Thanks for contacting me. I was waiting until I had a chance to see the book myself at a store to write it down as a source, but in the mean time, I've added an online source instead. The numbers differ because I think Guinness uses a different method of determining a film's gross and/or adjusts for inflation. If you do a simple Google search, you should be able to see the $7.42 figure on a variety of sites, including the Guinness home page.
