Speedy deletion nomination of The Soldiers' Charity edit

Hello Thesoldierscharity,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged The Soldiers' Charity for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.  SmileBlueJay97  talk  09:50, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello. You have a new message at SmileBlueJay97's talk page.

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Thesoldierscharity (talk) 14:46, 26 August 2014 (UTC) the panda ₯’: It's quite difficult to respond to you when I'm blocked. In the event that you see this message, how about this:Reply

  • Yes, I understand what Wikipedia is. As it's not a directory, can you please also flag for deletion the entries of every single company that has a page on here. Let's start with Microsoft, the Royal British Legion, Manchester United, Mercedes - just to name a few.
  • I understand conflict of interest - SmileBlueJay was working with me on correcting our errors, like sourcing our own website, and we had it in hand. You rode in on your high-horse and 'took over'.
  • Given that similar organisations like Help for Heroes, the British Legion etc all have pages on Wikipedia, and that The Soldiers' Charity is the official charity of the British Army, since 1944, I'd argue that yes, we are quite notable, and of interest to our 100,000+ supporters, and the wider Army Family.

Question for you:

  • Why did you feel it necessary to wade into an issue that was already being resolved by one of Wikipedia's editors?

Thanks in advance for your speedy response :)

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. the panda ₯’ 08:53, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of The Soldiers' Charity edit

The article The Soldiers' Charity has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable, promotional in nature. Created by someone with WP:COI. No external sourcing - in fact, relies entirely on its own website.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. the panda ₯’ 08:55, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
