Source for User:TolBot/Task 8/Drives edit

Hi, I'm interested in where the source code for User:TolBot/Task 8/Drives resides, because I would like to run something vaguely similar. Stuartyeates (talk) 23:51, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Stuartyeates, apologies for the delay! I don't have the source code for this task published (mainly because I never got around to actually cleaning it up), but I could email it to you, if you'd like. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 03:57, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@User:Tol, my emails are open. Stuartyeates (talk) 04:04, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Jlvshistory (14:08, 4 December 2023) edit

hello, I just want to finish an article today about a recent event that is happend in my country this week, I created the draft yestersday, I want to submit it yesterday, but I thought it might be declined since I written a small information and I should finished it, so I continue writing today because I started it last night, and so, Im adding more reference and information about it, amd when I scrolling that down, I saw that there was a wikipedia page that has a same topic as me, so I want to delete it and I don't know how, and I have no idea why this coincidencialy happend --Jlvshistory (talk) 14:08, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Jlvshistory, it looks like you're referring to your draft Draft:Mindanao State University Bombings and the article Mindanao State University bombing. Another user also started writing the article, and the other version was published first. It looks like the published article already contains the information in your draft; if you would like the draft to be deleted, you can add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 14:40, 6 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
yes, I was referrimg to that article but ok, I will do that Jlvshistory (talk) 14:42, 6 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Whatchaknowaboutrollindownindadeep (21:52, 9 December 2023) edit

Hi, I wanted to make a translation of a page from russian. I already made it but can't publish it because I am a low rank, can you help me to make a new page? (a translation of another) It's a biography too. --Whatchaknowaboutrollindownindadeep (talk) 21:52, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Whatchaknowaboutrollindownindadeep: You can add the code {{subst:submit}} to the top of the draft, and it will be reviewed for publishing. I've also made some small style and formatting edits. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 22:35, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

NPP drive in January 2024 edit

Hi Tol, we're planning an NPP articles backlog drive in January 2024. Could you please assist with bot work? – DreamRimmer (talk) 13:37, 3 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@DreamRimmer: Yes, I can run the bot. I'll set up the task this weekend. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 14:29, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! Could you do me a last favor? If you've got a moment to spare, would you mind emailing me this adjusted configuration, just with the articles included? – DreamRimmer (talk) 00:28, 11 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
No problem, @DreamRimmer! The configuration is all done on an on-wiki config file (for this drive, hosted at User:TolBot/Task 8/Drives/2024-01 New Page Patrol/config.json). You can change the variable config_page in the code to point to a page of your choice, or you can set the variable config to your desired configuration (this will override getting the configuration from the page specified by config_page). The specific config entry that determines whether articles, redirects, or both are included is setting; setting this to "NPP" will do articles only ("NPP-redir" for redirects only, and "NPP-combo" for both). Question from TheOakTrees (11:13, 18 December 2023) edit

Hello there! Can you see my edits? And if so, could you give me some tips? I'd love to know what I could do better in the future! --TheOakTrees (talk) 11:13, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@TheOakTrees, welcome to Wikipedia! Yes, I can see your edits; all users' edits are linked to their account and can be viewed on their contributions page. My main concern is that many of your edits don't seem particularly constructive — for example, in May, you changed "See also" to "Also see" and added a trailing space to the end of a paragraph; neither of these edits were useful. Your more recent edits also have issues: for instance, this edit added excessive links (more links is not always better — see the relevant section of Wikipedia's Manual of Style). Most recently, in this edit and this edit, you added in extended sections of unsourced content with very promotional wording. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and Wikipedia content should be written from a neutral point of view, with citations to reliable sources to support statements. These content additions seem to have been written by a large language model (LLM), such as ChatGPT or Google Bard; LLM-generated content is often unsuitable for Wikipedia, and I would strongly advise against pasting LLM output into articles. If you'd like to add content, please write it in your own words and make sure it is supported by citations. Finally, in case you are writing about yourself on Draft:Smushisbruh and in your sandbox, Wikipedia strongly discourages doing so; as it stands, the draft is written in such a promotional tone that I would consider it eligible for speedy deletion (under criterion G11). I would encourage you to contribute to other topics, instead. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 07:19, 20 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Patientia1 (16:36, 15 December 2023) edit

Apparently you're my mentor. My first article on Linda Loppa was deleted and now is moved to drafts (I was not done and it's a translation job plus article). I wrote another one on Clé de Peau Beauté which I think is a simpler topic. Can you please look at them and tell me what needs to be fixed? --Patientia1 (talk) 16:36, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

I moved Linda Loppa out of drafts now because I think it's at least better than many articles that are published even if it needs work. I can't figure out how to link it to the French and Dutch Wikipedia articles. Can you help? Those two articles are linked to each other but I don't know how to get the English one aligned. Patientia1 (talk) 23:41, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi, @Patientia1; welcome to Wikipedia! Based on what I can see, I think speedy deletion of Linda Loppa was excessive; I would recommend, though, to develop articles in draftspace, as this would provide more time to expand them with much less scrutiny or worry of deletion. As for the article as it stands, I would recommend adding more inline citations; while the policy requirement is a fairly low bar, it is generally preferable to have more information cited inline. I would additionally suggest citing more secondary sources (not Polimoda itself). For Clé de Peau Beauté, I would also recommend relying more on secondary sources and improving some wording (e.g. specifically what "series of high-tech innovations"?).
Interlanguage links are done through the Wikidata project; the relevant item here is Linda Loppa (Q15878757). However, you can add them directly in Wikipedia by selecting "Add interlanguage links" (if you use the default interface, this is in the right-side "Tools" menu/sidebar). Here, you would put "frwiki" or "nlwiki" for the languages' wiki codes.
I hope this helped; please let me know if you have any further questions. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 02:46, 17 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you - I was able to add the links to the Dutch and French Wikipedias. to Linda Loppa. Will probably work on these and maybe some other brands or people later. Patientia1 (talk) 18:37, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
No problem, @Patientia1. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 13:12, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Could you also help with Tokyo Fashion Week? I'm not sure if I got the language translation right with the names and stuff. Paris Fashion Week seems to have the French out of a template but I wasn't able to recreate it for Japanese. Patientia1 (talk) 13:27, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Patientia1, I've formatted this for you, using the {{Lang-ja}} template. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 07:15, 22 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from PaulaSunshine (14:57, 21 December 2023) edit

I'm not sure I know enough about this to ask questions. However, I do worry about being counted as active. I often go away for a month or more and often don't have good internet connections or time. Will that be an issue? --PaulaSunshine (talk) 14:57, 21 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @PaulaSunshine; welcome to Wikipedia! I'm not quite sure what you mean by being "counted as active" — Wikipedia is a volunteer project, and anybody is welcome to contribute as much or as little as one would like. There's no need to be continually active, and periodic inactivity shouldn't be much of a problem — the only worry that I might have is that some discussions (particularly more internal process-type discussions, which are often a week long) could proceed in your absence.
