue: most of the yearly Baseball-Reference links are redirecting to a page listing the number one overall picks.   • In the second paragraph, some numbers are spelled out while others aren't.
  • There should be a ref after "if a team fails to sign a draft pick from the previous year"; if the two before the comma verify this, move both of them to the end of the sentence.
  • This was actually the one sentence I was very worried about because I knew it to be true (so couldn't remove it) but could not find a source for it. Just did some Googling and found this, however, so fixed (and added to the Philadelphia Phillies list of this kind, the Mariners and Yankees lists doesn't have this sentence).
  • Are any players in the Hall of Fame, win the Rookie of the Year Award, make the All-Star team as a rookie, etc.?
  • No HoFers (though both Gooden and Straw would probably be there if not for drugs), but I was just thinking about adding this stuff when I read your comment below about more interesting image captions.
  • It would be nice if the captions were a bit less repetitious; if they're from a state uncommon in the list, played a different position from what they were drafted as (if that makes sense), anything else
  • I'll on this a bit.

  • You can make the table sortable by making multiple rows for years with multiple picks.
