People from out side the state

Why do people from outside the state always think WV's highway system is like California's and want to change it fit CA where they recognize Interstates and US highways as state highways. WE don't. Interstate Highways in West Virginia List of U.S. Highways in West Virginia They are trying to merge unrelated things again and cause confusion to WV, when the confusion is on their part because they are trying to put WV in a mold of another state! --71Demon 16:09, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, in a way it is 'in a mold of another state'. If you look back at what happened, basically during the civil war, the U.S. government let a splinter group steal that piece of Virginia off from the remainder of the state and illegally form a new state without the consent of Virginia. The Union government needed the extra votes in Congress. So actually, West Virginia should be put in the mold of Virginia since that's where it really belongs. But, since the legislature of Virginia later retroactively allowed the split, technically they didn't 'steal' it and it wasn't an 'illegal' formation but it was somewhat slimy. State Highway Signs

I can see the know-nothings have been out in force in my absence.

Image:WV-blank.svg is wrong. I listed it for deletion. You think the person that made this would actually take the time too look at a state highway sheild. They are not rounded at all.

I edited out non-sense in this. Template:West Virginia highways Secondary Roads have a green sheild wiht a round circle. Left no provision for C.R.'s, and tried to imply that the cities streets are maintained by the state.

So I see we're resorting to personal attacks now ("know-nothings"). For your information, Image:WV-blank.svg is made exactly to WVDOT specifications [1], so I don't see what the problem is. As for the comments above, I truly take that as an insult. Lyon Village

I noticed you changes "Lyon Village" to "Lyon Village, Virginia." It is not incorporated or even recognized by the USPS, so this is incorrect. Can you please move this to "Lyon Village, Arlington"? It's a neighborhood of Arlington, and we should follow the same format as for neighborhoods of other cities. We may also want to consider moving the other neighborhood pages (Rosslyn, Ballston, Clarendon, Viriginia Square, Courthouse, etc etc) into the "Neighborhood, City" format. The cities (Suffolk, VA Beach) are actually cities hence the region's nickname, "Seven Cities." I suggest you look to Trinidad, Washington, D.C. or Lincoln Park, Chicago to see what I mean. "Lyon Village, Arlington" or even "Lyon Village, Arlington, Virginia" are more suitable because, as I said, you won't get your mail anywhere if you simply write "Lyon Village." It's a very small area that stretches about 2 miles along route 29 and parallels the Clarendon and Courthouse strips. Thomasmallen 14:23, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

I had already created the category and been working on a WV related ships, and started MD and VA. Each state has ships named for the state, places in the state and people from the state. We need to flesh them out even more. Such as the USS Nimitz is named for Chester C. Nimitz from Texas, so it would fall in the category of ship related to Texas. The USS Huntington is in the WV category of ships related to WV along with others. Ships named for rivers end up in multiple state categories. --71Demon 16:48, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Historic census data

Hi Caponer, you can get them here. It involves wading through large PDFs to find the section you're looking for. I've found the numbers are sometimes hard to read on some of the 19th century pages. For W.Va. figures in the 20th Century, if you're near a library with a range of editions of the West Virginia Blue Book, those have the figures for each town from the most recent census plus one or two preceeding in a simple table, plus all historic population figures for the largest towns. I found that a bit of strategic photocopying from those (say, one table from every other decade or so) was easier than using the Census site. West Virginia National Guard

The entry is a redirect. On the main National Guard page it is a red link. This would be a good project. The Artillary Unit of the WVNG is the oldest unit in the Army. The reason is you have computer programmers and kids that are used to using short hand weither it be text messaging, e@mail, or whatever. They think it is exceptable in the public sector, just as it is in the private section. That creates a problem for future generations. And about to kill another Bot, I uploaded the Press Release Photos that the state gives out for the Senators and Delegates. Atheism is Immune

New NRHP Collaboration Division
