Hello John,
I just saw your piece on wikipedia bias. I've been a fan of yours for years and you really turned me onto libertarian ideas. I used to edit wikipedia for several years before deleting my account. The main problem with wikipedia is that sociopaths who want, more than anything, to control what people are allowed to see and think, will devote their entire lives to gaining privileges at wikipedia in order to enforce their worldview. Normal people just don't have the time or inclination to spend 40+ hours a week monitoring and editing wikipedia, creating sockpuppet accounts, and navigating the toxic political environment here. It isn't just that they've altered the rules to benefit their worldviews. The rules don't even matter. They are selectively enforced to the point where the rules are only tools used to delete dissent and ban ideological opponents.
I've seen some areas in wikipedia ban people as "sockpuppet accounts" after making only a single post. Their "proof" was a single edit that someone else, at some point, had made in the past who they'd gotten banned for another ridiculous reason.
The other problems are just too numerous to mention. For example, there are clearly some accounts being paid to post here on a full time basis. In fact, it would be crazy to think they aren't. Wikipedia is the #1 search results for most topics. If your goal is to control what people think then paying someone to post here for years and gain administrative or arbcom positions is actually quite cheap when compared to how much is spent on political campaigns. Reddit has a similar problem with "power users."
How much would it be worth to the DNC for wikipedia to kill the Hunter Biden laptop story until after the election? Easily millions of dollars. And that's just the value for suppressing one story. Think of the value they get for brainwashing people about global warming, every page about a modern political person, every page about politics and every conceivable political issue.
In fact, there is a good chance that you'll never even see this message (even if this is a one-off account). As obscure as your talk page is, and the fact that I haven't broken any wikipedia rules, one of the hundreds of admins with a power complex might delete it based on a gross misinterpretation of the rules because, like I said, they simply can't stand the idea of people hearing things they disagree with. That's the driving motivation behind wikipedia.
Is wikipedia fixable? Probably not. You'd have to make talk pages immune from admin manipulation and stop all "page protections." You'd have to greatly cut down on the number of vague and unevenly enforced rules. You'd need wikipedia to pay a group of people to root out systemic bias that is too ingrained in the system to be removed normally. The easiest fix would probably be to require real ID and range ban all IPs from Washington D.C., New York City, Portland, Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco and L.A - any place where you'll find left-wing groups likely funded by a certain Hungarian billionaire.
