I enjoyed reading the Lake Matano article, I found it very interesting and informative. The sections were well labeled, and I knew what to expect from each section. The lead for the article appears to give a great overview of Lake Matano and the characteristics of the lake; however, it doesn’t appear that the lead section has an overview of what is included in the article. The lead doesn’t really give me a sense of the other sections or information contained in the article, just an idea that the article is about a lake in Indonesia. However, I did enjoy reading about the various seasons associated with the lake, it would be nice to expand on this portion of the lead a bit more. Maybe using the seasons discussion to go into a segue to include a brief description of the ecology and surrounding habitat. A short section on habitat might be a good way to briefly mention this topic as a way to inform the reader of the upcoming Flora and Fauna section. The article does not appear to give more weight to one part versus another and nothing in the lead appears to be redundant.
It appears the structure for the article is well organized. Everything is labeled and clear as to what each section contains. However, I do believe the last section, Lake Matano Festival, should either have more information in the section of there should be more cultural sections. This section seems a bit out of place when the rest of the article is about the characteristics of the lake itself. I believe there should be more information on the surrounding culture, I enjoyed reading about the festival. Maybe expand on this or include more activities that people can do at the lake (ie. camping, hiking, maybe triathlons take place at the lake). I believe the Flora and Fauna section could also be expanded upon since there should be a plethora of information regarding this topic. The Microbial and Biochemical activities section was informative and enjoyable to read and has a good length to it. The article doesn’t point any viewpoints out or draw conclusions to try and convince the audience of a particular viewpoint.
I think the author did a good job of staying neutral and not presenting one idea or thought process in a specific way. Even though it is short, the Lake Matano Festival section present the ideas very clearly without presenting the information in a specific way to persuade the reader of any viewpoints. I believe the article presents the information in an informative and positive light to draw attention to the unique beauty and traits of the lake. I especially enjoy reading about the microbial and biochemical activity in the lake. I believe this section shows something unique that the lake has, and it was really interesting to find out that the lake is similar to the ocean in the Archean Eon.
Most statements are connected to a reliable source; however, some of the information is only connected to one source. For example, the microbial and biochemical activity section only has one source per each subsection. It may be good to find additional sources on this topic with more information. The statements in the article appear to be accurately represented in the citation. I would love to hear more about the Lake Matano festival; however, the source “"Lake Matano Festival to be South Sulawesi's Cultural Attraction" does not appear to be working when I select the link. With the exception of the article about the festival, I didn’t see any statements that were not supported by its applicable source.
I thought the article presented the topic well and had some interesting sub sections. Additionally, I liked the figure in the lead section, I liked the interactive portion of being able to select between Indonesia, Sulawesi, or both. I did notice that the figure of the Molecular structure of bacteriochlorophyll could be moved up, it looks a bit out of place. I believe the author could add more to the Lake Matano Festival section of the article or maybe add more cultural or festival items to the discussion. I also believe it may be nice to have a larger section that discusses the flora and fauna of the lake or maybe a separate section that talks about the evolution of the lake and its species. Overall, I thought the article was interesting and has a great start to it.
