May 2022 edit

Hi UnidentifiedX! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Abbeywood Community School that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 14:09, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oops! Thanks for noticing, don’t quite know why I hit the minor edit button. I’ll be sure to take more time in the future 😂 UnidentifiedX (talk) 14:15, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Metaverse GA review edit

Hey, I see you failed Metaverse recently as GA for plagiarism and NPOV violations recently. I think the plagiarism is a non-issue because the source plagiarised from wikipedia and not the other way around, can prove that with archives if it comes to it. But I want to improve on Metaverse's NPOV. Would you mind outlining what you think the main issues were there? BrigadierG (talk) 16:08, 29 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Thanks for your response. The possible plagiarism report can be found here. If you disagree with the result then please reply to this message and we can discuss further. Have a good day! UnidentifiedX (talk) 19:35, 29 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hey, I replied on the Metaverse talk page regarding the plagiarism report. TL;DR No-name crypto spam site paraphrases the entire Wikipedia page, and adds a bunch of poor grammar and spelling errors in the process. BrigadierG (talk) 20:46, 29 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

GA reviews issues edit

Hi @UnidentifiedX. I've come across some of your past GA reviews and I have serious concerns regarding your article assessment process. On your userpage you say I am familiar with what a good article is and what they should look like, so if you are ever in need of assistance contact me via my talk page, although you only have a total of less than 500 edits and no substantial experience in content creating. Importantly, this is already after one of your reviews had to be reassessed and ended up delisted.

Overall, you tend to use the GAR table template as a checklist without much commentary and, in many cases, you give immediate passes for stuff that at the very least requires a short acknowledgment and/or feedback. That should not really happen even with articles by the most seasoned editors. For instance, you passed with virtually no comments the article on Times Square Theater (review) by @Epicgenius, who happens to be a prolific editor with a ton of experience and, thankfully, can probably stand on its own without much intervention, although it's still prudent to do go through the text and offer some feedback. In your James Markham Ambler review, also by an experienced editor @Kavyansh.Singh, you similarly checked every box in the table without writing much else (even though you said you had performed MoS check, there are very minor MoS issues throughout that the author of the article is relying on you to alert them to). Again, you were in luck in that the work is clearly of high enough quality so as not to alarm other users.

What is really worrying, however, is that you apply the same seemingly hasty criteria to the work of unexperienced editors who then are led to believe their articles are on GA level. In other words, passing a C-level article by an editor with little experience can be detrimental to the encyclopedia and is likely to discourage new users if their work is ever to be delisted. For example, there are some striking lapses in your GA review of Southworth Library (Dartmouth, Massachusetts), which you passed while leaving "(b) (citations to reliable sources)" box "Undetermined". One of the key responsibilities of a reviewer is to ensure reliability of sources to the best of your abilities and leaving that box unchecked is completely unacceptable, especially without any more feedback.

The article relies largely on one article from Dartmouth Week Today, a local newspaper that seems like a helpful reference but not a source on which you should base an entire article; that is something you should have raised during the review but you let it pass without even resolving it. Moreover, some important source links are not working (Footnote 4, an MA thesis with a wealth of information and sources on the subject), there are WP:REFBOMB issues, you made no comments regarding MOS:LEAD, which is clearly very short, you provided very little guidance regarding formatting (Public Usage section is a list of sentences while "At the Dartmouth Cultural Center" just sounds awkward), no suggestions for more content despite the article having major gaps in the buildings history in the 20th century, left multiple other MoS issues (m-dashes, insufficient links etc.)

In your Diamond Miller review, you gave some more comments, including some spotchecks feedback, although this is a WP:BLP subject and you did not seem to have pointed out the lack of DOB source, a critical aspect of any BLP article. You also provided no feedback regarding organization (why is her major mentioned at the very end, despite an entire paragraph on college career?). Further, your reviewing style shows that you may not be fully aware of the process; you claim that if my comments are not responded to within a few days, the article will subsequently be placed on hold suggesting this as a punitive measure, despite the hold being intended precisely for providing the nominator with enough time to respond to any feedback.

That's just some of the stuff I've found and it casts serious doubts on your competence as a GA reviewer. Each nominator deserves the time you commit to as a reviewer. While I think it's great you have such enthusiasm for en-wiki and for high quality articles, you do not seem to have the experience necessary for conducting reviews and that can be harmful to the encyclopedia. Can you offer some explanations? I wanted to give you an opportunity to do so before starting any reassessments. Thanks so much. Ppt91talk 18:31, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
