MOS:DATES edit

Hello, and thanks for editing on Wikipedia. I noticed that on the page for USS Jackson (LCS-6), you made changes to the date formatting on the page, which were reverted. I just wanted to take a moment to give you some background and help you understand what happened.

There are two issues here for you to consider:

1. Most U.S.-centric articles will use standard U.S. date format (MDY), for example "November 30, 2015". However, articles for U.S. military vessels typically use military date format (DMY), for example "30 November 2015".

2. Wikipedia's general policy is to retain the existing date format on a page, unless you get consensus to change it. (I initially learned the hard way that people get upset when you arbitrarily change date formats on a page!)

I just wanted to provide this additional context to you, so you'd understand why you were reverted. Folks who stopped and explained things to me made a big difference in understanding what was going on, so I'm just trying to pay it forward. Shelbystripes (talk) 19:05, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
