Disambiguation pages

edit

Please read WP:DAB. In particular, read about primary topics and the need (or lack of it) for two-dab pages. In other words, please stop automatically turning perfectly good redirects to a primary topic into a disambiguation page just because some obscure person with the same name also exists, or just to drive traffic to a new stub that you created. It is unnecessary and unhelpful to the majority of Wikipedia users who are trying to a find a person with that name. Where there is a potential for a minority of searchers to e4nd up redirected to the wrong page, add a hatnote to the page sending notifying them where they might want to be. Only in cases where there is not a single article where the majority of searchers are likely to want to be should there be a disambiguation page without a disambiguated title. Where there are multiple (certainly more than two, generally more than three) articles potentially with the same title, a page of the form Name (disambiguation) (a good example with a primary topic) can be created as a disambiguation page. I note that in many cases this already exists and you are renaming it. This is very unhelpful and messy to reverse, please think very carefully. Lithopsian (talk) 18:58, 3 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Cut'n'paste moves

edit

The edits you made at Swati Singh and Swati Singh (disambiguation) to swap the contents of the articles, giving the appearance that one has been renamed to the other, are known as a cut'n'paste move. This is strongly discouraged. The history of edits attached to the original article now shows as a single edit on the new article performed by you, which is misleading, non-transparent, and unfair to the original authors. It also risks losing talk pages and sub-pages of the article. The attribution history can be transferred, but it requires admin intervention and is not a simple process. In short, don't do it. Instead, articles should be moved properly. If you have sufficient user rights, there is a dropdown More near the View History tab on each page. The dropdown has an entry called Move which allows you to rename a page, subject to certain safety checks. In some cases, the new page name already exists and has non-trivial history, in which case you won't be able to perform the move and will have to request an admin do it for you at WP:RM. Such page moves may still be reverted, or the technical move request may be converted to a move discussion. Lithopsian (talk) 14:25, 4 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sockpuppetry

edit

While I realize you probably don't care given your past socking history, please realize that YOU, the person behind the account, are blocked. Creating further accounts is called sock puppetry and isn't permitted on Wikipedia. As your accounts are found, they get blocked and your edits will be reverted. You need to address the reason for your block ON YOUR INITIAL ACCOUNT. Continuing to sock just makes it less and less likely you'll be unblocked. Ravensfire (talk) 03:13, 9 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
