HBHS edit

I am an HBHS alumni. I was in the last graduating class before they tore down most of the old buildings (except for the tower and auditorium) because they didn't meet newer earthquake codes. I hadn't written an article for the school because I didn't thing that the school was particularly encyclopedia-worthy except for being old (2nd oldest continuing high school in Orange County?), but it looks like the Wikipedia is going to end up with articles on every single school in the world eventually, no matter how new or how boring they are. The closest that I know to a semi-famous alumni is Clay Evans, who set several state records in swimming and went to both the 1972 and 1976 Olympics on the Canadian Olympic team [1]. (Plus there was the '72 or '73 kneeboard champ at the Huntington Beach Surf Contest, who's name I can't remember.)

Your best best for school articles is to look for a couple of them that are done well and try to copy them. There is also a School Wikiproject.

Speaking of WikiProjects, there is the Southern California WikiProject. You might want to take a look at the project and see if there is anything that interests you. If you have any comments or questions, please contact me. BlankVerse 08:26, 8 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Oh, hey Wes edit

So how about that next meeting for the Student Democracy League? I'd be willing to reprise my role as secretary and do a minute-by-minute report on what everybody says. But seriously. Your website looks awesome. - Hbdragon88 03:10, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I added as much info as I could. The APA section sucks however, and even the MUN section is a little weak. Just how many delegations awards has our school won? The 1906 section looks particularly pleasant since I used Sheri Rosen's article in the June 2004 newspaper issue ("Huntington, a History"). But the 2004 section contains unverified info that I am uncertain about - I know SDL made a ruckus with the marquee, and Chantelle's con article on it mentioned that there were plans in the works, but have they stalled? And I heard there was a fence going up, but I don't talk to anybody, so I don't know anything. - Hbdragon88 05:41, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Wow, awesome picture. Much better vantage point than from the quad (where my two pictures were taken). - Hbdragon88 23:34, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Could you not link indivdiual years? WP:MOSNUM states that only full dates (like January 26, 2006) should be linked. - Hbdragon88 04:41, 27 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well done on the John Farrar overhaul edit

He deserved better than the previous version! DavidFarmbrough 07:56, 3 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'd never heard of the guy. I figured there was enough information there to sort it all out. However, I was disappointed by the amount of plagiarism from the AMG article on the guide. All's well that ends well, though. There's a lot of work that needs to be done on the discography, though. Feel free to contribute years and clarify this confusing ammassment of producer credit, songwriter credit, etc.WesleyPinkham 08:39, 3 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for confirming there was plagiarism - I hadn't realise that, but it did just look like a cut and paste job! As for the name Marvin Welch & Farrar, where do you get the comma from? It isn't on the album cover, which must be definitive, AIUI. DavidFarmbrough 16:16, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, grammar rules would indicate that the last names of three members would be seperated by one comma between the first two and an ampersand between the second two. However, AMG confirms that here. WesleyPinkham 02:25, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download edit

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:52, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Warnings on the talk page edit

Hi Wesley & good to see you helping revert vandalism. But please do not place warnings on the userpage of offenders. Please post those comments on their talk pages.

Mini KISS edit

Hi Wesley, I'm coming from Wikipedia:Welcoming Committee and came across a new user who had his contribution at first speedied and then AfD'd. The topic is a coverband which is popular around the world and has had articles (NPR even) written about them. If you have time can you please vote or comment on what you think at this AfD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mini Kiss. --ElectricEye 20:48, 18 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Warning vandals edit

Sure, the thing is that I saw the edit, reverted it, and apparently got into a race condition, since I got an "Action succeeded" screen. It sometimes happens... but don't worry about it. Keep up the good work. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 19:37, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

...for reverting the extreme POV statements from Indian Idol. The results of Indian Idol season 2 were just announced & are a bit controversial (=angry fans!). Anyway I'm an Indian & do follow the show, so I'll see to it that the article remains sane! Thanks again for all the help.  Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 19:54, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Saying nice things edit

That was a nice thing to say about people who watch big brother and it is not POV. If you don't like it why don't you ban my IP? :P oh, wait, no, you can't it changes all the time, oh well.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.167.200.234 (talkcontribs)

A formal challenge edit

Pinkham, aka Chumpchange, I am challenging you to a duel. I'm hoping you will choose boxing gloves as your weapon of choice, but if you decide to choose pistols, i would not be averse. I hope you have the cajones to take up the gauntlet. Why the hell would u care what someone posts on THEIR F-ING SCHOOL's wikipedia page. What right do you have, living thousands of miles away. Get a life..... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.194.230.16 (talkcontribs)

Unfortunately, you don't own the school, nor do you own its history. It isn't for me to decide what is or is not appropriate to be included on the MHS page. Rather, it is the job of the process. I implore you to come to understanding that the Wikipedia is read by more people than you and your group of friends. Instead, it is one to be utilized by millions of people throughout its existence. Keep in mind that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. It is the job of the editors of this project (yourself included) to provide factual, neutral and relevant material to further the posterity of the project. Please acquaint yourself with the rules which we abide by while editing this project. I hope you can grow to be an asset to the project; happy editing. ••\\/\//esleyPinkha//\/\\•• 00:05, 25 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

reverts edit

For illegal immigration I put the california department of justice as the source along with references for Erik Erikson. For John Birch I moved it from "ultraconservative" to conservative because it is ultra conservative according to who? I change it to NPOV. Many people do not think is ultra conservative while others do. That statement is baised in itself.

Fair use edit

I pointed to the direct policy in WP:UBX that prohibits the use of fair use images. Specifically, the part that I linked to says to "make sure the image license is free." Policy prohibits "templates or user pages to have copyrighted works on them." The logo is copyrighted and not free. Where in the two links did you cite (WP:LOGO doesn't appear to exist) did you use when you reverted my removal of the Dodgers image? Hbdragon88 21:25, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm really not in the mood to deal with this. I'm still learning the ropes around here. Honestly, I was happy to just learn how to make my own userbox. If you're going to watchlist my userpage, then I'd really ask you to not make any further contact with me. Keeping in mind that you shouldn't bite the newcomers, you should've brought the issue up on my talk page, rather than making arbitrary changes. I have other things to worry about right now (APs, going to college..) and so next time you decide to be bold on my userpage, just blank the thing and re-write it as a stub. ••\\/\//esleyPinkha//\/\\•• 08:34, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't watchlist your user page. I occasionally visit some pages, but I rarely use the wachlist. Second, fair use is fair use and isn't really up for "discussion" persay. If it's a copyright violation, it needs to be removed. I honestly don't understand how it's "arbitrary" - it's removing a copyrighted image that doesn't qualify as fair use. Yes, I probably should have brought it up on the talk page, but I thought that directly referencing and linking to the specific WP:UBX policy was more than sufficient. But fine, if you don't care, I can't make you care about fair use. Hbdragon88 04:04, 8 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
We talked about this today, and thank you for accepting my apology. Things have just been...nuts... lately. Thank you for understanding, hope you did well on the test. I've removed the box anyway, it's not like it was important to me. At least I now know how to make a good userbox, yeah? —Preceding unsigned comment added by WesleyPinkham (talkcontribs)

Rember to subst: edit

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Jen Reed edit

I came to the Jen Reed page at the same time as you, I'd imagine, through RC patrol. While the article certainly warrented SD, I hope that you will leave comments on the editor's talk page. The page certainly was a good faith article, in that it contained no personal attacks, etc. Maybe I'm out of line, and this view is completely out of the mainstream, but welcoming our new editors, rather than deleting their work without any notice seems to go against WP:DBN. Thanks for your time. ••\\/\//esleyPinkha//\/\\•• 05:13, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I suppose you're right, I was just lazy, and the page was such obvious vanity that I figured the creator would automatically understand why his page was gone. Everyking 05:15, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Your summary in the deletion log certainly explains why it was deleted. However, the use of WikiSlang may confuse the editor.. Any way you can pick out the editor/(I think he edited via an IP as well..) so that I can make a quick mention of what happened to his page and some other places he might find interesting? ••\\/\//esleyPinkha//\/\\•• 05:19, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK, I left a note of explanation for him. Everyking 05:23, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much. I've recently seen quite a few noobies get their pages deleted and received no form of communication. As a result, they have pre-maturely left the project. Who knows what kind of editors they may've made and it's a shame for them not to have that chance to grow. Thanks for understanding. ••\\/\//esleyPinkha//\/\\•• 05:28, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Warning templates on other's reverts edit

Sorry about that, but I find many editors revert without warning the perp. What leads to me leaving a message on another editor's revert is when we both do the same revert but the other editor hits return a second or two before I do. Since I'm already on the History page, I look to see if a warning was added. I generally try to wait a bit before Saving the warning, but, as I say, a lot of warnings would not be left if I just assumed reverting editors were going to leave one.

Incidentally, I sometimes get edit conflicts on a perp's Talk page from an editor warning on a different instance of vandalism (sometimes even to the same page)-- some of them crank out the garbage edits at an amazing rate. Anyway, sorry if it puzzled you. -- Mwanner | Talk 20:40, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Can't..... hold............ on...........................much........................... edit

Ya I have to tell you you're a cool dude Wes and I would not even take the time to read the rest of this if I were you. I'm going to give up. And I truly appreciate your trying to help me. But listen, I have tried as hard as hell to follow the lead of what I see already posted around and what I read in the help files and I still find hours of work zapped into oblivian. That's disheartening to say the least.

Just skip to the last sentence.

You know what cracks me up? This thing has been on the net for a long time now, most of the people I know use it and think it's extremely helpful and take it as the gospel truth. Still reading? Sorry you shouldn't waste your time man you're too cool a nd don't deserve this. I saw your Myspace site, sent a friend request so I can communicate as my normal self with you there.

Because I, on the other hand, would cite Wiki for extreme ignorance on so many obvious factual truths it's mind boggling. To have had nothing on what an ICP (independent content provider) for Weed™ anywhere on this entire site before I came along, and GarageBand.com was a dead link too, just blows my MIND to smitherines. So I just posted up some basic 411 on it. I have no ties to GarageBand, or do I? So all my work will stick, or will it? 'Cause I was nuetral? Well between just you and me NO I don't own GarageBand.com But I have a vested interest in peeps knowing it exists and a little info because I am in da biz and my clients and future clients utilize it.

Freaking ICP (Insane Clown Possee) certainly gets IT's links posted to it's albums and it's main website no problem... U know why THEY can but I cannot? Me either. And trust me you cannot provide a logical argument despite YOUR obvious intellegence because it will probably be based on Wiki bs.

I don't get it. To me it appears some admin have a bit too much time on their hands and dig their authority trip and just do speedy deletes like a drug addict needs a fix w/out any convo with the person who just spent so damn much time on it.. I should be asleep right now brother trust me this aint fun for me.

Ok now I'm boring myself and I know I'm not getting anywhere. And YOU should not be subjected to this. Wiki will be what it will be. Fair, preceice, complete? Hell no, NEVER in my POV (love that POV crap). At first I had a feeling of having made contributions of excellent content I could be proud of for years to come.

Guess Wiki didn't care OR WORSE, DELIBERATELY KICKED FACTUAL INFORMATION for POV many who came before me trying to convey the fact that an artist cannot even get their tunes into the weed distribution flow without and ICP. So that's all I wanted to do... educate Wiki so the general populous would get that 1/2 of the equation.

Oh and coincidently I AM and ICP for Weed™ so guess having motivation of this sort make me a freaking vandal and spammer according to some admin folks.

I should have been posting up exciting newley discovered sexual reproduction anomolies on the African dung beatle, cause then I'd truly be nuetral, having no business ties to such R&D, a requirement that's certain to be what makes Wiki great cause then one could truly prove I could not possibly give a shit about that topic.

Ok enough. I have probably never typed this much over anything before, this whole Wiki thing just started out very kick ass and it has become more than disapointing. My blood pressure checking machin€ would blow up if I strapped it around my arm right now.

Man -you are cordial and polite and extremely worthy of 5 stars for you customer support but I'm out. Cya.

(will try again after a couple good nights sleep of course, HA!)

Thank you for taking the time to bring all of this up. You should know that you aren't the only one who shares these concerns throughout Wikipedia. It's very difficult to begin editing here at Wikipedia and despite the guideline Be Bold!, often times a bold edit by a user with few or no contributions is seen to have an agenda. The truth is, we can't avoid an agenda - we all have them. It's all about how you present that information (which you've certainly gotten a dose of). One thing that stands out as a vandal-fighter is the addition of a single or related link to multiple articles. This is more than not an indicator that the editor is plugging his own site, and is therefore spam. However, you should know this: Just because you added spam does not make you a spammer and just because some edits have been seen as vandalism does not make you a vandal. There is an uncountable number of editors who've gotten off to a rocky start only to become some of the best editors in the community, and that is, in itself, an inspiration to keep trudging through it. We all have that little nagging thing in our mind that tells us that this is a good thing, despite its flaws and sometimes brash decision makings. I know that GarageBand.com is an article that needed to exist on the Wikipedia and if you hadn't come along and created it, we would be short an article that is quite notable.
It's like you said, "Wiki will be what it will be. Fair, preceice, complete? Hell no, NEVER..." One of our fundamental principles is that Wikipedia is not a paper encyclopedia, and therefore can cover as much knowledge as there is in the world (pretty lofty, huh?). Therefore, Wikipedia will never be complete, as long as there are events occuring in the world and knowledge being accumulated off of the Wikipedia. Someone had to start an article on the Earth or Google or anything else for that matter. That's why we need your contributions! So what if GarageBand.com got hit with a bunch of clean-up tags - it shows people value your additions and want them to be presented in a factual, wikified and educational format.
One of the biggest problems on Wikipedia is communication. Just like any relationship, when someone makes a decision, it often affects many editors. That's why we're communicating right now, so that if nothing else - we can end on the same page. Keep in mind that there are processes in the case of blanket decision making, and knowing these - you can help maintain your interests while still receiving community consensus. For example, if an article is marked for proposed deletion, you can post a rebuttal or request help in cleaning up a valuable article. In the case of GarageBand.com, its clear notability and general availability provide a good springboard for you to start building up some valuable edits to the Wikiproject. I hope that when you return to Wikipedia you can find some useful outlets to apply your interest. Keep in touch, Wes! • Tc 08:03, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
