Ardern's cat edit

I also don't think the cat is particularly relevant, but it simply doesn't fit other sections like religious views or family. Arguably, maybe the cat is a family member, but I think it's less of a problem to have a marginal sections than to use such debatable & potentially misleading language. --Tarnoob (talk) 14:31, 1 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

July 2021 edit

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because your username, TheMightyAllBlacks, does not meet our username policy. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have selected a new username that meets the username policy guidelines, which are summarized below.
Per the username policy, a username should represent an individual and should not: represent a group or organization; be promotional; be misleading (such as indicating possession of special user rights or being a "Bot" account (unless approved for such purposes)); be offensive or otherwise disruptive. However, a username that contains the name of a organization and also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87" is allowed, though, among others, the guidance on conflict of interest and the policy of paid-contribution disclosure are relevant.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our username policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you wish for your existing contributions to carry over under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" from their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a change of name request.
  3. Your requested new username cannot already be in use. Therefore, please check the list here to see if a name is taken prior to requesting a change of name.
Appeals: If, after reading the guide to appealing blocks you believe you were blocked in error, then you may appeal this block by adding {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this notice. Schwede66 04:48, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

{{unblock|I have had this user name for 7 years and only when I comment on a talk page does this happen. Please give me a proper reason. Thanks}}

Sorry for the hassle. Two problems here. Your user name must not purport to represent a group of people, and neither can it represent an organisation. You can read up on the finer details if the follow links in the above. To get unblocked is straightforward; just pick a user name that is within policy and follow the instructions above. Schwede66 19:17, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
With respect how does it " represent a group of people, and neither can it represent an organisation"? The All Backs is the globally recognised team name of my country's NZ National rugby team New_Zealand_national_rugby_union_teamhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_national_rugby_union_team. It does'nt represent any group or organisation. It is a personal support username from a fan, which I have been using for 7 years. I think the demand to change it because it breaks that will there needs clarification which bit it is breaking. Thanks --TheMightyAllBlacks (talk) 03:13, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Can someone please answer a question I have asked before? Why am I being blocked for having a username that is just a fan name for a rugby team. I am not representing any corporation, group or any other weirdo thing and have had it for over 7 years with no issues. An actual answer would be helpful. I have never vandalised a page. I hardly ever edit them. Just a reason. Thanks TheMightyAllBlacks (talk) 22:56, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

As noted, this is only a username block. No one has said you committed vandalism. To answer you, you were given a clear answer above. Your username suggests that this account is associated with the team- and even if it somehow wasn't, it suggests a group of people("Blacks"). You probably got away with it this long because you are an irregular contributor(which is fine, just saying) and it wasn't noticed. The username policy when you created your account is pretty much as it is now, not allowing such usernames. If you want to indicate your status as a fan of the team, you should have a username like "AllBlacksFan" or "FanOfAllBlacksTeam" or something like that. Please propose a new username. 331dot (talk) 23:04, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Edit: And it hasn't escaped my notice that it only happened after I edited a Jacinda Ardern article, by someone who is obviously biased towards her, given their editing history. TheMightyAllBlacks (talk) 22:56, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Prior requests must remain until the block is removed, per WP:BLANKING. 331dot (talk) 23:44, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry that you weren't satisfied with my answer, but I'm not sure what you are looking to hear. 331dot (talk) 23:45, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your time and consideration. I trust any other users that reference Man united or the Yankees or Liverpool, or England rose, or res socks will be given as equal treatment --TheMightyAllBlacks (talk) 00:19, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for that last comment. It was churlish. How do I change it to "AllBlackDomination"?

OK. Will try to be more sensitive to other countries stupid irrational race issues, which are stupidly dumb and racist.

your new GreatestRugbyTheAllBlacks

Is that woke enough?

Request reason:

My Apologies. I suggested a new user name, then realised it might be as bad as others seem to see it as my current. Rather than add a new one I edited it. Not sure if this is bad or not. Basically can I just have "GreatestRugbyTheAllBlacks" and get on with life, as am getting a bit tired of other countries race issues? Thanks Edit: And I am not putting "fan", because I am not 12 years old

I don't see a problem with this username, as long as the user makes one tiny change. edit

He's correct that he's used this for years without complaint. Since we usually get any clearly over-the-line names before they even edit, the longevity with which the community has permitted it suggests that laches estoppel applies to any block, i.e., we've lost our chance to complain.

It's the widely-used nickname for New Zealand's national men's rugby team. No problem there. I've never been there, and I know this.

And there are other similar usernames. Looking around I found unblocked (if unused) usernames like New York Yankees Forever and HabsMTL.

So, per those, I suggest to this user that he need only depluralize his name, perhaps to something like TheMightyAllBlacksNZ? If you're willing to do that I suggest that any admin should unblock once the change goes through. Daniel Case (talk) 02:35, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

I don't have an opinion about the username, but I do take issue with uncivil and defensive comments like "... will try to be more sensitive to other countries [sic] stupid irrational race issues, which are stupidly dumb and racist" and "Woke enough...?". Those are neither necessary nor constructive. Matuko (talk) 05:39, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I don't see where anyone complained that it was a race issue, either. I'm aware that it's the nickname of the team. I don't see a problem with the Yankees name example, but "HabsMTL" could be a team account. I had already suggested that they add "fan" to their name but they don't seem to have cared for that idea. However, I'm content with however this is handled. 331dot (talk) 07:06, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

The only reason I thought it was a race thing was this comment above

" Your username suggests that this account is associated with the team- and even if it somehow wasn't, it suggests a group of people("Blacks")"

I apologise if I got the wrong end of the stick.

I am cool with having NZ added to the end, but am unsure how to change.

Will do a request --TheMightyAllBlacks (talk) 08:03, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the confusion, the exact name of the group is not relevant, it would be the same if it were "whites", "asians", "europeans", etc. 331dot (talk) 08:04, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

That must suck man. I actually feel for you. I can't imagine living in a country where colour means people and not just a colour :(

Thanks heaps mate, and have a good weekend.

Actually no.

I am not having that. Was cool for a bit. But thought about it. Our national football team is called the "all whites" (Again uniform colour). Our Female rugby team is called the "Black Ferns". Our cricket team is called the "Black caps". It basically goes on and on with black and white depending on sports code.

I am ok and thank you for that. But does this mean any other kiwi referencing the others can't?
