Hung Ta-chen

This edit was badly wrong. You can clearly see that the Kashmir territory extended up to the bend in the Karakash river. In fact, Dorothy Woodward says (p.73):

Clarke added that a Chinese map drawn by Hung Ta-chen, Minister in St. Petersburg, confirmed the Johnson alignment showing West Aksai Chin as within British (Kashmir) territory.

Noorani gives a longer quote from Clarke's note (p.90):

The Aksai Chin (White Desert) are the great soda plains east of Karakoram and south of the Kuen Lun. I think Mr Macartney is right in his belief that the region is partly in Chinese and partly in British (Kashmir) territory. It is a pity that Mr Macartney did not back up his opinion by referring Huang Tajen to the map prepared of this part of the country, by Hung Ta-chin, late Chinese minister at St. Petersburg (see enclosure of Mr Macartney’s letter to Resident in Kashmir, No. 141, dated the 23rd July 1893). I have marked the Aksai Chin on that map, and part clearly is shown as within Kashmir territory. Will Superintendent External (b), please say if the question of this corner of the Tibet–border has come up before.[2]

Please also keep in mind that "Aksai Chin" only referred to the Soda Plains in those days, not Lingzi Tang or Depsang Plains. That "Aksai Chin" was divided between Kashmir and Tibet, called the "West Aksai Chin" and "East Aksai Chin" respectively. The Tibetan part is now called Changthang plateau, but it is indistinguishable from West Aksai Chin. That note is from 1896. Between then and 1899, the British changed their tune. To them, Kashmir frontier was a chess piece, to be traded for something more important. They had already given away Shahidulla to create an eastern version of the Wakhan Corridor. They now wanted to trade West Aksai Chin in return for China relinquishing its suzerainty over Hunza. But China didn't agree. So the offer lapsed. In any case the British suggestions for a political compromise could not significantly prejudice the Indian case since the offer lapsed and concessions made in the course of negotiations do not rank as admission of rights. For now, I think it makes sense to make the same edits that you have done to other Wikipedia pages that make the same connection namely, Aksai Chin, Sino-Indian border dispute and Sino-Indian War. I think the problem is that we are all being dishonest. We cite Google Books snippet views just as any other book. This gives the misleading impression that we have actually read the books being cited. It is impossible for other editors to verify what we saw in the snippets and the errors stay there for ever. Sanatan Sansta

Request WIKI Oversight. The author is misreading or reading into news articles to further then notion that the Sansta is behind the murders of those mentioned on the Wikipage. I have no idea who the Sansta are, neither do I care for their ideology. However, in an effort to tar them with the same brush @TheDiscoverer or Vasco is making false and specious conclusions using contradictory newsreports. While it is customary to use words like "allege" or "suspected" @TheDiscoverer uses language that is conclusive. Maybe @Kautilya3, an India native who is aware of these topics should look into them, with the oversight of another wiki editor or two. @The Discoverer has been warned before for blanking out sections and biases shown in favor catholic reporting. It does not matter who is wrong, the point we only have access to news that everyone can see, so multiple editors should view the same articles cited to see if they say what is being interpreted by @TheDiscoverer. No, there is no edit war going on. However, if several constructive edits are undone instantly with a vague summary, as you have done, then I guess I am entitled to revert and ask you to explain.

As per the WP:3RR, since 6 March till the present, I have only performed two reverts, with a gap of 36 hours between them. This could hardly be considered as gaming 3RR. Hello Elizium23, I am adding sections about saints and causes to the articles of various dioceses with information taken from List of saints of India, which has references. I am confident that all this information is verifiable. My request to you is: please allow me to add the sections for now without references, instead of reverting my additions, could you please put 'citation needed' tags wherever you would like a reference? I will come back later and add the references. If you are not satisfied in a few days, feel free to delete the content.

I'm sorry to say that I find your summary reversal of my additions to be unnecessarily severe, and I would prefer if you could point out exactly which candidate that I have mentioned you think really needs to be cited. For instance, most of the article Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Calcutta is unsourced, but you have issue with me stating that St. Theresa of Calcutta lived and served in Calcutta?

The Discoverer, I saw that Maximilian Kolbe allegedly made a visit once, and then a list of 7 bare names with no context. This is prime breeding ground for more unsourced material to be added. Don't resort to reductio ad absurdum because you know there is more than this that needs to be cited. This is the same as towns that list "Notable people" from that town, or colleges listing "Notable alumni". It is unreasonable of you to request that I tag-bomb a dozen articles with just as many maintenance tags because you can't provide the sources. Elizium23, I get your point, but I assure you I am not trying to escape the burden of providing sources. Isn't it also unreasonable of you to delete only the content added by me while leaving the rest of the content in the articles that have not been cited? If you uniformly apply your reasoning, you should blank Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Thrissur, Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Irinjalakuda and Roman Catholic Diocese of Sivagangai which do not have a single inline citation. Hi, I see you have added references. So far so good. A couple of things may apply now. Per MOS:HON, we do not use honorifics in articles except to discuss them, so you will need to remove e.g. "Servant of God", "Blessed", "Rev.", "O.C.D.", "O.F.M." and the like, leaving the names only. Elizium23, I have expanded the bare references. I think that in the context of a list of saints, beatified people, venerables, servants of God, etc. it makes sense to retain these titles, otherwise the reader won't know which person is at which level. The alternative is to remove the honorifics from before individual names and add them as sub-headings in the list. The post-nominal abbreviations remain to be removed. There was a nugget I once read in a BBC article : "With its repeated transgressions, Beijing has underscored Indian vulnerabilities and the potential costs of challenging China. I'm just happy that people are editing these topics and putting forward the Indian point of view as well. Editing the Indian Naval Ensign article

Hi "The Discoverer". I've seen you've erased my edits on the most recent alteration of the Indian Naval Ensign, in favor of an edit made by you. Yet, when I re-edit that sub-section, you repeal that alteration, saying that it has to be concise. I'd like to make a clarification here.

{1}. You've reverted the sentence referring to the PMO's announcement of the ensign's upcoming alteration, saying there is no use. I disagree, since mentioning the ensign's revision, without stating the proper reason why, would not be nice. For example, the reason for the change back to the 2004-2022 ensign is mentioned - Indian sailors had a hard time distinguishing the old ensign from the sky and the ocean, from afar. Likewise, the current change to the present design (2022-present) also has a reason - the Indian Navy and the Government of India wanted a new design that "would dispose of the colonial past" and would "befit India's rich maritime heritage". That is a valid reason. Mentioning a change without a reason wouldn't exactly be appealing to readers. The decision to change the ensign has to be mentioned, since it is an event which is related to the ensign's history.

{2}. You said that you've re-edited the entire section just to make it concise, but the use of the word "concise" doesn't exactly apply here. The paragraph is neither convoluted nor long, and it is not difficult for readers to comprehend. The word "concise" would have been meaningful had the paragraph been too long too read, but it is not. There was no need to make that edit.

For good reason, please stop stop making these edits, which solicits neither any necessity nor urgency. Please leave the paragraph as it is. It already is good, has no pressing necessity for change and is already sufficient in information. Any further reverting of the paragraph in favor a version of yours would spark an edit conflict, which is profoundly unnecessary. Kindly understand. Thanks.
