2 WV political categories

Category:Democratic Party (West Virginia) Category:Republican Party (West Virginia)

You want to help me go through the WV politicians and place them on the proper categories? --71Demon 15:08, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

People from out side the state

Why do people from outside the state always think WV's highway system is like California's and want to change it fit CA where they recognize Interstates and US highways as state highways. WE don't. Interstate Highways in West Virginia List of U.S. Highways in West Virginia They are trying to merge unrelated things again and cause confusion to WV, when the confusion is on their part because they are trying to put WV in a mold of another state! --71Demon 16:09, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, in a way it is 'in a mold of another state'. If you look back at what happened, basically during the civil war, the U.S. government let a splinter group steal that piece of Virginia off from the remainder of the state and illegally form a new state without the consent of Virginia. The Union government needed the extra votes in Congress. So actually, West Virginia should be put in the mold of Virginia since that's where it really belongs. But, since the legislature of Virginia later retroactively allowed the split, technically they didn't 'steal' it and it wasn't an 'illegal' formation but it was somewhat slimy. Arlington County, Virginia

Hey Rfc, I wanted to let you know that I have nominated Arlington County, Virginia as a candidate for US Collaboration of the Week. The article is in need of much help and with a little group effort, it could be brought to Featured Article status! I brought this to your attention as I have seen you have contributed to the article in the recent past. Please cast your vote with your signature at the US Collaboration of the Week page under Arlington County, Virginia. --Caponer 04:05, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, I think it's very appropriate for me to contribute to the article. I live there. I think I know a little something about the place. :) Paul Robinson 13:16, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Just needs one more vote to keep it alive -- and then it seems nearly certain that it will be the Collaboration of the Week for July 4. Think there's another vote to be had out there?

Please Help

Thank you for your support of the Article Improvement Drive.

Gary Howell

Somebody is putting this up as an adf for copywrite violation. I wrote the IMDB article, and there is more than the IMDB article in the wiki entry. Can you flame these idiots. --71Demon 15:43, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Whatever happened to the snake handling church in Jolo? Enquiring minds want to know! Erik the Rude 02:02, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Re: Jolo

I've been to Jolo, but not to the churches. I live in rural Appalachia, and I used to enjoy taking drives to out-of-the-way places like Jenkin Jones, W.Va. I live in Logan, W.Va. Where do you live? Erik the Rude 04:13, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

BTW, I can help you out with Appalachian articles. Just gimme a holler. Erik the Rude 04:13, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I lived in D.C. for a year! Lucky you, you can go to the Eastern Market and get some decent fresh killed chickens and cuts of meat. Here it's all watery Wal-Mart stuff. I used to live across from the National Cathedral on Wisc. Ave. Erik the Rude 04:20, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Howdy stranger

Long time, no see. Check out Huntington, West Virginia and see what you think. There is still alot of work to do, but I think it has improved drastically. Anyways, good to see you back. youngamerican (ahoy-hoy) 00:26, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Magisterial District Map

How did you acquire a map of Jefferson County, West Virginia's magisterial districts from the federal government? I would be very interested in acquiring other such maps for West Virginia. I intend on adding the information to all necessary 55 county wiki-entries. Thanks for your help!--Mphamilton 18:03, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Recent page moves to X River (Y River tributary)

Hi Caponer, there's been some discussion recently regarding the inclusion of "tributary" in the parenthetical disambiguations of rivers at the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Rivers. The current guidelines for naming suggest that "tributary" not be included, so you might be interested in making a case on the project's discussion page for your suggested format (I don't think anybody's suggested that format so far...) Thanks for your contributions! Malepheasant 04:22, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Interesting. I wonder if there's a sign. It's not on any maps I have (ADC Washington DC road atlas, for example).--Awiseman 21:22, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that was my other thought, maybe it was an old traffic circle. --Awiseman 21:25, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Hanover Courthouse

I had no idea that this quaint little village was known as Hanover Courthouse. I love visiting and have even been placed in an internship there. It's amazing what one can learn on Wikipedia! State Highway Signs

I can see the know-nothings have been out in force in my absence.

Image:WV-blank.svg is wrong. I listed it for deletion. You think the person that made this would actually take the time too look at a state highway sheild. They are not rounded at all.

I edited out non-sense in this. Template:West Virginia highways Secondary Roads have a green sheild wiht a round circle. Left no provision for C.R.'s, and tried to imply that the cities streets are maintained by the state.

Wiki used to be enjoyable, now it is stressful --71Demon 19:42, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

So I see we're resorting to personal attacks now ("know-nothings"). For your information, Image:WV-blank.svg is made exactly to WVDOT specifications [1], so I don't see what the problem is. As for the comments above, I truly take that as an insult. I did take the time to look at the shields - that's why I used actual specs rather than eyeballing it. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 14:13, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Lyon Village

I noticed you changes "Lyon Village" to "Lyon Village, Virginia." It is not incorporated or even recognized by the USPS, so this is incorrect. Can you please move this to "Lyon Village, Arlington"? It's a neighborhood of Arlington, and we should follow the same format as for neighborhoods of other cities. We may also want to consider moving the other neighborhood pages (Rosslyn, Ballston, Clarendon, Viriginia Square, Courthouse, etc etc) into the "Neighborhood, City" format. Thomasmallen 18:51, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

The cities (Suffolk, VA Beach) are actually cities hence the region's nickname, "Seven Cities." I suggest you look to Trinidad, Washington, D.C. or Lincoln Park, Chicago to see what I mean. "Lyon Village, Arlington" or even "Lyon Village, Arlington, Virginia" are more suitable because, as I said, you won't get your mail anywhere if you simply write "Lyon Village." It's a very small area that stretches about 2 miles along route 29 and parallels the Clarendon and Courthouse strips. Thomasmallen 14:23, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

request from User: Vaoverland

Hi! I have been busy working on Wikipedia: WikiProject Virginia and several other projects with User: No1lakersfan most of this past year, partially in preparation amd supprt of the Jamestown 2007 event. He is now a high school senior hopping to gain admittance to one of Virginia's public university for the Fall 2007 semester. Following advice, he has done maintenance and reference adding work, as well spending time on articles. He is a good collaborator and I believe he would enhance our efforts with WP as an administrator and use the additional tools and powers wisely. Since you know me from our past communications, I wanted to request that you consider entering a vote, hopefully in support, if you agree with my judgment and recommendation at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/No1lakersfan 2.

Category:US State Related Ships

Think you can work on Category:US State Related Ships when you have time, or even make it a project? --71Demon 20:45, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

I had already created the category and been working on a WV related ships, and started MD and VA. Each state has ships named for the state, places in the state and people from the state. We need to flesh them out even more. Such as the USS Nimitz is named for Chester C. Nimitz from Texas, so it would fall in the category of ship related to Texas. The USS Huntington is in the WV category of ships related to WV along with others. Ships named for rivers end up in multiple state categories. --71Demon 16:48, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Historic census data

Hi Caponer, you can get them here. It involves wading through large PDFs to find the section you're looking for. I've found the numbers are sometimes hard to read on some of the 19th century pages. For W.Va. figures in the 20th Century, if you're near a library with a range of editions of the West Virginia Blue Book, those have the figures for each town from the most recent census plus one or two preceeding in a simple table, plus all historic population figures for the largest towns. I found that a bit of strategic photocopying from those (say, one table from every other decade or so) was easier than using the Census site. Hope this helps, and best wishes -- Malepheasant 03:11, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

West Virginia National Guard

The entry is a redirect. On the main National Guard page it is a red link. This would be a good project. The Artillary Unit of the WVNG is the oldest unit in the Army. Should be easy to do this article. Everything including photos are a work of the US Government. Do we have a WV Wiki Project Page? --71Demon 16:26, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

I seem step into contrevesy all the time, even when I think things are super obvious. I think it is important to use the correct spelling in an educational tool. Could you take a look at this please. Thanks --71Demon 13:56, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

The reason is you have computer programmers and kids that are used to using short hand weither it be text messaging, e@mail, or whatever. They think it is exceptable in the public sector, just as it is in the private section. That creates a problem for future generations. And about to kill another Bot, I uploaded the Press Release Photos that the state gives out for the Senators and Delegates. Labled them, and explained the source. --71Demon 16:18, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Historical_persecution_by_atheism#.5B.5BHistorical_persecution_by_atheism.5D.5D I would like to word it right but can not because there is no way to not be offensive I can't think of how. Please help. I was trying to balance the article with other articles like Historical persecution by christianity, Historical persecution by Islam. Please vote to keep the article.

I mean there are articles like Historical persecution by Christians and Ancient historical persecution by Jews and Historical persecution by Muslims but if one is made for atheism it must be because of some petty reason not fairness? Please help.

New NRHP Collaboration Division

Hey, saw you were a participant in the National Register of Historic Places WikiProject. I thought I would let you know that there is a new Collaboration Division up for the project. The goal of the division is to select an article or articles for improvement to Good article standard or higher. There is a simple nomination process, which you can check out on the division subpage, to make sure each candidate for collaboration has enough interested editors. This is a good way to get a lot of articles to a quality status quickly. Please consider participating. More details can be seen at the division subpage. IvoShandor 11:01, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
