Would you mind providing some input here [1]? Torturous Devastating Cudgel 17:36, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

No sarcasm, But I've got to give you a barnstar for your gentlemanliness on soliciting me into this discussion.

Now, as to your point: I can see the point of keeping the item in a certain article. And I was impressed by how you laid out your points on the Talk page of the RG controvereis.

However, that said, only a number of people are wiki-universalists (keeping a keen eye on all pertinent articles). Most of the lay public are just stumbling across things in one particular article. So, while I concede that there is overlap, this is not bad, these points of overlap/ repetition / what have you are not in and of themselves out of line. Just imagine where certain points (e.g., an unflattering point re something Bill did or some part of the B-H relationship) may appear in several articles:

  • Bill-Hillary relations
  • Hillary Clinton article itself
  • Hillary 2000 candidacy
  • Hillary 2008 candidacy
  • Hillary controversies

I hope that this addresses your concerns. Regards, Dogru144 04:08, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for pinging me; after the Hugo Chávez whitewash debacle, POV forks are a real hotpoint for me (you didn't know that). I've also learned over the years that politicians' articles are an enormous timesink, even more so with elections approaching; good for you for being able to give them sustained attention! I've given my opinion and unwatched, so feel free to ping my talk page in the future if you need input from "either side of the aisle". SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:28, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism (WP:Blanking) of Controversies of Rudy Giuliani

There is a procedure for deletion of articles (Afd). You are not following it.

Blanking a page is vandalism.

Please desist from vandalizing the Controversies page. I have addressed my perspective on the Talk page. Thanks, Dogru144 20:35, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Re: Controversies pages

FYI, Controversies of Rudy Giuliani has now been dismantled, with its legitimate contents disbursed among the appropriate Giuliani articles and its unworthy contents junked. See Talk:Controversies of Rudy Giuliani for more. This is pertinent to your concern that it was unfair that Republican candidates had such articles and Hillary Clinton did not. I hope that someone dismantles the Mike_Huckabee#Controversy section as well. Wasted Time R 18:46, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Someone who doesn't know that Sandinista was not published in 1980 but 1981. And therefore that the "rival" of The River was London Calling. If you can talk about "rivalry" since Springsteen was a devoted fan of The Clash. [12:09, 14 November 2007 217.195.19.81]

Giuliani AfD

What's up with Dogru voting twice? 1st 2nd I was about strike his first vote, but then thought perhaps I should ask him to strike it himself, so I left him this message. Unfortunately, Dogru is busy in real life, and hasn't been on wikipedia since 11.12.07, so s/he hasn't gotten my message. I guess I'm wonder what, if anything, should be done about the double vote. Seems to me like one of the votes ought to be retracted or redacted (probably the first) and if Dogru doesn't do it (either because he's absent or simply doesn't care to) then someone else should. At the same time, it's perhaps not the best ettique, and anyways one would hope that the closing admin won't be so hasty as miss where Dogru says, "I should say that I voted already above." What do you think? Yilloslime (t) 16:43, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

If I may - I saw that too and had added a note to that effect on the AfD page on Sunday night, and see that Crockspot went ahead today and struck the second vote, leaving the comment which I think is fine. I too didn't want to do it initially, to give Dogru a chance to do it him/herself, but it's been a few days and shouldn't be left there. If Dogru comes back and wants to switch which one gets struck, that's fine. (I doubt "strong" makes that much difference anyway, even though I used it myself.) Nancy Reagan approval ratings

First off, hello again. Here's my thoughts: the sentence is worded very oddly and I'm confused reading it, mainly the "she had both more people approving and disapproving of her than Rosalynn Carter" part; it just doesn't make sense. According to the cite (here):

  • Carter's approval was 46% when her husband left office in 1980
  • Reagan's was 56% in 1989
  • Bush's was 71% in 1993
  • Clinton's was 47% in 2001

And quoting directly from the source: "By the time her husband left office, more than half of Americans had a favorable opinion of outgoing First Lady Nancy Reagan. Fewer than one in five had a negative opinion of her. Opinion of her grew more positive as more Americans learned about her during the course of her husband’s presidency... While views of Mrs. Reagan were never as positive as those of her successor, Barbara Bush (who was viewed favorably by 81 percent of voters in early 1992), they were more favorable than views of Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rosalyn Carter as their husbands left office."

Therefore, my edit to the page seems to be correct, as we are judging by polls taken when the FL's husband's left office. Now of course, Nancy Reagan's poll numbers were the lowest of any FL's during the first years of her husband's presidency and didn't raise much until later, something already covered in the article. If I'm missing something, please let me know and we can discuss a way to reword the phrase. And really I'm only caring so much because we're in an FAC. Thanksa lot, Happyme22 (talk) 02:02, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:AnInvitationToTheWhiteHouse.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:AnInvitationToTheWhiteHouse.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --OrphanBot (talk) 15:05, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Notability of ProgressivePunch

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on ProgressivePunch, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because ProgressivePunch seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting ProgressivePunch, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 19:00, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi,
The FAC for Ulysses (poem) has closed. I made the silly assumption that I'd be able to look up Bartlett's online somehow, but I can't. Would you be able to add a referenced sentence to the article (at the start of "Cultural legacy", I'd say) that mentions the coverage in Bartlett's? –Outriggr § 04:05, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

writing in that type of format leaves room for sensationalism which contributes to an overall biased in the article. What I did do in the Outfoxed article was just list what went on and not my own words in it.RYNORT 18:00, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

A WikiProject or task force for "U.S. presidential elections"

Hi, As I see there are several editors who works on the articles about "U.S. presidential elections". I wanted to join you but I couldn't find any wikiproject or task force relates to this issue. I propose making at least a task force in Wikipedia:WikiProject United States.--Seyyed(t-c) 10:26, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Please answer to this comment here--Seyyed(t-c) 10:28, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
I think this needs some serious consideration. Some of these articles are so biased it would take a wikiproject to balance them out so that maybe they could be good or featured. You have a knack for helping these articles comply with NPOV. I just looked over Barack Obama presidential campaign, 2008, this article is really biased and needs some work. The first article I wrote Joe Biden presidential campaign, 2008 is really bad because I have neglected it. Other articles such as those about past presidential candidates like Ross Perot can be improved significantly through a wikiproject. This is why I think United States election articles really do need to be organized into a wikiproject.--STX 23:47, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:ILeftMyHeartInSanFrancisco.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ILeftMyHeartInSanFrancisco.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Orphaned non-free media (Image:TonyBennettUnplugged.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:TonyBennettUnplugged.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 20:19, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:AllmansDreamsCover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:AllmansDreamsCover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:09, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Mike Gravel Filibuster

You've made a lot of changes to the portion of the Filibuster on the Mike Gravel page regarding his filibuster. This is fine and good, but your sources with the New York times require members to be paying subscribers of the Times online section. Reference number 18 is a good example of this. Isn't this outside the realm of Wikipedia, the "free" encyclopedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.19.55.115 (talk) 05:35, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Just to say thank you, not so much for accepting St Mary's Church, Acton as a GA, for which I am of course grateful, but more for the way in which you guided me through the process. Fair use rationale for Image:ScottMuni.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:ScottMuni.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Magic Tour (Bruce Springsteen)

Reading your history, I do realise that you are not one to vandalize articles at all and are in fact quite an upstanding wikipedia user, but I happened to notice some untrue statements made in "The Show" section of Bruce Springsteen's Magic Tour. You put information such as the fact that Clarence Clemons sits down during the course of the show, which is completely false. I also noticed that you have no source cited for the specific area of the section I am speaking of.

Sorry to inform you of this, keep up the great work.

Nancy Reagan

Hey the debate has picked up again at Talk:Nancy Reagan#Reporting on criticisms. I think the IP is going a bit too far and giving too much undue weight to many of the situations he/she has presented because they are getting off the subject of Nancy Reagan herself. Feel free to comment if you want to. Thanks, Happyme22 (talk) 19:33, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Please see recent comments and evidence of the multiple Non NPOV points that I have identiified in this article. Thanks, please comment. 207.237.228.83 (talk) 06:54, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Apparently the IP's going ahead with the medcab request. I've left very long comments on the article talk page (located here) and the medcab request (here). Please join in if you wish. Thanks, Happyme22 (talk) 05:44, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

I too am quite confused by just about everything the IP has done. See the talk page for his latest comments. I anticipate that my name will be smeared across the "mediation request" which he is apparently working on frivilously. He seems to be taking quite a while and even says he is going to review the entire FAC and article history! I'm not going to allow the article to be delisted, and I hope if notions such as that are brought up, you will back me up. Thanks Wasted - you've been a huge help and have greatly contributed. I have a feeling there's only going to be a few more days of this. Happyme22 (talk) 05:00, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Politician vs. Senator

I feel the Infobox for Hillary Clinton should show her profession as "Senator", rather than "Politician".[6] She is a politician, but her job is being a United States Senator. If you were an executive at a corporation, would you want to be described merely as an "employee" of that corporation? --SMP0328. (talk) 02:09, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of HillRaisers

An editor has nominated HillRaisers, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/HillRaisers and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:59, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Hilary Clinton. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Iron Maiden tour history

I know you do a look of concert tour work. Right now I'm bogged down in a lot of work on Michael Jackson, but thought you should know that the Maiden tour pages are the worst. Using slang, POV, non-encyclopaedic speech (speaking in the first person), almost all of it has been copy-pasted from [8]....to be honest they're articles worth having but at present offering nothing useful. (The Elfoid (talk) 16:37, 14 February 2008 (UTC))

Only asked since you seem to be a bit of a 'tour page guy' on Wikipedia. And because I avoid those pages, since I know I'd be too POV. Cheers anyway. (The Elfoid (talk) 17:17, 15 February 2008 (UTC))

I know what you mean. If a normal user (read: not a "teacher's pet" bot) were tagging this many articles for deletion for a "violation" of some subsection of an obscure policy, that user would be blocked for disruption. But because this is BCB, he's allowed to overwhelm people with his tagging. It's a bit ludicrous, in my opinion. Bellwether BC 14:33, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks For POW / MIA Comments on McCain Site

Your idea for a wikipedia article on the history of the Vietnam POW / MIA's is right on target. I really appreciate your posting the suggestion!

I have to look at my own time committments (not sure yet) but if I start such an article I'll let you know in case you want to comment (no pressure, but just in case).

Also, if you ever start an article on this topic-- please let me know-- I'd be happy to contribute what I can, time permitting (using citations, not personal experiences-- in line with wiki writing policies).

I realize that personal experiences are not appropriate for Wikipedia articles-- but by concidence my adopted Aunt (not my real Aunt but a close family friend) was Evelyn Grubb-- one of the original founders of the National League of Familes-- and one of it's early Presidents. As a boy I was present at the opening of one of the NLOF's first small offices in Hampton Virgina and my mother used to take us there on weekends to do volunteer work. Later I lived in the Washington area with my family while Evelyn Grubb served as President and Evie was at our house / with us frequently (my father was her husbands squadron commander before he was sent to Vietnam).

Evelynn Grubb wrote an autobiography that is due to be published soon-- perhaps this would provide good source material for such a wiki article.

Best,

GA review of United States Senate election in New York, 2000

I looked over the article again to confirm my original finding. I found a few more lines I think need sources:

In the Legacy section (last section): Clinton's victory would establish her as an effective campaigner and an electoral force on her own, able to capture Republican and independent votes and overcome her polarizing image.

Giuliani's performance in the aftermath of September 11 earned him many accolades and resurrected his political prospects.

In Analysis of margin: Lazio's bid was obviously handicapped by the weak performance of George W. Bush in New York in the 2000 election, but it is also clear Hillary Clinton had made substantial inroads in upstate New York prior to Lazio's entry into the race. (Obviously is listed as word to avoid)

I completely agree these lines, but I would like to see them sourced. I'll give a full write up on the talk page. Thanks for such a comprehensive article.User:calbear22 (talk) 18:00, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Amended.User:calbear22 (talk) 19:35, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
I approved this article a few days ago but have since become more familiar with the GA review process. I now know that the article does not meet Good Article Status. I have been working on the article to ensure the it does not get delisted, but with one editor questioning my judgement, it is likely this article will come under scrutiny soon. I urge you to try and help me keep it at GA. I put a lot of work into the beginning of the article. The article needs to have some more work on NPOV. There are many instances where "facts do not speak for themselves" and there are "words to avoid." The article might need another proof read too. Please see the NPOV guidelines and work with me to keep the articles rating at GA. ThanksUser:calbear22 (talk) 09:50, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Listing the article is more a formality to approving an article that I had just forgotten to do. I'll leave you to do as you wish with the article. You can revert back some of the changes if you like or ask me why I made them. Sadly, "life" in articles is introducing a viewpoint. The viewpoint you introduced is correct and widely accepted, but even consensus cannot overrule NPOV, as it states in the introduction of NPOV section. NPOV is also a core pillar of wikipedia policy. When you talk about life, the biggest change I made was the title of a section to "a tumultuous 4 weeks" as because such a statement does not meet the let fact speak for themselves standard. Calling events critical or important, or in the case of the original introduction, historic, does not let the facts speak for themselves. Other changes address Wikipedia:Words to avoid which is more or less the words in there, it has to go. I really didn't want to make these changes but made them because I didn't want to you to be disappointed when the article gets delisted. As of now, I give you free reign to address these issues. You are always welcome to consult me with questions. Best of luck.User:calbear22 (talk) 17:13, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Your behavior towards me and others on the Hillary Clinton page violates wikipedia rules and policies

This is a warning regarding your violations of wikipedia policies and rules on the Hillary Clinton page.
WastedTime and Bobblehead have refused to engage in discussion and have simply asserted their will multiple times (by reverting changes (on Jan 18, 19, Feb. 1, 7, 18) I made – they refused to respond to my discussion attempts (made on Jan 6 and Jan 19) regarding reporting Iowa Democratic Caucus results to two decimal points). This and other actions of theirs have violated the law and spirit of wikipedia policies and rules, including “gaming the system”, “"Abuse of process “, “Attempting to force an untoward interpretation of policy, or impose one's own novel view of "standards to apply" rather than those of the community.” (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Gaming_the_system), and “clearly fail[ed] to respect "consensus" on this issue, given that no disagreements were expressed in the discussions on this issue I had initiated on Jan 6 and Jan 19 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Consensus. Additionally, both Bobblehead and WastedTime on Feb. 18 appear to have acted in concert so that neither one would be in violation of the “three revert” rule – which would also be a violation of the spirit of this rule. Yes, I broke the 3 reverts rule, unknowingly. In contrast, WastedTime and Bobblehead were aware of the rule and violated the spirit of it, as well as engaging in violation of the law and spirit of other rules and policies. It was very disingenuous of Bobblehead to have me blocked for violating the “three-revert” rule (and this prevented me from participating in the discussion they initiated on Feb. 18), when both Bobblehead and WastedTime themselves are guilty of violating it and other rules. Greater documentation related to this issue is on my Talk page. Zzalzzal (talk) 21:38, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

McCain was born on August 29, 1936, at the Coco Solo Air Base in the then-American-controlled Panama Canal Zone[2] to Navy officer John S. "Jack" McCain, Jr. (1911–1981) and Roberta (Wright) McCain (b. 1912).

There is also a runway there known as France Field. My son, Lee, was born at Coco Solo Hospital as well.
