buidhe thank you for thinking about me, but I truly think I am probably not a good candidate. I don't have the technical skills to do anything other than what I already know how to do. I am also already overwhelmed with the volume of work that I see that needs to be done and cannot figure out how I will manage to do what I want to do in the time I have left on this earth. Lastly, and probably most important, I swore when I retired that I would never again do anything that required me to police other people or their actions. Sending some overdue thanks

Dear SusunW, I would like to sincerely extend my gratitude and many thanks for your help on Shaku Atre's article. I was the article creator, and when I saw that the article was nominated for deletion, my heart sank. I've had similar experiences in the past with articles I've created about persons from South Asian countries. As you might be well aware, many of those countries generate a lot of spam on Wikipedia, and hence the region's topics are often scrutinised and understandably patrolled. And for this reason, I would like to sincerely thank you for improving the article and expanding it so much so that the outcome of the discussion was a resounding "Keep".

I usually like to keep my participation minimalistic and focused – usually focused on Women in Red, Requested Articles (Biographies, mainly), and lately, I've begun focusing on persons with quite large WorldCat holdings or significantly large VIAF clusters for their works and contributions. I welcome you to check some of the other articles I've created in 2022 after returning from a lengthy Wikibreak. I wish you a good day, wherever you are on this wonderful planet of ours! Spinster300 In truth, I spend very little time at AfD. It exhausts me. That being said, rarely an article there comes across my radar like Atre's. Reading the nomination was just completely perplexing to me. One does not evaluate a part-time professor as an academic, so clearly her notability lay elsewhere. An examination of sources proved that to be the case, but admittedly, as with many women of her period, finding sourcing is not likely to rely on a simple Google search. Thank you for creating it. May I request your opinion on my entry at Template talk:Authority control? I wouldn't wish to be seen as WP:Canvassing, but I definitely think that the additions of the Portuguese, Slovak, and Slovene national libraries in authority control on Wikipedia may prove beneficial in such circumstances as Atre's and many other such articles like her's. So far, the request has lay dormant for there is no participation from the community regarding it. I would appreciate it if you can find the time to give it a read.

A final solution?

Following up on our exchange at the Teahouse yesterday, I thought I'd put some stuff here as you said you liked things spelled out and having them here will be more accessible than some Teahouse archive. I hope you won't think this is patronising.

• Regarding links to documents, you know that the digital object identifier is the key these days. What you don't know, and is extremely useful on Talk Pages, is that they can be used as Interwiki links. Specifically, for that book chapter we discussed, you copy/pasted https://www-degruyter-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/document/doi/10.3138/9781487542122-015/html, knowing that it wouldn't actually work as a link to the document because the link goes to the library page and requires a sign-in. However, it is simple (at least in the source editor) to edit the pasted link to get [[doi:10.3138/9781487542122-015]]. Note where I've cut out the actual doi but inserted a colon and double square brackets. The latter is vital: this is now an Interwiki link, not a URL link, rendering as doi:10.3138/9781487542122-015. Click on this to confirm it goes directly to the correct chapter. As an Interwiki link, the pipe trick works fine, so we can use [[doi:10.3138/9781487542122-015| chapter's link]] to render as chapter's link.
• The above hints at a cunning "final solution" to your original question. We would never use a link like that for the body text of an article but why not do so in citations? We previously reached the suggestion for a chapter reference. That has the perhaps confusing double-doi. So how about this version? This "hides" the chapter DOI as a piped interwiki link and removes the confusion, with the added advantage that readers know that clicking on a blue-linked chapter title will get them where they need to be. Link rot is prevented, as usual, by using the doi system (rather than Google books, which is less reliable although sometimes useful).

Mike Turnbull That is brilliant! Thank you for both solving the original question and for allowing me to see how you captured the doi identifier. I learned how to do that with Gale, and this is similar, but again, much of Wiki technology is not intuitive for me. A word to the wise, DOI is not necessarily used outside of the US/UK. In fact, they are often depreciated in the "rest of the world" just like urls. One of the reasons I save every single link in archive.org/archive.today is that it is typical in probably most places for the links to rot on a schedule, but that schedule varies. I always provide links if available, because that allows me and any other researcher to reverify the information.

It honestly takes a village to edit on here, because there is no single answer to many things. Ultimately, one must make a wide enough network to be able to draw on other people's expertise. I think often that those who research and write (like me), don't communicate in the same language as those who code, meaning that I don't understand why coders do the things that they do that impact the writing that I do. Would that there were a translator that could help us both understand how changes impact the other. Perhaps you can also solve another situation?

(The work routinely misspells Sillge's name as Silge.)", but generates an error message to this page which says that it is redundant to insert a "." because the default is the ".". The problem is that you are mis-using a parameter |postscript= that was never intended for the purpose of adding a comment like that (see {{cite book}}). Fortunately, you can achieve the same thing very simply, namely by putting the comment after the closing double braces and before the ref-end tag, as here.

Mike Turnbull thank you again. I appreciate your help. It is yet another example of the disconnect between writers and coders. (I did try to read that link, but honestly, the explanation makes no sense to me. In academia, a postscript is an explanatory note, not whatever the coders are attempting to explain in that incomprehensible jargon regarding display.) I have always used technology as a tool to produce writing (I bought my first personal computer in 1980 when writing a book) and later with the advent of the internet as a tool to facilitate research. The truth is, I don't care how it works, only that it makes writing easier. When it makes writing more difficult, technology is very, very frustrating. I do appreciate your graciousness in allowing me to query you further. Rosiestep LOL, I am really, really slow, but in part because her maiden surname is probably wrong and I am guessing is Bichsel. According to the 1900 census she was born in June 1870 in Missouri with both parents born in France. My first clue that her surname was probably not accurate as Bischell seems to be a German spelling. Her death record gives her father's name as Louis Bischell] but her marriage record April 1891 shows the surname as Bicksel, also a German spelling. They married in Winona, Minnesota and often visted there per newspaperarchive.com. Searching for Bicksel/Bichsel I found this, which refers to Maggie and Lena Bichsel having been in Glencoe. Which ties in to this obituary for Elisabeth Bichsel formerly of Glencoe and who I suspect was Margaret's mother. M. J. died in 1921 and they also had a daughter Ellen Margaret who died at 6 months old. I see you found her obit, so no point in duplicating that info. SusunW (talk) 16:50, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

Rosiestep Interesting and I think you are right. The page on the dad lists a daughter Caroline, who is likely to be the Lena Bichsel who was with Margaret in Glencoe. What's weird is I don't see the mom in that group, but her obit clearly said she was to be buried in Glencoe, but I don't see any daughters with the surname Smith, which is who the mom was living with in 1906. Thanks Lugnuts! For what it's worth, I live in Mexico and am often blocked from European web sites, UK especially bad. One of the reasons I always save stuff in wayback is in the hope that things are more widely available. I had no clue that it happened to Europeans in reverse. I am curious if they tell of their own marriage in the intro to the book. As it wasn't published until two years after their marriage. Please can I ask for help tracking down dates for Lydia de Crescenzo?

Hello - I hope it's OK to ask, (and thanks so much for your help with Mary Lou Spiess). Please could you use your Newspapers.com sub to see what you can find about Lydia de Crescenzo? I've found plenty of good stuff about her career on Newspaperarchive, and some key biographical details, but literally not a single thing to suggest what her dates might be. As she was helping her father run a business in 1939, I'm guessing she was at least 20 then (so born late 1910s) and the odds are that she's passed. Newspaperarchive dries up after 1977, so I am guessing she retired soon after that, and I suspect there may be a married/unmarried name thing going on too. Mabalu very hard one. First, we have no clue what her maiden name was. De Crescenzo is definitely an Italian and not a Spanish-origin surname, so that makes it harder to use the typical databases I use. What I found doesn't add much. Family left Paris when she was a teenager. (Thus she was probably born 1920-1925, if by teenager we mean thir"teen"-nine"teen"). Husband was a physician, daughters were Nicoletta and Rossella. Family lived on the outskirts of the city. I don't speak Italian, but perhaps Camelia.boban can help or can put you in touch with someone from Wikidonne who might search Italian sources. She definitely seems to have made a great effort to avoid disclosing her age at all points which makes it tricky to even come up with a definite half-decade. Reminds of the time I "nearly" got shipped to France by my brothers. Let's put little Asareel in a box with some chocolate and her favorite toy and load her on a truck to be shipped across the border to France. Luckily it was only a few miles away and the little ruse was found out before the truck even made it very far out of town, still, what an unexpected adventure (lol). My Papa wasn't too happy and I still hear my grandmother scolding my brothers in a mix of Yiddish and Italian. How about changing "...that Ukrainian lesbian and human rights activist Olena Shevchenko, " to " ...that Ukrainian LGBT and women's rights activist Olena Shevchenko, "? That way it's clear that she's a rights activist specializing in women's and LGBT rights; otherwise it either reads as if:

• she's an activist specializing in "lesbian and human rights", which she is, but it's implying either that lesbians are not human, and/or that lesbian rights are not human rights
• she's a lesbian and a human rights activist, which is, of course, also true, but not really the most descriptive; she's not just a human rights activist who happens to be a lesbian, she's specifically an activist for LGBT rights --GRuban (talk) 15:24, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

The deer was really that tiny. We noticed by a short scream I wouldn't have thought such a little creature can produce, then it stood there frozen for long enough for me to take the pic, then jumped towards the trees, looking drowned in the meadow. - Adam, Ian and I have a nice teamwork going for opera singers, just for the one you reviewed I wanted Tim's pic, for various reasons including Cosima Wagner. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:26, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

Glad we figured it out and I learned something technical from the review. Fortunately after I transferred it to commons someone else came along and did all the gnoming to integrate the picture. Hi SusunW, following the success at FAC of Corry Tendeloo, I started work on her predecessor Betsy Bakker-Nort, who turned out to be another completely forgotten giant, mentored by the still well-known pioneer Aletta Jacobs. Edwininlondon Very happy you asked and very glad to look at her. I did the GA for Jacobs several years ago, which led me to the stolen records of the archives of the International Archives for the Women's Movement, which I am happy to see you found to tie in Bakker-Nort's works recovery! Eventually that work led me to my first FA when I discovered that the French feminist archives containing the evidence of the Inter-Allied Women's Conference had also been stolen. Some day, I hope to discover what happened to the Belgian and Luxembourger feminist archives which were also looted by the Nazis, but those have proved even more elusive. In truth, I think I learn more by writing than I ever impart to a reader, which is why I enjoy the research and writing part so much. I discovered her while working on WiR's women's studies editathon and I knew I wanted to tell her story. So glad you enjoyed learning about her too, she is definitely a remarkable woman. You're welcome. Honestly I feel the same way when I'm writing here. I didn't know much about the history behind Burgoyne Bridge or Morningstar Mill until I started looking into it, which was absolutely fascinating. I think I took a good picture of the bridge in the first article too :) I'm not that great at photography, so I was proud that I was able to do that. I will say that I'm still working on my own research skills and expanding content here, but I'm improving as time goes on. Practice makes perfect, or at least as close to it as you can get. My mental to-do list (on top of my actual one) has both locker room culture and purity culture. The latter isn't a "true" blue link because it's a redirect. Anyways, I've always had a hard time actually figuring out how to even approach those topics. If you're good at feminism-related research, maybe you could take a go at it?
