Bot seems to be a bit too active edit

Hello Werdna, on WP:AN and WP:ANI I notice that suddenly the bot is archiving like 2-3 times a day. The original archiving code has not been changed as far as I can tell. Have you changed Werdnabot? Thanks. (Netscott) 15:19, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I upgraded the version on my server with the one compatible with projectspace pages. Werdna (talk) 09:18, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Archive the village pumps? edit

Is it possible your bot could take over the archiving of the village pumps from Cryptic's bot? See User talk:Cryptic#Crypticbot stopped working. If you have any questions on what to archive or how, let me know. Most of the pumps have sections with no comment after seven days archived to the archives, where they sit for seven days before being deleted, although the news section has a 14 day archive. There was talk of a permanent archive system similar to the admins noticeboard when Cryptic wrote the bot but it never materialised. He wanted to retrieve all the old archives and I don't think he ever got around to it. Anyway, appreciate it if you could let me know. Steve block Talk 23:12, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

That'll be fine. The archive number will need to be manually incremented, though. Unless there is a lack of sections sufficient to justify archiving by month. Werdna (talk) 10:23, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
The pumps would need archiving daily. The archives don't have to be kept, they can simply be archived as well, without being kept, if you see what I mean. I will try and get hold of Cryptic's bot, would that help you? Steve block Talk 19:20, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I can't work out how to contact Cryptic, so that's a no go. That said, granted I'm no expert, but looking at User:Werdnabot/Archiver/Howto and Help:Variable, would it be possible to combine {{CURRENTWEEK}} and {{CURRENTYEAR}} in the target field, to return a value of Week 21, 2024? Would that solve the manual renaming issue? Steve block Talk 20:14, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

A public service announcement edit

Hi there. Just thought I'd let anyone watching this page know that I've started up my own Editor review page. This is a place for anybody with a legitimate complaint to go to leave it there. The page will not be archived, and anyone interested in researching my background is welcome to read it. All comments there will be read in full, and taken seriously. This is part of an effort to increase my accountability on Wikipedia, so that nothing ends up "swept under the rug" due to my archival. Anyone is welcome to respond to, or agree with any comment there, however I'd like to avoid "me too" comments. If one issue becomes significant, I'll create a subpage for that sort of thing. Anybody with a complaint is to be treated with the utmost respect by everyone on the page, including me. Werdna talk criticism 10:55, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Libya edit

Hi,

I've recently added Libya to the list of featured article candidates. Overall the candidature is going well with many of the objections now sorted out. The final concrete objection is with the article's prose. I have been the main contributor to the article and have been looking at it for the previous 9 - 10 months. My eyes no longer see it freshly, so I am not a suitable copy-editor!

To meet the final demand of copy editing, I have been advised to ask different people to edit parts of the article.

I would really love to get this article featured as you can probably see from the page's history! I've worked very hard on it and I see this as possibly being the final hurdle.

You can see the prose objections, mostly raised by Sandy, on the candidature page. If you have the time, please choose a section (Politics, Religion, Culture etc.) and copyedit, perfect, ace it! I would be very grateful with any help I can get.

Thanks a lot,

Werdnabot edit

I was wondering, do you think you could set up Werdnabot to archive the reference desks in the format that Crypticbot used to? Every day, Crypticbot used to move the weekold section to an archive page and create a new section for the new day. For example, on January 10, 2007, Crypticbot would have moved the January 3rd section of the Mathematics Reference Desk to Wikipedia:Reference desk archive/Mathematics/January 2007 and would have created a new level one header: =January 10= at the reference desk page. It would have done it for all reference desks. What do you think? —Mets501 (talk) 17:16, 21 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Archiving subheadings edit

Take note of this archival on WP:ANI, where the heading Concerns over pending deletion vote of Encyclopedia Dramatica was separated from the subheading Emails. On a page like that, if a topic is broken apart due to it being divided into headings and subheadings, the value of the archive will go down as topics get torn apart. Is there a way to fix this? Werdnabot on ANI edit

Hi, sorry to bug you during your break. Werdnabot is archiving WP:ANI in a very odd way. It is archiving sections 2 or 3 days old but missing more than half the page that is 10-15 days old and even older. ANI is currently at 402KB and archive121, which is werdnabot's target, is 614 kb. I would be happy to do anything that needs doing, if I knew how it worked. (For example, does the archive target need to be manually updated? And can I manually archive the older sections without the bot getting confused?) I can't code bots but I will help any other way that I can. Thatcher131 (talk) 20:59, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

If need be (as in, if Werdna isn't around to answer, as indicated in the note at the top of this page), I can put EssjayBot II on it (it'll need a little code tweaking to keep from having to hand-increment the current archive, but that can be done). Additionally, I noticed that some sections where a

(See [1], which is actually part of an archived discussion.) Essjay (Talk) 04:51, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
He e-mailed me and told me it wouldn't confuse the bot to manually archive some sections, and to go ahead and increment the target number. I don't mind doing it but if you want to run your bot instead that's fine. One difference between crypticbot and werdnabot is that werdnabot archives talk where the last timestamp is >2 days old, while crypticbot would take whatever was needed to get the page below 256K. Since we seem to have an unusually wordy bunch of problems lately, the page is hovering between 300-400K. I don't know which behavior would be better. Werdnabot on project pages? edit

I'm wondering if it's possible to configure your archival bot to work on project pages: specifically I'm thinking of WP:WSS/D, in the same manner as with talk pages (an age threshold per section), and ideally also at WP:SFD (in this case it'd have to be done on a "marked as closed" basis, though). Thanks for any illumination you're able to shed. Alai 06:27, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
