ClueBot NG Suggestion

Sorry about not getting back to you about your suggestion. I had read it, but didn't have the time then to write a response. I had meant to write a response later that day, but I ended up forgetting about it.

The short answer is that it already does factor in caps. The long answer is that that is just one of several hundred statistics that are put into the inputs of the artificial neural network. The biggest problem with just simply checking all-caps is that there are several instances like SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, NASA, SHIELD, COBOL, and several others; so the bot assigns a low weight to the caps metric because it realizes that it does not always mean vandalism. -- Cobi^(t|c|b) 18:42, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi, sorry to make that remark on the ClueBot Commons talkpage. As a person that is on 10+ wikis I know how hard it is to keep track of everything. I guess I didn't realise that it was down to you quite as much. I do know about SOPA, PIPA, ACTA & NASA. And now I think about it there are quite a few computer languages have an all caps in their names. LED is another case in point. Then you have the WP:CUTS. I see it would be a nightmare to program. Question, if you have time :) , Does ClueBot NG look for all caps on certain pages? e.g All caps.

Wikipedia:Help Desk

Oh. I see the prob Alpha Quadrant. I did notice this issue a week or so ago when I added the —. In that it appeared on an old version in my sandbox. I had no idea that subituting was a rule. I sadly don't think I can do anything about it. I'm currently preferencing my signature, which means we've come across a feedback loop in the MediaWiki software. I have SUBST: User:Starfleet Academy/Sig in my preferences, this in turn has SUBST: User:Starfleet Academy/SigSource, but then looses it substitution. I have an idea to fix this (two actually), but your not going to like plan: B.

In your user preferences, you should be able to add {{subst:User:Starfleet Academy/SigSource}} to the preferences box in user preferences, and that should do the trick. Regarding the lawsuit, I have been on Wikipedia for almost two years now, and so far CBS hasn't complained. I suppose you really can't copyright two words. A few months ago, I noticed that there is a company in Texas called Alpha Quadrant, Inc., so I don't think you have anything to worry about. Well, I hope that works for you. Yeah I could subst: /SigSource, but then nearly 700 characters of code are added everytime I sign. Plan B involves me creating /SigSource2 if I make any major changes to my sig. I tried another idea of mine, which was to template /SigSource onto /Sig subst: onto /SigPref. This went wrong somewhere because it just leaves {{SUBST:User:Starfleet Academy/SigSource}} in my prefs. Hmm, substitution chaining probably won't resolve the issue. I think the simplest way to fix this would be to shorten up the code. How about —  Starfleet Academy  Hail  ~~~   would that work for you? Best, Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 06:51, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

No I don't think so, sorry. It would have to be five '~' anyway. I would like to say that WP:SIG says nowhere that one has to substitute sigs. I won't make any major chages (colors, shape) without using /SigSource2 as I mentioned before. I used <includeonly></includeonly> so that the five tides wouldn't substitute unless used with a subst:. Non-substituted signatures are forbidden by WP:SIG#NT. Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 07:10, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Okay. *sob* I'll look into changing it then. I will try to fit it into the sig section of the prefs. I have to say it's a bit ostentatious isn't it? I liked the border, but the length was a nightmare with the whitespace wrapping. I first created it on Wikia, and yes it was a "mine is bigger than yours" with a few of the other users there. I had no idea it put strain on the servers, thanks for hightlighting this. I'll keep this ace up my sleeve for the next time they think there cleverer than me ha ha! I'll let you know when I've got my new sig up and running, and ask you what you think!

HELP! Starfleet, somebody has now apparently initiated a "discussion" about targeting my entry on Larry N. Jordan for DELETION and I don't know why this is, since I thought we had 10 days to get the kinks ironed out before it would be removed. I am struggling to edit this and comply with Wikipedia rules and now some guy with a handle named "Orange" somebody-or-other has done this.

Please look at the extensive revisions I have done with the entry today. I am still not sure how to put References at the bottom of the page. I would like to be done with this. Maybe you could step in and help me so we get this taken care of once and for all.

I also don't know why there are warnings at the top of my page that make false assumptions and accusations that I am so close to Mr. Jordan. What proof is there of this? He is a colleague whom I have admired and think deserves to be on Wikipedia but that's all. Can you help me?

Thanks for your support of my attempts to write a Larry N. Jordan page. I am wondering if you could help me further? I originally had a reference to an article/interview with Mr. Jordan that appeared recently in Billboard magazine, but somebody inexplicably removed this! Afterward, I have gotten a couple of messages from people suggesting I find at least one more published reference to him! Well, what's wrong with Billboard? It's big-league and it's the bible of the music industry! My problem is, I don't know how to create a footnote. I have asked several Wikipedia people for help but no one has assisted me. Would you be willing to do so? I tried to figure it out but can't!

There is also a quote from the article I'd like to include, as follows: According to Billboard:
