Reusing Wikipedia Images

Hello!

I used the creative commons website to search for images that can be used, but found images already on wikipedia. Am I able to use these images for my article and just add a link to the source? Thnaks!

• You definitely can! Just make sure that the use of the image makes sense. For example, if a specific person was very instrumental to a particular topic, then it's definitely reasonable to include a picture of that person. However adding a picture of say, the person's house or someone they knew would not make sense. Another example would be if you were writing about depression and included a picture of a random person - unless it's extremely easy to see where the image would relate to the topic. For example, this image shows a woman drinking and looking downcast - this could be useful since it would presumably show that substance abuse can lead to depression or that depression can sometimes lead to people trying to self medicate via drugs and alcohol. However this image is more vague on the topic of depression in that while the image labels the woman as sad, it's not overly obvious and someone could say that she isn't sad, but contemplative or some other state or emotion.

I did also want to comment on the edits you made to cosmogony. It looks like you didn't really use any sourcing except for one link - you absolutely need to have sourcing to back up the content you add to the article. You also want to be very careful to avoid original research. Another thing to note is that the article is meant to be about the general topic of cosmogony as opposed to one model over another. While there's definite merit to expanding the article's sections on scientific creation and creation myths, keep in mind that this should still be a very general overview of these topics since there is already an article on each of these topics.
