Yoruba Wiki help

edit

Hi! I'll be happy to give a helping hand!

Quite a few Naija guys are in Houston (my hometown) because of the oil industry. You can even get great suya! (ah, that topic doesn't yet have a Yoruba wiki article)

Do you want info on any Nigerian organizations in Houston and Dallas (yes, there are Nigerians in Dallas as well)? Maybe they would be interested in helping? WhisperToMe (talk) 19:18, 1 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

WhisperToMe, thanks for your willingness to help. I intend to give more attention to yoruba wiki, this year. Can you link me up? I'll be glad to connect with some of those guyz. You are free to send me a mail if need be. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 19:31, 1 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Here are some organization contacts:

If you have Skype phone credit you may try to contact the Yoruba Omo Oduduwa, Inc., which has its phone number here http://africanvillage.com/directory/organization.html WhisperToMe (talk) 19:43, 1 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much! I will get in touch with the organizations by next week. I will appreciate any further help. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 19:55, 1 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Federal Polytechnic, Ede, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page National Diploma. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Luabella

edit

How many sources use Luabella? I found Bella and Belladonna. --Marvel Hero (talk) 12:32, 3 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

There are several sources that called her Luebella. See huffpost, BBC, Express and star, this, this book, this book by Donard McCormick, this book by David Phelps to mention few. An article on the title, Belladonna already exists. See; Belladonna. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 13:37, 3 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Mayen Ngor Atem

edit

This seems questionably notable and unlikely to solidly satisfying the applicable notability as the best my searches found were only a few links here and there using "Mayen Ngor Atem South Sudan politician" at Books (found nothing), News & browsers & Highbeam (all a few links). SwisterTwister talk 02:19, 3 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

SwisterTwister, he appears to meet WP:GNG and WP:POLITICIAN#1 as Minister for Agriculture and Forestry. Also per WP:POLOUTCOMES, elected and appointed political figures at the national cabinet level are generally regarded as notable. Hope you're enjoying your holiday? Wikigyt@lk to M£ 06:54, 3 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
What about Saba Saba? As the best I found was only this and this (others links were mostly the expected music websites and blogs). I haven't searched any further including at local newspapers as I believe he may not be notable. SwisterTwister talk 03:09, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
SwisterTwister, this source, this one and this seemed promising. this one described him as a significant contributor to Hip hop genre of music in Uganda. He was the subject of "Diamonds in the Rough", an hip hop documentry film. The documentry film was cited in this book authored by Adriana N. Helbig and this book authored by Eric Charry. I think the article is likely to survive WP:AfD. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 05:55, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello

edit

Thank you for the response. While I do understand why Wikipedia would be concerned about conflict of interest in my case, I don’t see why my articles would be taken down. I do work for the company but I wasn’t compensated for posting on Wikipedia. The company would like to put up some general information for anyone who would be interested in reading it and it is in no way meant as advertising. I just got the text and posted it the same as anyone else would. If there is any way for me to post the pages could you please tell me how. If it is purely because of my company email I can create a new account with my personal email and do it from home.

Josko wk (talk) 07:15, 4 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Josko wk, I'm sorry for the slow response but I have no idea of what you're talking about. Which article are you talking about? Wikigyt@lk to M£ 19:37, 4 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
My article for TDE Group, at first I got a warning that there’s a lack of references from someone and a few hours later before I could get a response on what was actually wrong with it someone else came in and deleted it directly.Josko wk (talk) 06:19, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry to hear that your article was deleted but I neither tagged your article for deletion nor deleted your article. Feel free to let me know how I can help. Warm regards. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 06:50, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

The article for Eunice Chiweshe Goldstein now includes Hollywood Black Film Festival and am asking for your help. When you commented on the article, it had not yet been updated since I was away on holiday. Working to expand the article. Warm regards. Wgcw (talk) 16:12, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

The fact that her film received award nominations is not an evidence of notability. See WP:DIRECTOR. How do you think I can help? Wikigyt@lk to M£ 16:42, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Please do not remove comments from other editor's talk page but you are free to do that on your own talk page. Please read WP:TP for how to use talk page. I'll advice you not to give up or be discouraged. Wait for 7 days for a better consensus to be reached. Note that all deletion discussions do not usually result in deletion. Please accept my apology for not being able to help on this article. I'll be glad to help in the future. Warm regards. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 17:09, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Article on Etteh Aro and Partners Consulting Engineers

edit

Hello Wikicology,
I acknowledge that I have conflict of interest in the article on the above subject, which was due to the fact that I was required to put up an article on the subject. I understand the copyright concerns expressed by you and Bazj and I cited the source of the information I provided on the subject. I think it is also necessary the information on any article in Wikipedia is accurate and that is the essence of editing and re-editing. Consider this excerpt from the article: "In early 1970's, the firm awarded scholarships to 51 engineers in Nigeria to obtained masters and doctorate degree in engineering. It also sponsored the engineering training of over 400 Nigerians." Based on my knowledge of the firm, I know this information is wrong. Since the inception of the firm in 1970, it has sponsored more than 100 engineering personnel for overseas studies and it still does that today. That is available on the company's website which I cited but found out it was deleted on the ground of copyright violation. The article was not even up to half-way before it was reedited. I checked an existing Wikipedia article on similar subject from a UK Civil Engineering Consultancy firm with presence in Lagos, Nigeria and followed the pattern to be sure I do not violate the rules.I really want to get the task done. I would want your assistance and advice on how to go about it.
Thank you.

Ugochukwu Daniel Anucha, Wikipedia is not the place to announce your knowledge of the firm. Wikipedia's content is determined by previously published information rather than by the personal beliefs or experiences of its editors. Even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it. The policy says that all material challenged or likely to be challenged, and all quotations, needs a reliable source. See WP:RS for what is considered as reliable source. Copying material without the permission of the copyright holder from sources that are not public domain or compatibly licensed is likely to be a copyright infringement. In fact, inserting text copied with some changes can be a copyright violation if there is substantial linguistic similarity in creative language or sentence structure; this is known as close paraphrasing, which can also raise concerns about plagiarism. Such violations are often frown upon, as copyright violations not only harm Wikipedia's redistributability, but also create legal issues. Since you have a COI, follow the instruction here. Declare your COI status on the article's talk page and on your user page. Finally, do not edit the articles any further. Failure to comply may lead to an indefinite block, meaning you will no longer have the privilege to edit Wikipedia. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 16:15, 6 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode

edit

Hi Wikicology, I hope you're well. I've been working on a page Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode which aims to highlight her contributions to development in Nigeria through her organisations. The article has a few problems which you have pointed out, as it's confined to her listings on her company;'s website and a few media platforms. To an extent i believed it was balanced and thoroughly referenced, and adds a couple more local titles in Channels Television, However you had pointed out that the article as it stands looks to promote her and her NGO but however this is not the case. If you have time to take a look at it and see how you can help improve it or how you can advice on the writing style, there are couple of writeups online that could serve as references , however most of them do not make reference to her in their titles. I will appreciate your help on this. Many thanks. Ebubay01 (talk) 09:02, 7 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ebubay01, I really wish to help on this but she has not been discussed by multiple independent reliable sources. Notability is beyond a passing mention. Since you are willing to write on her organization which is likely to meet WP:ORG, we may consider a redirect to the NGO. Warm regards. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 12:06, 7 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Reverted my edit

edit

You caught me before I reverted myself - I now realise you would have preferred a discussion on whether it meets notability. I've reverted it. Sorry, Matthew Thompson talk to me bro! 07:10, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

No reason to worry. The truth is, article's creator do not have the right to flag certain article they created for speedy deletion per WP:CSD#G7, especially when the article is about a notable topic. For example, the creator of Barrack Obama do not have the right to flag the article for deletion simply because they created it. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 07:20, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
You actually could probably G7 that - I'm not under the understanding that there is a time limit. The G7 requirement is that the request is in good faith and no other users have substantially edited the article (hence why a large, notable article's creator could not request it, as it fails both of those). Nobody has edited the article than auto tagging categories with hotcat. But if you'd prefer community discussion on the suitability, then I suppose AFD is the best place for that. Cheers Matthew Thompson talk to me bro! 07:22, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's quiet easy for me to request its deletion per G7 but I won't do that for a possibly notable topic unless there are major problems that are likely to harm the encyclopedia. In fact, I will never create such a problematic article in the first instance. Wikigyt@lk to M£ 07:30, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
No worries. Best, Matthew Thompson talk to me bro! 07:34, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Account creator granted

edit

After reviewing your request for the "account creator" permission, I have enabled the flag on your account. Keep in mind these things:

  • The account creator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
  • The account creator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the account creator right will result in its removal by an administrator.

If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the account creator right. Happy editing! Biblio (talk) 22:19, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Professor Peller

edit

The article Professor Peller has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Makes a bold claim but fails GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Gbawden (talk) 10:11, 28 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

I think the article was justifiably PRODded in its current state but hope that you can expand it with some of the sources I mentioned on Talk:Professor Peller. I'm always interested in topics that expand Wikipedia's breadth of coverage and hope you can bring this one up to snuff. - Brianhe (talk) 10:25, 28 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
