Charles- Since you have already sent your review to me, I can use this space to say thank you. I appreciate your feedback. The article has been difficult to research, but you are spot-on with your comments. I definitely have a lot of work to get done before taking it live in a few weeks.

There are very few negative things I can say about your article (pat yourself on the back). Most of what I will say is completely subjective, so use your own discretion.

Were the Germans in that area of Texas very religious(ie. What religion did they practice?). Did that inform their decision to be passive, or to support the Union? I only ask because, in what I have learned about the German-Russian immigrants to Canada, religion factored heavily into why they came and dictated the character of the communities they created.

In the first couple of sections you use the word apathy or apathetic repeatedly. It stuck out to me while reading. Minor note, but you might chose a synonym. I only made a couple of grammar corrections. I moved the period in the third paragraph of the Disagreement and Violence section ("dubious. charges"). I also deleted the word "emerged" in the first sentence of the Legacy section ("germans emerged" instead of "germans were emerged").

I think your article works beautifully as a piece of historical research. Stylistically, I think that the amount of background information you provided made the portion about the actual engagement seem comparatively minor. The average Wikipedia reader (as they exist in my mind- not necessarily anywhere else), who maybe found the page hyperlink surfing, might find the background daunting. I am not trying to say you have that much superfluous information, but you might try paring it down just a wee bit.

I agree with your thoughts on partial ratings, so I am going to give you a 4.5. You have clearly worked very hard. Hefferjd (talk) 02:41, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
