Your opinion

Greetings Widr! Now, first allow me to say that I try not to ask other Wikipedians for help, but at times I really do need it. A relatively new user, Chevyoncé, and myself have gotten into a bit of a pickle (edit war), to the point where the page we were editing is now unaccessible to non-admin users. I agree that this could have been handled in a better manner, but I must've been caught up in the moment and continued ignoring my issued warning. The user in question displays similar behavior to that of a genre warrior, especially given several of his or her most recent edits: [1], [2], [3], [4]. I would greatly appreciate it if you could take a glance at the edit in question, and our talk page discussion. The source that Chevyoncé is using doesn't seem to be super reliable, and I feel as if the exact quote being used by the user is being misinterpreted and/or misread. I would love your input and it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. Carbrera (talk) 16:29, 11 August 2016 (UTC).

I have blocked this user for obvious sockpuppetry. As the article is currently protected, there isn't much else to do right now. Widr (talk) 16:53, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Please block more carefully

Plip!

A little due diligence would have led you to what I noticed here. If a BLP 3RR exemption is being relied on you should verify it, not just assume it is a BLP vio, like Sro23 did. BethNaught (talk) 20:10, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Hate to admit, but yes, that was a mistake. A trout well deserved. Widr (talk) 20:26, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
This is my fault too because I was too lazy. Widr I'm so so sorry and embarrassed! Sro23 (talk) 20:30, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
Sro23, it was actually Johnsc1277's AIV report on you that caught my attention. Otherwise I wouldn't have noticed. I don't usually watch ANEW. Widr (talk) 20:34, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

No sooner did your block expire than 70.212.1.21 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) went right back at it. This is the long-time, oft-reported "complications from FITB causing death" vandal whose other favorite tricks include hyphenating names of married women who never employed a hyphenate; adding non-notable days of the week; adding unsourced data and/or opinions; changing couples who had children to "she bore him" children; adding "her expecting parents" to birth data, as if paid by the word; etc. He (no contemporary woman would ever write "she bore him") has never engaged fellow editors in any way; he jumps to a new IP seemingly as soon as one is assigned. His other socks have three-month blocks, so I'm requesting something in line. Thanks again. —ATS 🖖 Talk 19:20, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Worth another look

I noticed you blocked user User_100_million today. This same user, based on the same unique pages in their edit history and style of edits is the user already blocked at 142.162.171.173. They're deserving of a longer block than 31 hours. The SPI backlog is over a month long in some cases so I'm definitely not going to bother going there. Air.light (talk) 05:28, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

Protection for a page

Hi @Widr: I request page protection for Björn Kuipers... I'm continually working for that page and adding contents but an unnamed IP is time and again disrupting it by adding tags in an unfinished article... He has even broken the 3 reverts per day rule while edit warring with me... So it would be helpful if you protect the page as that would help the progress in completing the article... Please help! Re: rollback

While it's not 100%, this user seems to be copping to linkspam here. Is there any way to go through their edit history and rollback the dozens of link additions in one fell swoop? And, for that matter, since it isn't blatant vandalism, is there any way to do this with an edit summary where I'd mention that these were good-faith edits? RunnyAmiga (talk) 03:07, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

A good rule of thumb is not to use rollback when you are in doubt. This seems to be a borderline case, but I would recommend manual reverting (or Twinkle) if you need to leave an edit summary. Widr (talk) 04:53, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
That was what I thought but I wanted to make sure. Thank you. RunnyAmiga (talk) 15:40, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

The rollback authority you've just provided to User:Meiloorun is clearly being abused at the (now) heavily researched Lake Travis page. Suggest you tend to it.

Hello Widr,

you reverted my edit in Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism now the second time, this is not acceptable. Reverting is ok by nonsense-edits or wrong edits. The normal way is to use the edit-button. Regards --Serols (talk) 12:12, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

Dear Widr, just want to know would my account be considered for an autopatrol right? Thank you. Mona778 (talk) 05:53, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, not yet. The usual minimum number of created articles for this flag is 25, and you currently only have six. Widr (talk) 06:06, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
No problem, but that's “usual minimum number,” correct? Is there an exception? And if yes, would you let me know when it's time to apply? Thanks Mona778 (talk) 07:41, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
You can of course make a request at WP:PERM any time you wish. Just remember that the right will have no effect on your editing;. it is simply to bypass the new page patrolling process. Widr (talk) 07:54, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Request for page protection

Hi Widr, can you please provide page protection to two pages Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium and Holkar Stadium? An unknown IP is constantly vandalising the page and removing the details of the scheduled matches in these two stadiums! I've undone the edits but he isn't stopping! Newbie questions

Hi Widr, We've been meaning to get a wikipedia entry up on Happy City Initiative for years now and thanks to you and theroadislong, we're learning about what we need to do to get it right. Can you help me out with a question about the Conflict of Interest stuff?

A brilliantly enthusiastic volunteer decided to get us listed on wikipedia yesterday - she's a university grad with no previous connection to Happy City Initiative, although she's half way through a 2 month work experience internship with us at the moment. Assuming she works out how to change the contribution from Happy City Initiative (which she set up as a user for us) to her own personal identity - will that still be OK? If not, I'm worried that because the charity is designed rather like wikipedia to be 'of the people, for the people', we'll continually face threats of deletion from the wikipedia community over COI because when people discover Happy City, they usually get involved and I can't see why anyone would independently decide to put stuff on Wikipedia about an organisation they're not remotely connected to. Feels like Catch22.

I'm also curious about how I can correct any inaccuracies, or fill in gaps to make sure Happy City Initiative isn't mis-representing the charity if COI porevents me (as a founder) to make amends? We can't afford professional help or we'd have had our stuff on wikipedia before Charles Montgomery claimed 'Happy City' for his book (he interviewed us whilst writing it, so it's ironic we couldn't make an entry using that specific phrase, which pre-dates his publication - I've got a bit of a problem with people who claim exclusivity when we're all trying to make change in the same direction). Sorry for the lengthy message - I hope it's not inappropriate here MiddleZee (talk) 13:29, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi. In the block notice she will find the instuctions on how to change her username. Generally, if your charity is notable per Wikipedia standards, someone without COI is likely to eventually write an article about it. This particular version of the article is currently being considered for deletion, but if it survives, you can always use the article's talk page to suggest changes or corrections. Hi Widr. I see you blocked Kamalikachanda 72 hours for personal attacks. I have a feeling they were going to get a softblock anyway per WP:IMPERSONATE based upon this, but I'm not sure how that should be handled now. For protecting Utah Utes football. But per my comment here [7], I'm toast. To me, the ease with which that account is able to continue is an example of how porous the stated guidelines are. That dross like this [8] can stay up for a half hour before anyone realizes it, and that the IP wasn't blocked for another 90 minutes, brings me back to the reasons I mostly closed down my registered account long ago.
