Collapsed ahnentafeln, again

Please see Template talk:ahnentafel top, for which User:Thumperward has now created a (non-default) "hide" option ["collapsed=yes"]. He wants to delete my makeshift Template:ahnentafel-collapsed-top, but I asked him to wait until we can make the necessary substitutions [—now done] —— Shakescene (talk) 21:39, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

I think you should talk to User:CapitalR about changing back the template to its collapsed state it originally was at. There was no discussion about this change. It's a waste a space on many articles.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 22:31, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

I think this administrator must just dislike collapsed templates in general, since his or her user page shows a tool to Expand Templates (see Special pages in your own Toolbox on the left sidebar). I don't think she or he had any idea of the trouble this would cause (this template links to over 2,500 separate articles, some of which probably benefit from an open ahnentafel, e.g. Alexander the Great, while the ones we've worked on generally don't).
Unfortunately, there are only two contributions from CapitalR in July and none in August; I think (hoping of course that's it not something more serious) that this administrator is either taking a real-world or Wiki holiday, or away from his or her computer because of a technical breakdown, academic schedule or workplace situation. So reaching him or her might be slow or difficult.
¶ How does one best gather the open vs collapsed default preferences of the individual editors of a couple of thousand affected articles? You'd know best, since I've fiddled with only a dozen of them whereas you must be quite familiar with groups like Wikipedia:WikiProject British Royalty. This might require a Request for Comment on the Wikipedia-wide Centralized Discussion template, but the question would be where to anchor that discussion (e.g. the ahnentafel-top talk page or Wikipedia:WikiProject Royalty)?—— Shakescene (talk) 04:56, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry to say that I don't know how would you go around doing that. I haven't done that before. I not really familiar with those groups you said but I would post the issue on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Royalty, telling people to check the problem out on the ahnentafel-top talk page. Captions

Got it, no problem. Probably the only caption I can write are their names, for example Guy of Dampierre there is a picture of him on a horse and nothing else written; I can't write "Picture of Guy riding on a horse next to a priest."--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 22:37, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

I do not understand: I tried doing a simple move by clicking on "move" then correct the title from "Blessef Margaret of Lorraine" to "Blessed Margaret of Lorraine". A red warning came up saying this could not be done because there is already a "Blessed Margaret of Lorraine" which, when clicked upon, brought me to "Blessef Margaret of Lorraine".

We may need the help of a wiki-expert on this one. Please do not copy & paste in order to get it right as we would lose the history of the article. We'll find someone to help. I'll check with you in a few hours

What are you doing?

Why did you move the articles on the princes of Capua and Salerno and some of Benevento? Their titles were perfectly fine and perfectly in line with the naming conventions. All you've done is increase their length and add a visually annoying comma. You should undo all of those moves and take it to WP:RM. —Srnec (talk) 02:11, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

I move them back but not because of your reasonings. Most counts, princes, and dukes are titled as such. Thank you very much. I don't think you understand the period. This is the early Middle Ages we're talking about. These are not "princelings" in a late medieval/Renaissance sense. Holy Roman Emperor

You recently approvingly restored the version of the article List of German monarchs to which I had reverted after a series of bad edits by MacKay86. Could please look at the above-linked article and review my revert this time. User MacKay, to judge by his langauge, has a serious problem meeting disagreement. I don't know. I totally stand on your side because that revert was my older contribution to the page. I don't why User MacKay like to create new pictures that are squashed versions of the original picture from the commons and also spacing each monarch in different tables. Do you know how we should tackle this? I mean we can't just keep reverting each others edits. Template:Tsarevich of Russia

At the bottom of the Tsarevich of Russia template, you placed an "*" next to the names of Alexei Petrovich, Alexander Petrovich, Paul Petrovich, Peter Petrovich, Paul Petrovich, and Peter Petrovich with the note "raised to Grand Ducal rank in 1721." According to the Peter the Great article, except for the last Paul Petrovich, who was born and died in 1723, all of these people died before 1721. It seems to me that if 1721 is significant for right to the title "Grand Duke" then no one was "raised to Grand Ducal rank in 1721" as the last Paul Petrovich was born with that rank in 1723 and the others never had it.
