MindMate edit

MindMate is a mobile-first patient data platform with a focus on the baby boomer generation.[1] Through their mobile app, users get access to advice around proper nutrition, physical exercises and mental exercises.[2] The platform was inspired by the care experience of co-founder Roger Arellano, who cared for seven years for his grandfather with Alzheimer’s disease. Together with Patrick Renner and Susanne Mitschke, Roger founded the company in 2015.[3]

History edit

After the grandfather of MindMate’s Co-Founder Roger was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he and his family tried everything to slow the disease. They kept Roger’s grandfather active with daily tasks, such as grocery shopping, making regular phone calls, walking around the neighbourhood, helping his wife cook dinner, playing with his grandkids. While the Alzheimer’s Condition of his grandfather worsened, Roger and his family attended help groups and forums. He quickly realised that other families struggle with the very same thing: keeping their loved-ones with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia active.[4]

MindMate is now helping not only people living with a form of cognitive decline, but the whole baby boomer generation, to help them improve their overall health.[5]

Reception edit

Reviews edit

The mobile app is described by SeniorDirectory as the ultimate in dementia apps.[6] Other industry magazines, such as Seniors Matter[7], Kim Komando[8], Dementia Carer Voices, Carehome.co.uk[9], or My Aging Parent[10] name MindMate as a great tool for older adults and those with a dementia.

Research edit

The University of Glasgow recently conducted a study about the MindMate app to see the effect on people with early Alzheimer's disease, which was in corporation with the NHS Scotland. The study found that individuals with early Alzheimer's disease, who use MindMate are more independent in their daily lives and can remember more things, than those who were not using the app.[11]
