Infobox picture

Its true that we don't have an ideal picture. The panorama is a good one, I'd be happy with that in the infobox if the aspect ratio is sensible. The trouble with most exterior shots is that when taken from ground level, either tarmac and sky take up a fair proportion of the picture, or only a small part of the stadium is visible. The easiest way to take an elevated shot would be on the way to the ground from Great Ancoats St. If you walk down Pollard St. before a night match, as you branch right onto Ashton New Road you get a spectacular view of the stadium all lit up, from a slightly elevated position. But to do it justice would need a DSLR camera and a decent zoom lens. Oldelpaso (talk) 20:24, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Tim Berners Lee

Hello I see you deleted Tim Berners Lee from the Birmingham Science and Invention page without debate.

This is on the page to signify the importance of his two parents, both Brummies who also helped develop the first computers in Manchester. Time Berners Lee is a by-product of his parents and the fact he created something which has such strong connections with the work his parents carried out is extremely important. Before you remove something in future would you mind using the talk page to discuss it first so we can have a constructive debate, I've worked extremely hard to ensure the article in question is factual and IF i have included something wrong in your eyes I'd appreciate a polite and sensible debate rather than 'delete', 'undo', 'delete', 'undo' which so often destroys some very good work on Wikipedia. Montage for Manchester

Thank you for your comments. I think however that the ferris wheel should be kept as it looks really nice as the city's architecture. My image also made the city look more 'modern'. But because I would like to respect your work and ideas, I allow you to make a new montage that would contain all (same) images of my montage, and some images of your choice. (I think from your montage, the CIS Tower, 1 Angel Square, the Library and the Civil Justice Centre are the best imgs. Possibly. I'm not exactly thinking straight yet, it'll be a very long time until I can even attempt to have an objective view on it. Right now I'm still grinning like an idiot the whole time. Try asking for opinions on WT:WPF. What I reckon would make a better narrative though, is to do it as part of making a proper job of 2011–12 Manchester City F.C. season. Ok fine, I assume you are a City fan, no agenda against them at all, but I wonder if you actually read the whole section before you edited it. The points you have inserted, like the fact its nearer £340-350m rather than £400m & that it covers the whole Etihad Campus & not just the ground itself are covered lower down, so the article now largely repeats itself. With regards to the Italian section, this has been heavily edited by an Italian with a poor grasp of English, & therefore reads badly, with excessive detail. If you think the sections lack deatil - they will be expanded since there is a lot to happen - why not add the detail?

You couldn't move it because the target has more than one line of history (and that has to be a redirect to the page being moved). Palazzo architecture

Bastards!

In Sydney, all the older Palazzo style buildings were small, 1850s, 60s mainly. There were all demolished except one. All but one of those built by the famous Edmund Blacket are gone. Several were demolished overnight. However one by William Wardell just happened to be occupied by a Gentleman's Club. They bogged down and refused to accept the offer of new premises, and are still there. Sydney was a perfect Colonial and Victorian city. Not anymore. Amandajm (talk) 03:00, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Love the swags and turrets. Our James Barnet was very versatile and did that sort of thing, but in Sydney it is usually in beautiful golden sandstone, which erodes rather badly if the roofs and drainage are not taken care of.

The wonderful thing about being an architect in Australia at that time was that all the country towns were expanding. Barnet built courthouse all over the place.

There's a funny story! Barnet had to design the Bathurst and the Bangalore courthouses simultaneously. When he got out to Bathurst to inspect the work (it's 100 miles from Sydney) he discovered that they had laid the foundations of the Bangalore Court House.

It really is a tragedy of town planning! For Bathurst, rural city of the landed-gentry, he had designed a terribly staid and British building. For Bangalore, India, he had designed a sprawling building with a dome to rival the palace of the local prince, wide wings enclosing a court obviously planned to take a public water fountain, a telegraph office and post office with wide spreading verandahs and shallow steps. While the centre of the building is grand, the wings are plainly designed to serve the poor.

So Bangalore got stuck with a huge "palace of justice", and Bathurst got the most creative building that Barnet ever designed. Except that the post office was moved to a tidy "postal shop" and no-one ever loiters or lies in the shade of those verandahs as they would have done in Bangalore, and the court intended for a fountain is full of cars instead of people bathing their kids, and fetching jars of water.

I think that those two pics illustrate different aspects. The one is more Florentine and the other more Venetian. I've put them both into the Gallery. I can't help thinking that Walters must have been to both Venice and Florence on his way back from Constantinople in the 1830s. His work is very archaeologically correct. He must be one of the earliest architects turning out really convincing Renaissance Revival buildings. (I mean 15th century, rather than Palladian) Amandajm (talk) 04:07, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Update entire infobox according to the respective sources

Hi. When making updates to a infobox as you did here you should update the entire infobox and then the date at the bottom to let the reader know when it was updated. As you did now is considered disruptive since the bottom of infobox says "statistics correct as of 4 January" but there is stats in infobox more current than that. Infobox update

Hi. When making edits such as this please make sure that you update all parts of the infobox according to all of the sources and not just a small part. After your edit you say all stats are correct as of 18 January and that for example the attendance was the same as after 14 January which is not correct (you did not change attendance). Such edits are considered disruptive and may results in warnings and later in blocks so thought I should let you know that you must update entire infobox at the same time according to all sources. Somewhat, er.... unsuitable reference(!)

Hi,

I was looking up the reference cited in this edit because I wanted to clarify the phrasing of the sentence. While I was doing this, I noticed something rather unsuitable about the reference, namely that it appeared to be a very tongue-in-cheek comedy article.

Unless I'm missing something, this appears to be a rather strange choice? (Note; I've removed the reference for obvious reasons).

While I'm here, could you please clarify that original sentence for me? Is...

"The skyscraper was intended to be 50 storeys high rather than 47, because wind load tests showed it would sway too much because of its slender shape and its 'glass blade' facade overrun has been blamed for the noise."

...intended to mean...

"The skyscraper was reduced from its intended 50 storeys high to 47, because wind load tests..."?

At my talk page, you replied "Before you needlessly start having a go at me again I did not even write that sentence so go and take your childish accusations elsewhere."

I commented on the reference in the edit summary- something that was necessary to justify removing it- but you weren't named personally there. Despite ending that summary with "see talk", I decided there was no point in making a public issue of a silly but two-and-a-half year old mistake on the article talk page, so I pointed it out here instead. I don't think I was unreasonable or hostile in the way I drew this to your attention.

Since you made an issue of this yourself, the diff link I sent shows that you *did* add that sentence. (The only other explanation would be if you'd restored it from an earlier revision, but I didn't come across that).

Personally, I didn't think the sentence itself was a major problem, I just assumed it was unfortunate phrasing that needed clarification. I would have fixed it myself, but I'm not familiar with the subject and didn't want to make assumptions, so it made sense to at least give the writer a chance to explain what they meant.

If I use huffington post or other sources. Then will you consider the post about the Russian observer? Anyhow sorry about that, it's hard to know which sources to use that aren't 1)Propaganda 2) Tablolids and gossip, and or virus 3)Radical agenda papers... (Haretz, Fox, and Al Jazera, Xianhua).... Nintendo's revenue of Pokemon Go

I have removed this. A BLP is not the place to add minor criticisms from upset fans, players and coaches. If you think a particular incident is notable with reasons then it could possibly be added back in. It would probably need more than the usual whining that happens after every sports match (some sort of condemnation from up high at least). History Merge Note

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Victory Over Blindness a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Victory Over Blindness. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else.
