New Userboxes

I think it is great that you have done so many NCAA userboxes. Is there a template for putting them together? I don't know code very well and was hoping to put a couple together for the WAC. If you could point me in the right direction or even put one together (for Fresno State!) that would be much appriciated. Good work. Intrepidsfsu 10:31, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I can certainly put together a few simple boxes for the WAC. I'll get started on that soon. So that you can help, here is the basic look of an NCAA userbox:
<div style="float: left; border: solid black 1px; margin: 1px;">
{| cellspacing="0" style="width: 238px; background: [major background color];"
| style="width: 45px; height: 45px; background: [minor background color]; text-align: center; font-size: {{{5|{{{id-s|14}}}}}}pt; color: [minor font color];" | '''[School initials]'''
| style="font-size: {{{info-s|8}}}pt; padding: 4pt; line-height: 1.25em; color: [major font color];" | This user is a [Wikilink to school] fan.
|}
</div>
<noinclude>

</noinclude>
Play around with the places marked with braces in your sandbox and see what you can come up with. There are a few things to remember, though. First, you can not use the school's logo anywhere on the userbox. WP's fair-use critera (WP:FUC) does not allow the use of fair-use images anywhere but in articles. Second, play around with the colors. It's frequently the most challenging part to get as close as possible to your schools colors with the fairly limited HTML pallet, but once you do you get a real feeling of accomplishment. Third, feel free to ask for help from anyone in the college foot ball wikiproject (WP:CFB). Mecu and NMajdan are both really good with tables and templates and I've done a lot of these NCAA userboxes. Have fun, and welcome to WikiPedia! z4ns4tsu\talk 15:35, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Thank you! That really helps!Intrepidsfsu 10:38, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Ice Hockey Game Template

Hello Z4ns4tsu! I just wanted to thank you for your work on the Ice Hockey Game Template that I created. I've been working on wikipedia for a while now, and I just recently started working on more projects for creating these sorts of templates and other information boxes and the such. I had to work on this template quite a bit, borrowing features from several different places and slowly learning along the way. I think your edit to remove the need for the empty cells is going to be very useful. I was having a lot of trouble on how I was supposed to do that, and I just wanted to thank you for helping to figure it out and simplify the use of this template. Also, I heard that you are working on another NHL Bracket template. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Once again, Thanks! --Sukh17 TCE 17:55, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Do you know what's up with all the spacing at the top of the template? I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of it. Thanks! --Sukh17 TCE 23:15, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
    • What spacing are you talking about? I don't see anything wrong with it. z4ns4tsu\talk 18:37, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
      • There is a bunch of white space at the top of the template. If you take a look at the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and look at any of the game summaries, you will see a bunch of space in between the title and the game summary. Do you know why that is happening and how it can be fixed? Thanks! --Sukh17 TCE 19:10, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
        • Ah ha! Now I see it. I was looking in the wrong place for the problem, so I completely skipped over it. I'll look into it. z4ns4tsu\talk 20:32, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Help Please

All done: User:Z4ns4tsu/Sandbox4. Took me like 15 minutes and I missed it several times. You were just missing some }} which drove me nuts too. I added an extra </tr></td> so cleanup the extra spaces that would be generated after period 3 as well. Some suggestions: I don't like the borders, maybe remove them? And the date and stadium fields out on the sides like that I don't like either. You can just have them be part of the table caption if you use |+ {{{date}}} at {{{stadium}}} and then you can remove a lot of the double empty cells and colspan items as well, though it will then be above the table (although that is controllable as well if you like). Just put the |+ line after the intro "style" line. I can do it to show you how if you need me to. MECUtalk 17:15, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, the borders were so I could see the cells when I was changing other features earlier. It's how I noticed that the OT's needed to be made optional. The other stuff is all from whoever made the template. I may change more, but I don't know right now. Thanks for your help on that! z4ns4tsu\talk 17:20, 12 April 2007 (UTC) cross-posted to here
Did that fix it? I forgot to look before I tried to fix it. Where is it outputting this extra text if not? MECUtalk 21:05, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
I tried a couple more things, but I haven't a clue really. My suggestion is to ask User talk:Nmajdan and/or the village pump technical helpdesk. Sorry I couldn't solve it this time. MECUtalk 21:55, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
No problem. Thanks for your help. z4ns4tsu\talk 14:32, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Wow. Unfortunately, I'm with Mecu on this one. Its tough. I don't see anything that would cause this issue. The issue is occurring before the start of the template so unless there is some really bad/weird code that I'm not seeing, then I don't know what could be the issue. Definitely ask WP:VPT or you could also try making the template more HTML compliant (such as apostrophes around HTML markup; i.e. {{{1}}}) and see if that affects anything. I'll be keeping an eye on this to see if anybody can resolve. Good luck.↔NMajdantalk 15:57, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Hockey Playoffs

Your hidden note is right, but no need for "at least." Since they reseed, there's no need to retroactively change the appearance of the bracket to match up the outcomes, and in fact, not reshuffling them is a strong visual indicator of that (which is the point of the bracket in the first place). The NHL actually assigns ordinal markers to each series, so they should probably be arranged in that order; see http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=298698 35.10.230.213 20:22, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

We actually discussed that in depth last year. As you can see, I agree with you that the note is unnecessary and that the seeds should not be shuffled. Those of us who thought that were out-voted, however, and the decision was made to re-order the seeds at the end of the first round to reflect how they fed into the second. I still think that it looks bad and is completely wrong, but consensus, not drama, is what helps to make WP what it is. In either case, the bracket should definitely be left as is for now. z4ns4tsu\talk 20:34, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
To me, the straw poll appears to indicate that you won the vote, 6-4, as an unsigned post noted a ways down. 35.10.230.213 22:53, 10 April 2007 (UTC) ADDED: I should note, if I could fiddle with it (and I don't know how), to further emphasize this I would have the QFs fit within the same amount of vertical space as the SFs (that is to say, the top margin of the box containing the 1st seed in the QFs would align with the top margin of the box containing the highest-seeded team advancing to the SFs. Not sure how to do that, nor do I know if you'd agree on that. 35.10.230.213 23:00, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
I second User 35.10.230.213. I noticed today that someone has shifted around the Eastern Conference and was going to ask how you wanted to handle that in your new bracket, but I see a conversation has already started. It should stay 1/8, 2/7, 3/6, 4/5. 76.10.24.245 12:47, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
I appreciate your contributions to this debate on the talk page. I am losing patience with Wikipedia debates (see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_U.S._Supreme_Court_cases#Citations_Standards) and I am glad you are willing to. 76.10.24.245 14:51, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
