Hi Nishidani, I don't see a link on your talk page to email you, so I'll give you a brief response here. [User:Xover] already reverted my edits and I suppose it's just as well. It's a heck of a way for Irv's friends to find out before anything has been published. I'm Irv's brother. My condolences

Hi Paul,

I am so very sorry to hear that Irvin has passed away, as will, I am sure, many others here be. You have my deepest condolences, and please do not hesitate to let me know if there by some chance should be anything I could do. Thank you also for taking the time out, in what I am sure must be a very trying time, to let us know. It is very much appreciated!

As to the article update, I very much feel it should wait until an obituary or news article is published. Quite apart from Wikipedia's policies on the matter, I think, as you point out, that reading it on Wikipedia would be quite a horrid way for someone who knew him to find out that he had died.

The ability to revert death puts me in mind of the common Science Fiction (or is it perhaps Cyberpunk?) trope of virtual existence and to recover from death by simply restoring the person from backup. How beguiling an idea…

Again, my deepest sympathy and condolences to you and yours on this sad event.

I am so sorry to hear of Irv's death. I corresponded with him and he helped me tremendously on a paper. Is there an obituary online or a site to which we can post memorials? Tom Reedy (talk) 17:15, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
