Death of Arnold Walker edit

I've have created and have been editing the page Death of Arnold Walker, which concerns a highly controversial police shooting incident in Australia in 2019. Another user has been adding material that slanders the police officer involved and attacks a major newspaper she/he believes is not covering the matter fairly. I've reverted her/his changes and requested she/he discusses the specifics on the talk page, to no avail. VisitingSamG (talk) 10:28, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have referred this to the BLP noticeboard as the other user refuses to engage. Hopefully this is the appropriate step. VisitingSamG (talk) 13:09, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
You're currently engaged in an edit war, so the first thing I'd encourage you to do is simply stop reverting Dippiljemmy's edits for now to avoid violating the three-revert rule (3RR). (I've also added the standard 3RR warning message in a section below, as it's generally informative.) I see that you've made efforts in your edit summaries, on the article talk page, and on their user talk page, and they haven't responded to any of your messages. Regardless, I still mainly encourage you to stop reverting their edits. If this continues, I encourage you to read through "Wikipedia:Dispute resolution", as that policy documents multiple methods of resolving disputes like this. 3RR warning message edit

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. The user VisitingSamG is continuing an edit war with the page involved. He is continuing (despite being warned) to revert and change clearly relevant, well referenced material. I am making constructive, relevant, well referenced additions to the article that keep getting deleted and changed for reasons that appear to lack validity. Thank you for taking an interest in this article.Dippiljemmy (talk) 22:51, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
I would also like to point out that the user VisitingSamG is also now going through my edits on other pages and block deleting my well-referenced, highly relevant contributions. This overt harassment must cease. Please if you could assist me that would be highly appreciated.Dippiljemmy (talk) 23:17, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

My understanding is that the 3RR makes an exception for defamatory material. VisitingSamG (talk) 14:57, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Correct, which is why I haven't taken this to WP:AN3RR or anything along those lines, regardless of the fact that you have definitely passed the three-revert line. However, note the following text from the exemption regarding BLP:

What counts as exempt under BLP can be controversial. Consider reporting to the BLP noticeboard instead of relying on this exemption.

Also, you say that you've brought this to the BLP noticeboard, but I see no edits from you on that page, nor anything regarding this article. Are you sure you did this? Bsoyka (talk) 16:05, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

I put the tag on the article’s talk page. Do I also need to create an entry somewhere else? VisitingSamG (talk) 22:27, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes; the BLP noticeboard is a separate page. Now I really must say this apparently, stop reverting on the Death of Arnold Walker article. I am going to further review your reverts on that article now and may bring this to WP:AN3RR shortly for more experienced administrators to review. Bsoyka (talk) 23:34, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I have now updated the noticeboard. VisitingSamG (talk) 05:30, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Notice of edit warring noticeboard discussion edit

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. The thread is User:VisitingSamG and User:Dippiljemmy. Thank you. Bsoyka (talk) 00:28, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello VisitingSamG. Some friendly advice. I suggest that you have a read of WP:EDITWAR and refrain from editing the article until the issues have been thrashed out on the talk page. You are in danger of being blocked for edit-warring, as you have been warned and the issues have not yet been resolved. You need to step back for a couple of days and take a few deep breaths while other editors have a chance to review the article and the issues around it. March 2022 edit

You have been blocked from editing from certain pages (Death of Arnold Walker) for a period of 2 weeks for edit warring. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Drmies (talk) 16:18, 22 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
