Notable people edit

As you are adding notable people to articles and I keep fixing them...

An example...In Wald, Bern, I made this edit.
Among the changes are:

  • The links only go on the name, not the entire entry.
  • Add them as a list by adding "*" in front of each entry.
  • Converting [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Guggisberg - Adrian Guggisberg] ---> {{ill|de|Adrian Guggisberg}}
  • (*1958) is the German way of a birth date, English is (1958).

Biography template edit

I was wondering where you got the biography template you used for the box in the J. C. H. Grabill article. I couldn't find it. Senor Cuete (talk) 16:14, 16 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve Joseph Balmer edit

Hello, Von Bern,

Thank you for creating Joseph Balmer.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This article suffers from two issues. First, it is not written in a neutral manner--it is fawning over the subject in a way that would not even be justified if we had several top-quality sources to cite that treated him with the same level of reverence. This brings us to the second issue, which is the sources. I am very skeptical of the reliability of "The English Westerners' Society – Custer Association of Great Britain". Other sources are clearly primary, such as Balmer's correspondence in the Stanley Vestal papers and his manuscripts. Many of the remaining sources are inaccessible to me at this time; this does not mean that they are unreliable or inadmissable, but given the quality concerns that I have already raised, I am less than confident that these are sufficiently reliable.

I don't doubt that Balmer was a notable figure, but I think that the article could benefit from stronger sources, and that we may be missing important perspectives (e.g. from 21st century anthropologists and historians, or from Native American publications). I am highly doubtful that we should be referring to someone who never set foot onto the American content or ever personally encountered a Native American as a legendary expert on the subject in Wikipedia's voice.

Finally, given the neutrality issues noted above and because you have noted that you have engaged in correspondence with Josef J. Balmer (whom I'm assuming is associated with Balmer's estate?) in the article citations, please disclose any conflict of interest that you may have with the subject.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Rosguill}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

thank you Rosguill appreciate your comments. If you feel that the page on Joseph Balmer is unjustified please feel free to take it down. I have cited all sources available - Joseph Balmer was an Indianistic expert whose expertise on Native Americana and Western Americana history has been cited and acknowledged in a number of publications that I all cited as far as accessible to me. I am not quite sure of the meaning of conflict of interest, I have no connection to Joseph Balmer, nor to his legal heirs. I did seek the latter out, notably Josef (Sepp) Balmer, the subject's surviving son to interview him and to obtain vital details on his father. I am USA based, Joseph Balmer was a Swiss. Joseph Balmer is particularly notable for his vast expertise on the subject matter and having been utilized as a purveyor of source information by notable scholars and authors such as Stanley Vestal, George E. Hyde, Mari Sandoz and Kingsley M. Bray (all by the way have their own wikipedia pages). There is also a German language Wikipedia page on Joseph Balmer as he not only contributed to his English speaking peers, but also researchers and authors in the German speaking world. Thank you for letting me know best regards Von Bern To Von Bern Your Page on Joseph Balmer is most justified and appreciated. I am researching George E. Hyde you had correspondence with Balmer. As I understand it Balmer's correspondence from Hyde are in the possession of Kingsley Bray who I am trying to contact to get permission to look at the correspondence. Were you able to contact Joef Balmer for an interview. I would also be most interested in interviewing him on what he might know of the relationship of his father and George Hyde. Please let me know if you have contact information available. James Boorn 2020James Boorn 2020 (talk) 00:34, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for March 16 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of Native American actors, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lakota. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

what is wrong entering the date of death ? what is "not constructive" about that ? - current date of death stated as "after 1901" certainly is not constructive. Please reinstate date of death as entered Von Bern (talk) 22:26, 25 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sumanuil, OK, I give up, someone from half a world away of the United States seemingly is more competent than a bonafide, credited historian from the United States. Please do as you wish. Von Bern (talk) 19:32, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
