I'm going to revert back to the old venus sign version because I like it more. Obviously, that is not a great reason, so I will be sure to say in my edit summary to discuss it on the talk page if you disagree. The person who made the change was an anon, otherwise I would discuss it with them. Anyway, if anyone wants it back to the equal sign, we can discuss it. Why are we keeping this thing pink? It's stupid to offend people for trivial reasons, and keeping it pink because it's "hilarious" is unintelligent and immature. Morgan695 02:12, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

It doesn't offend anyone sane. The only people who would be deeply, tragically distraught by a slight difference in the coloration of a few pixels of light on a computer screen is beyond pleasing anyway. The other feminist template was a tongue-in-cheek, self-parodying, satirical, amusing, witty, clever, and truly fitting self-referential and meaningful statement of feminism. Beautiful works of sly wit shouldn't be deleted for the sake of arbitrary Political Correctness or to avoid offending people who have no business being offended by such trivialities anyway. Why on earth do you think that someone realized that this template was pink and went to the huge trouble of making an entire different template instead of simply editing this one to fix that? Because it's funny! Anyone could have fixed it at any time; they didn't make the other template to urge anyone to fix it, they created to template to turn something that could have been unintentionally offensive into a pleasant little satirical treat. And it's funny because it's such a fantastic demonstration of stereotypical, oldskool feminist nitpicking, which, though hardly representative of the entire feminist viewpoint, makes for quite a good injoke regardless. And that should be good enough. We're Wikipedia, not Britannica; a little silliness for the sake of brief moments of brilliance is not illegal. This entire controversy is already solved by the fact that the two templates exist, and everyone should be satisfied with that state of affairs. If someone wants to make a third feminist template that isn't involved in the big joke, they can certainly do that; wouldn't be a bad idea, really, as it would leave both options open! But this one should be kept as-is, so that the other one can be kept as-is.

Alright, I can agree to that. But just so you know, your statement of "We're Wikipedia, not Britannica; a little silliness for the sake of brief moments of brilliance is not illegal." is untrue. The purpose and use of userboxes has been but up to scrutiny as of late, and I felt that there was no need to add fuel to the fire by having an unneeded userbox. I for one am glad to see people like Silence around to combat the drab bureaucratic monotony invading this place more and more. As for the joke, credit is due User:DinoMo, who used it in a makeshift template for her own userpage. No harm was meant to anyone involved with this template, and I'm not especially offended by the color pink. Much of the motivation came from the older, uglier version of this template [1] (it's nice it got some attention, it looks much nicer), which was probably in no small part because it was created simply as a misogynist "joke". [2]. But mostly I just found it funny (as Silence did) that some feminists will be die-hard about the color, while others see it as a self-limitation or even offensive. When I first created this userbox, the place for the image was actually a link to feminism under the title: "I h8 men". It was almost speedied because someone thought it was sexist. The fact that eight people are currently using this template, even though there are two viable alternatives, also makes me think that this issue isn't a big deal. If no one liked it enough to use it, it'd be a different story, and if no one was using either of the original two "feminist" templates (pink and anti-pink), I'd certainly be for deleting them. -Silence 13:54, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

That is true, but I find that many people are hesitant to edit pages in user space. I'm trying to remove the hesitation. —Mira 19:25, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
