Some notes on Template:Wikify

Hi, I'm from WikiProject Wikify. It is our job to go through all of the articles tagged with {{wikify}} and wikify them. I've noticed you tagged CHFS with a wikify tag, unfortunately this article is already wikified or another tag is more appropriate. The reason you tagged it incorrectly is probably due to the fact that it is not clear what the wikification process involves. Hopefully the following will give you some pointers for the future:
What Wikifying does

Wikifying an article involves 4 main things:

  • Checking to see if an article duplicates existing information and tagging it with {{merge}} if it does.
  • Checking an article for copyright violations and tagged with {{copyvio}} if one is found.
  • Adding section headings and formatting the lead.
  • Wikilinking the article.
What articles need wikification?

The best way to judge which articles need our attention is to look for the following pointers:

  • Is the article divided into sections with appropriate links and section headers?
  • Does the article have a lead paragraph with the title in bold?
  • Does the article make adequate use of wikilinks to allow for easy navigation of the encyclopedia?

If the answer to any of these is no, add {{wikify}}

If the article is obviously a copyright violation (see Wikipedia:Copyright for details or use copyscape to check the article) then tag it with {{copyvio}} - there is no need to tag it for wikification.

What wikification does not do

We do not:

  • Rewrite articles with bad grammar, punctuation or bad English - that is a job for cleanup or copyediting; use {{cleanup}} or {{copyedit}} instead
  • Categorise articles - use {{uncat}} instead
  • Find sources for articles with none - use {{unsourced}} instead.
I hope these pointers are helpful and thank you for taking the time to tag articles for us. If you want to find out more about wikifying please visit our project page or the talk page. You may even want to join the project. Wikification can be great fun, teaches you loads of different things and gives you loads to edit - we are currently dealing with a backlog of 0 tagged articles so your help would be appreciated!

On CHFS, you commented that the article was too short, and needed more references. The wikify tag was not appropriate here as wikification doesn't involve making articles longer or adding references. I have removed the wikify tag and replaced it with more appropriate tags: stub and onesource. Please make sure to only use the wikify tag for what it is meant to be used for, otherwise the wikify backlog gets filled up with articles that don't need wikification. I don't understand. If I am citing my sources properly (as against claiming it to be my idea) then how am I violating copyrights? If the technology is designed by so-and-so, then who better than that company to say what the technology is supposed to do? --Wikishagnik (talk) 22:30, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Devin Kihlers

Hi there, I noticed you recently declined this correctly, but didn't follow the correct template procedures. This is almost certainly an accident. You are suppose to remove the "submitted" template, and replace it with the "declined" template when declining a submission. If you are going to start at reviewing at AFC, I recommend installing the AFC helper gadget here, to help prevent you making mistakes like this in the future. Thanks, Mdann52 (talk) 15:47, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for keeping me posted and I will keep that in mind in the future. -Wikishagnik (talk) 21:58, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Three things

First, thank you for your help with our Wikification drive. Second, would you like to be taken off of the list so you don't receive an invitation in the future? The invitations are delivered with a bot so your notice isn't seen. Finally, I left a comment stating I think it is perfectly fine to count a tag deleted as copyvio. Ryan Vesey 03:30, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Good point, I think I will stay with the Wikification drive and not get into the details why I placed it there. I believe we editors are not allowed to delete the content of talk page (we don't own the talk pages or something like that) so I did not remove that old message. Wikishagnik (talk) 03:42, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
Per WP:OWNTALK you can delete or archive your own talkpage at your discretion :) benzband (talk) 10:19, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation

James Lanza, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.
The article has been assessed as Start-Class, which is recorded on the article's talk page. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you are more than welcome to continue submitting work to Articles for Creation.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!

Wikifying articles

Hi Wikishagnik,

I was going over your wikified articles out of curiosity (as part of the August drive) and couldn't help but notice that at least two of them were not wikified: A.F.Blakemore, which still has insufficient internal links and poor formatting, and Don Aitkin for the same reason. I have only gone over three of the articles you wikified, so there might be other cases.

Please try to add more internal links to these articles, as well as formatting them in accordance with our manual of style. I will provide any assistance necessary if you have questions.

Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 09:40, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Ha! Ha! I have been through this in many past Wikify drives. Nowadays, I don't expand articles or add references because that's not a requirement of the Wikify drive.I only add those Wiki links where its possible or meaningful to do so. A. F. Blakemore does not have much that can be added as Wiki-links, Don Aitkin has a few Wiki links but that don't mean much. If you are suggesting (as I understand it) that the above two articles could be improved a lot then you are right, perhaps they can be. But I don't do that nowadays as that is not the point of the Wikify Drive and I have been told in numerous discussions in past drives that nobody owns articles and that articles develop over long periods of time, blah! blah! I am more into ensuring that the articles meet the minimum requirements, i.e. they have a lead with topic in bold, the article has necessary sections and that it has Wiki links where appropriate'. I do check for copyvio but avoid WP:NOT discussions and add info-box if possible. I feel that both articles do meet these minimum requirements. If you feel that further Wiki links can be added to these articles then please add them, but I don't see any such topics --Wikishagnik (talk) 14:52, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Don Aitkin was clearly insufficiently linked and I have re-added the Wikify tag. I suggest that you read Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikify/News/July 2012/EditorialsRyan Vesey 14:58, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Re-added it as well for A.F.Blakemore, for the same reasons. Ryan Vesey is exactly correct and I second his suggestion to read the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikify/News/July 2012/Editorials page. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 06:48, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
I disagree with the opinion of both editors above. A.F.Blakemore is sufficiently Wikified without getting into desperate measures such as adding Wikilinks for terms like London etc. I Guess the project page should have a section called desperate measures which guide the users to Wikify pages that cannot be reasonable wikified beyond a point. More ominously I can see numerous articles on the project such as Zane Trace High School, Fathi Zghonda, Estate freeze etc. where far less work has been done to Wikify the articles and a lot needs to be done but where the participants have not recieved any warning. I strongly feel this is a case of Wikihounding more bacause of my Asian name in a project that predominantly looks like a Whites only club. If that is the case then please carefully and completely remove me from the project and all related pages. I am really not interested in getting harassed like this. -Wikishagnik (talk) 06:11, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
  • RE: the wikification template left on my talk page. Please review Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikify and Wikipedia:Glossary#Wikify (along with the link provided by Ryan above) to learn the "basics" of how we define wikification. Note that oftentimes, editors neglect to remove cleanup templates following edits made to address article issues. Your work is appreciated. That said, please review the community guidelines and processes in relation to your work with the project and wikification drives. If you continue to work with the Wikiproject by placing notices on editor talk pages where you perceive lack, it is essential that you familiarize yourself with the process and fine tune your understanding a bit. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 21:39, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
    • Actually, I'm a bit curious about that article? What did you feel had to be done with Tremaine Harris? At the time the template was placed, the only issue I saw was the lack of an infobox. Going into the future, we will be deprecating {{Wikify}} as a catch-all and sticking to the individual templates. Ryan Vesey 21:43, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
  • By the time I removed the Wikification tag, even the infobox had been added. According to me the article is a good start class article with almost all necessaey elements. Is there something specific missing in the article? Then please mention that in the edit summary instead of expecting me to go through the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikify and Wikipedia:Glossary#Wikify and second guess what you want. -Wikishagnik (talk) 05:45, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
