Re: Last Alliance (band) edit

Ideally those infoboxes would be present in articles on their respective albums, accompanied by sale info, reviews, production notes, etc.. Even better would be a separate discography article or section that details the band's release catalog. Unfortunately, as your tags prove, the article is currently in poor shape. Taking away content that will prove useful in future expansion (& in accordance with the guidelines set forth in WP:MUSTARD) seems counterproductive. Eventually another editor will have to recreate these infoboxes and re-upload the accompanying images. Let's dismiss the vain urge of immediatism and allow the wiki process some time to fix up and break up/properly format this article. Sadly, I don't have the time to do so myself, nor am I familiar with the band's history. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 06:24, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Neither Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tears Library nor Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Last Alliance (single) should be judged as thorough analyses. There was hardly any input and the closings were arbitrary. Now you could waste time at WP:DELREV, but if you simply create articles on Last Alliance's releases that go beyond infoboxes, track listings, and an introductory sentence, then I can assure you that no one would bother you. If you could send me links to a few english-language sources on the band/releases, I could probably help you flesh out the coverage to the point where prior AfDs would become moot. A few suggestions edit

Hi, Darth Panda

Thank you for your help in assessing the articles. A few suggestions, some of which may save you a lot of time:

  • AWB adds "Using AWB" to edit summaries. ("Update project assessment per Tag & Assess 2008, please help using AWB". My default edit summary is "Update project assessment per Wikipedia:WikiProject Anime and manga/Assessment/Tag & Assess 2008" (using AWB).
  • Updating the worklist takes a lot of time. If you use AWB, you can save where you stopped, and continue later. It is not really needed to update the individual worklist (I do not do this anymore myself - though WP:ANIME/TA# Worklists still needs to be updated).
  • AWB do not list and open articles in the same order as the worklist. I suggest exporting the worklist to a text file (convert from talk pages first), and copy and paste this into any page here, and preview the list. Open the pages in tabs (they will then be in the same order). A large - or second - screen helps in this regard (Being able to view AWB and the browser simultaneously).

Hope this helps,

Regards, G.A.Stalk 06:09, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ah, thanks for the tips! I'm just starting to learn how to use AWB, so hopefully, I'll get better as I keep going! I'm using a dual monitor configuration though, so that seems to help. I found that I could just pull all of the links from the Assessment list and use those as links for AWB, but you seem to have a faster method with the text file... Could you explain that in more detail? Thanks! DARTH PANDAduel 06:14, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Using the links, yes, that is the correct method (Make list> links on page > Wikipedia:WikiProject Anime and manga/Assessment/Tag & Assess 2008/023) > filter > Talk: > OK > (Rightclick on list) Convert from talk pages > (Rightclick on list) Save list > (Rightclick on list) Convert to talk pages) AWB should have 200 talk pages in the list, and the text file should contain a list of the articles.
Copy and paste the text file onto any Wikipedia page, and preview. You should then be able to open the pages from the preview in the correct order in seperate tabs. (I usually use the sandbox, though I do not save the preview).
You can then start AWB, which will open the talk pages in the same order as you have opened the tabs. I usually open 20 - 50 pages in tabs in order to gain momentum, but not so much as to having to discard hundreds of unassessed tabs if I run out of time.)

Re:FLRC edit

Bringing an FLRC over one concern is frankly overblown and annoying. I will work towards addressing the summaries issue, but this is something that could be solved over a discussion on the talk page. FLRC is for lists with serious issues. Be more circumspect in the future. I'd recommend you withdraw the FLRC. — sephiroth bcr (converse) 01:45, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Any discussion over an item of featured content is a big deal. I'm open to working on them, but as you said, you have little-to-no experience in these areas, and showing the proper discretion as a result would be nice. I'm currently busy as a result of the Christmas season, and I'll work on them when I have the time. — sephiroth bcr (converse) 01:50, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Peer review limits edit

Ah, I didn't actually know that (as you correctly assumed)... I will happly remove it if you wish; I probably can't fix the comments in both peer reviews anyways... a bit of advice.... edit

Do you think this is ready enough to move to mainspace? An article on Daniel St. Piere. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 22:58, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm pretty sure that page is ready for mainspace, but it'll need some work for it to become a full-fledged "article." For instance, the lead section is too short and contains too many links (see WP:LEAD). Furthermore, the refs should follow the {{cite }} templates. Finally, you could possibly split "Background" into several sections. Anyways, I'm not an article creator for the most part, so my suggestions may not be correct... best of luck! FYI edit

Copying the structure of my menu is fine, but having the exact same images is a bit much. Have a bit of originality. There are a ton of options on Commons. — sephiroth bcr (converse) 17:00, 25 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I wasn't aware that I was copying your menu. Originally, I had taken the menu from User:NuclearWarfare. Further, I would think that copying someone else's menu would be a compliment to how well they designed the menu. DARTH PANDAduel 22:05, 25 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
...please allow me to express my disbelief that you didn't take it from me. When every single image is the same as my menu and the style is exactly the same (your menu isn't even close to the same as NuclearWarfare), then you copied it from me. Again, I don't care that you copied the style; I'm noting that changing the images up is a bit of originality that would benefit you. It's weird that you have the exact same menu. — sephiroth bcr (converse) 23:41, 25 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Forgive me if I'm wrong, Sephiroth, but this version of NuclearWarfare's menu (which was active until 12:40 on on the 25th of December) is exactly what I stole from. Again, I don't care about the same style. I'm pressing for you to have a bit of originality and choose your own images. Goes a long way ;-) — sephiroth bcr (converse) 00:18, 26 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

New user welcomes edit

Hi there; a request, if you would. Clearly we want to welcome new users, and I could not criticise your doing so. but could I ask you to consider the various wiki policies regarding usenames? You recently welcomed user:Poopypants9000. I have just given him a username block. Please, if you choose to welcome new users with dodgy usernames (this user has already vandalised) could you also query their username with them? {{usernameconcern}} is a helpful template. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 20:24, 31 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I was just discussing this issue with a few users on IRC. Twinkle and Huggle now insert a welcome message in addition to the warning of a CSD template on a page they created. It is therefore almost impossible for me to notice the username when I am using such a script as I usually don't pay attention to usernames. I'll try to do so in the future, however. I believe Iceflow has begun a discussion about this here. Thanks for the heads up though! DARTH PANDAduel 20:32, 31 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Complaint edit

Did you not even read my explanation for changing. Pepsi HAS to change all flavors to match the current logo, or the line wouldn't match. People will look at the flavors and wonder when they are going to acquire the new design. The point is that all designs match, all right? That means that if Pepsi redesigns with lowercase font, all versions do. Otherwise an old one still in use with capitilized letters wouldn't fit in, that means match the others, and people would not be happy with that. Now I'm going to undo your change and you won't change it back, will you? Okay, great thanks. Please respond. Bob--99.145.232.61 (talk) 01:14, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Help with Problem with 99.235.109.172 at List of commercial games released as freeware edit

The person at this IP, 99.235.109.172, has been constantly re-adding incorrect info to the article List of commercial games released as freeware, about MechCommander 2. It's been already discussed on the talk page the reasons why this info is incorrect. He keeps on re-adding it with no explanation whatsoever. It looks like it may become an edit war. I'm not sure who is the right person to inform about this? As I've seen you undoing some of his edits, do you know the correct procedure here? Any admin I should inform? Wait a little more to see what happens? I'm not sure if it makes sense talking in an IP Talk Page. Thanks! --Sega381 (talk) 03:26, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've taken a look at the situation, and it'd probably be best to inform him that you're reverting him. Pop him a nice and friendly message on his IP Talk Page (good thing his IP is static) and link him to Talk:List of commercial games released as freeware#MechCommander Series. If he ignores your comments and continues to war, I'd suggest either reporting him to WP:3RR when he breaks it or warning him for unsourced information and bringing him to WP:AIV if he goes over. His previous interactions with me haven't been the best, so I'm not really all that optimistic that talking to him will help... Assume good faith anyway, and let me know if you still need help. Hello,

Regarding my previous post editing Matt Corker,

You have, for want of a better word, rejected my post.

Please note, I happen to be good friends with his cousin Shaun Kerr and there is nothing in this which isn't the truth.

All information in this post is accurate and may be interesting to people that wish to read about Matt Corker.

If you require more evidence then please advise as I can quite easily facilitate.

I suggest you rethink your rejection of my post.

Yours faithfully,

Scott G. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scottygriff (talkcontribs) 01:29, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, evidence would be good. Content must be from a neutral point of view. Your edit ("All in all, the Corker/Kerr family, boasts an eclectic mix of both brawn and brain at any given social event.") clearly favored Corker, which is unacceptable. "starring in films such as: Violence Is The Answer and Where Eagles Fly. He has also starred on stage, appearing as 'The Bookeeper' in 'The Bookshop' sketch in his sixth year show, the mandatory stage performance of the year." is perfectly fine, but material like "Shaun Kerr is his cousin, standing at a modest 6ft and 11 stones exactly, looks up to the rugby prodigy. His comments on his cousin include, "He is brick" and "He carries the throne of the Corker family"." is irrelevant to the article and should also not be included. If you can source the film appearances, that is the only material that would be allowed in the article. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks. Your opinion edit

How do you think I would do in a RfA right now? astatine-210 discovered elements, what am I? 20:21, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I did a very cursory glance at your contributions (as I don't have the time right now to fully look at them) and I have a few comments. You seem like the anti-vandal type of user, and those rarely pass unless they're absolutely perfect in their work (see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/J.delanoy 2 for one of the only successful ones in recent memory). That being said, you have absolutely zero article work that I can see of, which is one of the main criteria for adminship these days. In addition, you have only 747 contribs at the time of writing. In general, 3000 is minimum amount of edits (and occasionally 4000). As a vandal reverter, you will need substantially more to prove your worth. Finally, your user account first began editing on January 26, just a few days ago. You need at least six months experience (in the eyes of most RfA voters) to even have a chance of passing. And that's just the basic criteria.
In addition, on your user page, you claim "Hi, i'm astatine-210, who was an old, knowledgeable user who decided to get a fresh start because I had been a victim of bad Wikistalking." If this is true, RfA will force you to reveal your old name (unfortunately) and I'm not sure you'd really wish to do that.
In the words of a good friend of mine, "Anybody who asks 'How will I do at RfA now?' will generally fail." I'd advise waiting at least another five months with solid antivandalism and article work, and you'll have a shot. DARTH PANDAduel • work 20:47, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Looks far better now. I almost felt bad for tagging it; I knew it could be improved, but in the state it was in, the bottom paragraph was so blatantly spam... Apparently I'm being a bit too strict with my G11s, eh? DARTH PANDAduel • work 06:07, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bitesize edit

Hello

I amended this part of the page , which you have reverted. I probably did not make it clear why i made the change.

On the site it says:-

"With such a simple system, there are not many areas to fault, however, the website does have flaws, that have been pointed out on numerous websites. For example, the Computing Studies section has been criticised for being out of date. Similarly, it has been argued that the crass use of irritating kitcsh piranhas is patronizing and unaesthetically appealing."

It uses this sites as a reference http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/02/06/bitesize_gcse/

But this site only criticises ICT and makes no reference to "irritating kitcsh piranhas". I think this might be one persons point of view. But as i work for the BBC i thought it best just make it clear that the second criticism had no references. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.185.144.122 (talk) 14:55, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

An edit from an IP mentioning "piranhas" generally looks like vandalism. In any case, I've undone my revert and struck your warning. You might want to cite the source you mentioned above so it does not look as much like vandalism next time. Sorry about that! DARTH PANDAduel • work 15:00, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Blanked pages edit

Don't forget to use: {{db-blanked}}, for instance at Craig edwards, cheers SpitfireTally-ho! 14:26, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

If you look at the revision history, the page was originally tagged with an A7. However, the proper tag for the page would have been a G10. That being said, I was huggling quickly and did not check the creator of the page. A revert (which I did) was all I could have managed. You might want to pop a note to the original CSD tagger instead. DARTH PANDAduel • work 15:03, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
heh, no problem, I thought after posting you this you were probably just patroling the recent changes and so wouldnt have relised, thanks, best wishes SpitfireTally-ho! 15:05, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jeffrey Blankfort edit

Thx. Is it ok now ? Al Maghi (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 21:27, 7 February 2009 (UTC).Reply

I still question the notability of the subject, but I don't suppose it can be speedied under A7 now. Tag removed. DARTH PANDAduel • work 21:29, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Music festivals in yorkshire edit

Sorry about the Music in yorkshire mess - please put me out of my misery and delete the offending item. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 01:07, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

As I am not an admin, I cannot delete the page. However, I have tagged the page and fully expect that it should be deleted shortly. DARTH PANDAduel • work 01:09, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bottage edit

Your Bottage is Deconstructive to the human condition; if humanity wants chaos why are you letting a robot computer program correct that? 70.88.99.170 (talk) 01:43, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am not using a robot computer program. I am using an editing tool that enhances my ability to undo vandalism, but the vandalism is undone by my hand and not by a bot. DARTH PANDAduel • work 01:45, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
A Fair Compromise. Does wikipedia allow Editing tools that promote vandalism? Just Curious, if the playing field is level

(BTW), I'm sorry to have troubled you with all of this, but I was having so much fun. =) 70.88.99.170 (talk) 01:48, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hardly. It would be quite problematic, wouldn't it? DARTH PANDAduel • work 01:49, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
But if the playing field is level and Chaos wins, doesn't that mean that Chaos SHOULD win? Why should 'Good' tools that help people be allowed if 'bad' tools that allow people are not allowed? OR, to better phrase it, if I wrote a 'bad' tool, would it be allowed? or would it not be allowed to exist? Should I make my own Chaotipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.88.99.170 (talk) 02:25, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
No, we just block anybody who supports chaos. It's like the real world: the law is usually more influential and therefore defeats "evil" so to speak. I haven't seen anarchy in an established country for ages. DARTH PANDAduel • work 03:49, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
