hey, it seems the ucr "featured article drive" is starting out well. i was thinking for the UC wikiproject, it might be a good idea to post an inquiry or just announce the project on all the UC talk pages, and recruit from there. It seems to me that most of the UC pages are pretty dead, if we have anything to be gratefull to UCRG/IB for, it's for the community that developed in opposition to them.--Amerique ^dialectics 08:13, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Looks good. I was wondering if "ranking" the UC articles might be getting ahead of ourselves at this point. Also, participants might want to use such a "ranking" system to justify focusing attention on UCB and UCLA articles. I think it would be better to start out with a dry list of UC articles, which, if they were to be ranked, should be done initially in order of apparent work to be done as opposed to the supposed "importance" of the subject... actually, there is a lot of work to be done on all of them, some maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to rank these articles at all? Anyway, it seems our next move would be to announce the project on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals. If you want to do that I'll post announcements/invitations to the project to all the UC wiki talk pages, maybe with something like "UM and MSU are currently the only featured articles on public universities in the US on Wikipedia. Re: Good article status for UCR, I don't really know, but I wouldn't mind initiating a peer review to determine how to best improve the article in the meantime. (Should we query the talk page?) I think the referencing format needs a lot of work, and the text of the main campus section is incomplete. I don't really like how things under "Academics" and "Student Life" are currently organized, but the content that's there is ok.

I think your recommendations for phrasing the proposal for the wiki project are good. Let me know once that's posted and I'll use that language in the UC talk page announcements. It seems I have reason to be paranoid around here. Anyway, it may be too early to say this, but the IB:Amerigue SOCK episode seems to have passed. Still no admin action on the IB account, which is discouraging, but I'll continue to check on his user page anytime he (or another sock) posts anything.

Anyway, lets wait til next week before posting the WikiProject. I was thinking it might be better to just create the project base page directly, using the "WikiProject" template, along with announcing the project to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals, and then do UC talk page recruiting. Once we have 5-10 active participants I guess we could hold a meeting as to how we would like the project to work and what we would like to do immediately. Hey, my page got raked this morning by admin of all "Fair Use" images per WP images policy. I am currently displaying your Merrill College pic for UCSC (I am a Merrill alum :-D, and thanks) and was wondering if you happen to have any more UCSC pics that you would be willing to share as GNU free or Public domain works?

Would it be alright if I uploaded your Merrill College image to Wikimedia commons with credit to you? Public domain photos are usually put there and can be categorized into University of California, etc.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lists of flops

Hi, you withdrew your nomination of the "Lists of flops" and speedy closed the discussion for reason of "Withdrawn by nom". However, as there was already one "delete" vote and a number of the "keep" votes urged keeping not just on procedural grounds (bundled nomination), but on the merits of the several articles, would it not be more appropriate to let the AfD run its coursee? A similar situation has arisen at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of bisexual people and the decision was to let the AfD run its course. -- Black Falcon 19:44, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Cheeky usage note

I see you everywhere! :D

That note on usage from the VT massacre page was mine. It born from a marriage of pique and frustration very early this morning. While most Americans were still in bed, the Britons were busy incrementally remaking the articles related to the VT shootings in the Queen's English. The final straw came with a condescending edit summary by an overconfident Canadian.

The intention wasn't to put the Commonwealth people off from editing. It was to put them off from "correcting" spelling and putting full-stops outside of quotes faster than the (small, at that hour) American contingent could set things right again. I put the note on the VT main page, the VT talk page, and the massacre main page. If you could, please leave my version of the note up on VT-proper's pages so no one has to explain why we're getting so anal about the dialect-creep. The note was starting to get in the way on the massacre page though, and I'm glad you came up with something that worked better. --Dynaflow 23:58, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

He strikes me as a guy who starts each morning with a nice, heaping spoonful of crazy in his coffee. I made the mistake of reverting his edits and filling out the form at WP:SSP first before heading over to WP:AIV, but I won't be making that mistake again. I assume that it'll take me approximately thirty seconds to put up sockpuppet tags on his latest avatar and file a report with AIV, and then he can be bludgeoned with the banning bat by whatever sysop is on duty within another minute or so.

I noticed that my SummerThunder report went straight to the head of a rather lengthy AIV line when I submitted it. He certainly seems to be a popular fella 'round those parts. --Dynaflow 03:35, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

I've done some poking around on teh Internets, and I think I've figured out who "夏雷" is. Well, I don't have a name as of yet, but I have a probable age, a location, a couple of e-mail addresses and a cell phone number (I used to work for a private investigation service, and I am bored -- a deadly combination). I'm really not sure what I'd do with this information, but it's nice to know that the smug bastard isn't as anonymous as he thinks he is. Y'know, I can't say I disagree with his politics (judging by his posts to Digg, cNet, and elsewhere), but the way he goes about promoting his views is incredibly obnoxious and immature in the extreme. Well, that was an interesting game of whack-a-mole. Without running afoul of the no-personal-information thing, I have reason to believe that SummerThunder is a college dropout in his mid-thirties who most likely acquired his bitterness towards PRC Internet practices while he was teaching English in China, possibly in Sichuan.
