ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Edit on Splatoon 3

Hey! Just figured I'd mention that I'm fairly sure it is canon that a nuke was launched on the ice caps in Splatoon 3 which caused the world to flood. I know this isn't mentioned in any of the sources, however "nuclear holocaust" is technically canon. ― Blaze Wolf^Talk_{Blaze Wolf#6545} 00:29, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

I did think about this, but nuclear holocaust is a bit of a misleading way of describing it in my opinion - it's more, climate change accelerated by one nuclear explosion than the classic nuclear winter/widespread radioactive fallout/etc that you'd imagine from a typical nuclear holocaust. But yeah, it's a bit of a moot point without it being mentioned in any reliable sources... and now I search for it and find this article which actually explains the entire lore of Splatoon and Splatoon 2, but isn't about 3, so I'm not sure it's relevant enough to be cited in the article for 3 specifically? If you can work out a good way to to include it, though, I'm not going to object :). twotwos (talk) 01:41, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

Fraser Island (K'gari) name change.

Hey there, while I do not dispute that the statement 'many people still refer to it as Fraser Island' should be quantified to not have it on the page is politically inflammatory as colonial history (the good, the bad, the ugly) should still be represented as it is Australian history. Instead of revoking statements unnecessarily, if finding a source is that important, then let's look for it together. However, I warn you, you will be hard-pressed to find reliable sources on something that is common knowledge. Ash.david (talk) 08:28, 6 January 2024 (UTC)

It is an unfortunate consequence of the way Wikipedia works that some things which are well-known to some people just can't be included because they don't have sources. In this case specifically, I think readers can take the article title still being "Fraser Island" as a clue that it might be the more common name. Personally, I'm not that invested. I strongly encourage you to bring this up on the article's talk page; interested editors may help you find a source, or discussion might lead to a consensus to not include this information - such is life. At least, moving to the talk page instead of repeating a reverted edit will generate some goodwill and help you avoid edit warring.

As a side note I did attempt to find sources but mostly just found a lot of news articles about people being attacked by dingoes. If this discussion gets tiring and you want something else to do, you might be able to expand the "Dingoes" section in the article. twotwos (talk) 09:31, 6 January 2024 (UTC)

I'm not interested in the dingoes buddy, I'm interested in preserving common knowledge among our current culture right now. That includes people who still refer to K'gari as Fraser. And that's not racist or wrong, it's just how it is. We have an indigenous heritage, and a British colonial one. We should honour both.

If you're not invested then why keep editing out stuff that's common knowledge? Find reputable sources instead. No amount of deletage or discussion in forums will change this. Ash.david (talk) 18:58, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
