Welcome! edit

Hello, VkumarNITpy, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was National Institute of Technology, Puducherry, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! May 2015 edit

Hello, I'm Non-dropframe. I noticed that you recently removed some content from National Institute of Technology, Puducherry without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. --Non-Dropframe talk 22:41, 28 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to National Institute of Technology, Puducherry, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. The tags are appropriate, because it doesn't read neutral, you're clearly connected to the institution, and it does need inline citations. Please do not remove these tags. Conflict of interest in Wikipedia edit

Hi VkumarNITpy. I work on conflict of interest issues here in Wikipedia.

Although you were provided with formal notice of our COI guideline above, you have been extensively editing the article about National Institute of Technology, Puducherry. I am providing you with formal notice of our conflict of interest guideline, and will have some comments and questions for you below.

Hello, VkumarNITpy. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.

Comments/questions edit

Wikipedia highly values contributions by subject matter experts; at the same time, experts have some special challenges when they first start editing here. Please see the essay with advice for experts, WP:EXPERTS, which discusses both sides of that coin.

One of the challenges is related to conflicts of interest (COI). Since you are affiliated with an academic institution, I reckon you are familiar with the concept of "conflict of interest", but it has some interesting twists here in Wikipedia, since we allow editors to be anonymous here, and editors directly publish their edits, with no mediation (no publisher, no peer review - just direct publication) Please do read WP:COI, especially the section on Writing about yourself and your work.

Wikipedia is a scholarly project, and like all scholarly endeavors, managing COI is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review.

Disclosure first: you have already kind of disclosed your relationship to National Institute of Technology, Puducherry in your username. To make that disclosure complete, we need two things. The first is to make the disclosure on your User page, (here: User:VkumarNITpy). While I am not asking you to disclose your identity (anonymity is strictly protecting by out WP:OUTING policy), you should disclose the relationship (like: "I work for National Institute of Technology, Puducherry ") Second, you should make sure that you disclose your COI on the Talk pages of articles you edit, where the COI is present. An easy way to do this, is to simply include a link to the COI disclosure on your User page in your signature, which you can customize in the preferences for your account. See User:Alexbrn for an example of a disclosure, and his signature on his Talk page for an example of what it looks like. We can also handle this by using the "Connected contributor" tag in the headers of the talk page. The third alternative is to simply note your COI when you make comments on Talk pages. In any case, would you please add the disclosure to your User page?

Peer review step. What we ask editors with a COI to do, is offer suggestions on the Talk page for others to review instead of directly editing the article. Going forward, please do not directly edit articles where you have a COI, but rather offer suggestions at the article's Talk page. You can do that easily - and provide notice to the community of your request - by using the "edit request" function as described in the conflict of interest guideline. There is a section at the bottom of the mustard-colored box at the top of the Talk page - there is a link at "click here" in that section. If you click that, the Wikipedia software will automatically format a section in which you can make your request. Would you please do that going forward?

Please let me know if you are willing to do those things. I am happy to talk, if you have any questions or want to discuss anything, you can write them below. I will see them, as I am "watching" this page. Best regards, Jytdog (talk) 02:42, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

May 2015 edit

Please stop continuing to remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to National Institute of Technology, Puducherry, without resolving the problem that the template refers to. This may be considered disruptive editing. Further edits of this type may result in your account being blocked from editing. Until you disclose your affiliation with this organisation, the COI tag should stay. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:54, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

yes, please do not remove the COI tag, Vkumar. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 16:02, 29 May 2015 (UTC) (added essential and forgotten "not" Jytdog (talk) 16:31, 29 May 2015 (UTC))Reply
@Jytdog: I assume you mean "please do not", not "please do"? Joseph2302 (talk) 16:09, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
yes, fixed that. sorry.Jytdog (talk) 16:31, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of NIT Puducherry edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on NIT Puducherry requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. --Finngall talk 20:56, 25 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for December 28 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited NIT Puducherry, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mahe.   Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Bharat Ratna, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 19:30, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from uploading non-free images from Wikipedia, rather than Wikimedia commons, such as you did at Bharat Ratna. It is considered vandalism. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 19:30, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

The images under question are non-free but fair use ones such as File:K._Kamaraj.jpg and are used in other articles in Wikipedia. Should the same not be used in this article: Bharat Ratna?-Vkumar1216 (talk) 17:39, 10 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source/license for File:Richard Henderson.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Richard Henderson.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Regarding National Institute of Technology, Puducherry edit

National Institute of Technology, Puducherry has to be moved to National Institute of Technology Puducherry because the official name of the institute is National Institute of Technology Puducherry and not National Institute of Technology, Puducherry according the official website of the institute and also in nirf rankings by MHRD, Govt. of India. I have also requested a move in the talk page of the article. -- Iambatman2022 (talk) 05:26, 9 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
