Additional tips edit
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!
- If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
- You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
- You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
- If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
- If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
- If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

especially notable? We try not to be too American-centric here, and the qualification "in the United States" doesn't seem make this event all that notable. Why not just list the event for the first-ever performance anywhere? Rklawton 22:31, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

John E. Mack edit
Thomas, I'd ask you to reconsider your addition to the John E. Mack page. You have added information about the death of John Mack that, while being factual, is not the kind of info that should be present in a person's biography. The model car that struck him, the name of the driver, the alcohol level of the driver's bloodstream -- these are facts that have no relevancy to John Mack's life. Rather that remove this information myself I am asking you to do so. May we suggest the following:
On Monday September 27, 2004 while in London to lecture at a T.E. Lawrence Society sponsored conference, Mack was killed by a drunken driver heading west on Totteridge Lane. Mack was walking home alone from a dinner with friends when he was struck at 11:25 p.m. near the junction of Totteridge Lane and Longland Drive. He lost consciousness at the scene of the accident and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The driver was arrested at the scene and later entered a plea of guilty “by careless driving whilst under the influence of alcohol”. Dr. Mack's family has not endorsed conspiracy theories surrounding his death, and they requested leniency for the suspect in a letter to the Wood Green Crown Court. "Although this was a tragic event for our family," the letter reads, "we feel [the accused's] behavior was neither malicious nor intentional, and we have no ill will toward him since we learned of the circumstances of the collision."
Update: Actually, anticipating you may agree, I went ahead and made the changes but as always, you may revert or modify if you feel strongly that the name of the driver etc has a bearing. Thank you.

Rosemary Farm edit
Hi, Thomasolson. While looking at the Gold Coast Mansions article, I noticed that an IP editor removed the addition of Rosemary Farm that you added to the list with this edit. A quick look at the (now-inactive) IP's contributions suggests that the person is at the least not an obvious vandal and may be a valuable contributor as well. Unfortunately, the editor did not leave many edit summaries or supply references to support their additions. Back to the Farm, should it or should it not be included in the list? You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride, a global campaign to create and improve LGBT-related content at Wikipedia during the month of June, culminating with a multinational edit-a-thon on June 21. The project is being spearheaded by two organizers with roots in the Pacific Northwest. Meetups are being organized in some cities, or you can participate remotely. Wikimedia Commons will also be hosting an LGBT-related photo challenge. In Portland, there are two ways to contribute. One is a photography campaign called "Pride PDX", for pictures related to LGBT culture and history. The Wiki Loves Pride edit-a-thon will be held on Saturday, June 21 from noon–4pm at Smith Memorial Student Union, Room 236 at Portland State University. International Women's Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, Oregon Jewish Museum, Thursday, March 7 edit
The Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, in partnership with social practice artist Shoshana Gugenheim and as part of the Art+Feminism Project, will host the 2nd Annual International Women's Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to edit and/or create Wikipedia articles for Jewish women artists. The event will be held at the museum on Thursday, March 7 from 4 to 8 pm. Pre-registration is preferred but not required. Members of the public are invited to come to the museum to learn about the editing process, its history, its impact, and how to do it. We aim to collaboratively edit/enter 18 Jewish women artists into the canon. Support will be provided by an experienced local Wikipedian who will be on site to teach and guide the process. This edit-a-thon will serve as both a public art action and a public educational program. Participants will have an opportunity to select an artist/s ahead of time or on site.

Wikipedia is one of the most-visited sites on the internet—and it’s created by people who volunteer their time to write and edit pages. Learn how to edit Wikipedia and be a part of shaping our understanding of our world. In this workshop, volunteer Wikipedia editors will be on hand to train participants on how to get started editing pages and offer ideas for which pages you can pitch in to help improve. Show up at any point during the four hours to get started!
Also: Free burritos!! We will be providing vegan, vegetarian, and meat burritos from food cart Loncheria Las Mayos. Alder Commons has a large, fenced playground. Children are welcome! Some computers will be available to borrow, but if you have a laptop, please bring it to use. We will also be leading an online training for new editors at 11am-12pm PST. Please feel free to join that training if you are not able to show up IRL.
