My Block edit

I was mistaken for a bot and as such mistakenly blamed for socking, something I did not play a role in. Currently, I believe that I have been blocked as a result of one of the administrators mistaking my behavior for that of a robot. I understand that as Wikipedia is a website that is frequently vandalized, administrators have to constantly look out for potential vandalism and possible bots. However, I am legitimately not a robot, and I am willing to do whatever may be needed to prove such. If filling out a couple captchas would be helpful, I could do that. After I have been unblocked, I wish to help edit Wikipedia in several different sections. More specifically, I would like to do things such as add in tables where they might be needed, cite content that has been left without a citation, and help add more content overall in areas that Wikipedia may not have as much. As stated previously, I will do anything needed to prove that I'm not a robot. Upon further reflection, I also realized why I may have been mislabeled; when I had made an edit to the list of political ideologies, there was a large, unfinished section created exclusively for feminist ideologies. When I noticed a clear case of 'bad faith' editing, I tried to fix it, though my changes were perhaps not the best, and I think my have encouraged my mistaken block. Adding further to what I have said, while I do not know if administrators can see it, I have been using Wikipedia with this account on both my phone and computer, further proof I am not a robot. I think I have used my desktop as well, but I will have to check later. Also, please look at my edit history for further evidence as for why this was a 'good faith' edit if needed. SuperChris, you were not mistaken for a robot; that's not the issue. Gilliam, can you comment on this? I don't see how the sole edit allows the conclusion that this is a sockpuppet (of whom?). Huon (talk) 18:48, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Huon, do you know why exactly I was blocked, then? If it's not mistakenly being labeled a sockpuppet, then I don't know why. I looked through the blocking guidelines, and as best as I can discern, that seemed to be what it is. Is there anything else I might need to do, if the cause is different than what I thought it was?
The block must have been the result of perceived coordination between SuperChris and 126.94.236.94. I have unblocked SuperChris.– Gilliam (talk) 23:43, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to WikiProject Portals edit

The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.

You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.

There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.

Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore.

It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them.

The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.

A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

Let's do this.

See ya at the WikiProject!

Your suggestion for a list of abandoned cryptocurrencies edit

Over at Wikipedia:Requested lists, you requested that a list of abandoned cryptocurrencies be created. I recently created it and wanted to let you know here. MarkZusab (talk) 22:18, 12 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much edit

The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.

By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.

Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.

If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience.

Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   22:31, 25 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
