Headings and subheadings

Headings can be created like this:

Highlighted Lines or Paragraphs

Simply putting a space in front of a line will cause it to be highlighted in a box. The following box is created that way.

This is notewarthy.
And so is this; it will end up in the box on another line.
And you can also put a long rambling line, which, when the page is rendered in a viewer's browser will line-wrap.  That is, therefore, how you would so highlight and entire paragraph.  That is, a long sentence, or several sentences.

In a normal rendered page (i.e. not in a pea-green background), the background tends to be very light grey, and the highlighting light grey/blue.

Example link to a redirect page

Using the following will allow you to "stop" at the redirect page, allowing you to view its history and probably, in the extreme, change it from a redirect to a non-redirect page. The sample page I have chosen to view is "safety belt".

Do you have a reason for not simply saying, "There are three things you must know before editing:" ? When creating the welcome message, I wanted to make it as simple as possible and for the new user to not be overwhelmed by a ton of links. I think there are only three things they need to know before editing (copyright, notability, and NPOV). As far as the Wiki syntax, there is a lot that needs to be learned. There are a few questions that are asked over and over again in the help desk, which I would like to cover. (signing, images, searching). I also would like to mention the WikiToolbar that has the bold, italics, etc that may be useful to many people. As you can see I have a lot of ideas, but it's definitely not organized and so that's why I have abandoned the new welcome message. Legends of Motorsport

I read the article again and made some changes. A link you might want to read (Wikipedia:Avoid_weasel_terms), in addition to No original research. I had to remove a few lines b/c of NOR and weasel terms. I like to keep in mind that this is an encyclopedia, like Britannica, that will be read by many. It should present all the facts and not be like a fan site. Excessive linking is just a guideline, not policy. Lastly, many articles on WP are unfortunately plagued by these issues, so don't fret. :) -- Gflores

Some episodes therefore, really did not seem to suit the series title of Legends of Motorsport.

Okay, why did I put that there? If you look through the history, you will see that Matthead, who I suspect may have never seen the series, somehow mistook the meaning of my "all based around vintage automobile footage, mostly racing.", and changed it to "all based around vintage racing footage, mostly automobile". There (nearly?) always was a tenuous link to "Legends of Motorsport". For example, a somewhat bland description of "BMC: The British Motor Car" was documenting the company which produced the Mini-Cooper and other performance cars. But some of the episodes (including the current ones) were/are not about racing and only vaguely about motorsport. I can argue that my explanation was there to explain or affirm the paradox which most readers would notice. I have not put that back. I hope my other changes aren't edit-warring. I've added embedded comments to the article since it is possible. I'm not sure that's the best place to do that, but I thought I'd try.--SportWagon 23:36, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

You do appear to have lost the parts which indicate that most episodes were like a true trip back in time to seeing a (nearly) complete film from the time of the event, rather than just a standard narration-over-archival footage format. At the current time I've put half back. Does mentioning that most episodes were complete historical third-party publicity films somehow violate a policy? David Hobbs clearly states the episodes are such in some of the currently-running episodes. I think understanding that adds to a reader's understanding of the series--SportWagon 23:36, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

I think I may have misunderstood here. I got the impression that the episodes, in your opinion, were made to garner publicity (like advertising). Is it really a publicity film? If not, then that word probably doesn't need to be there. Gflores ^Talk 00:24, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Your introduction is fine enough, and splitting it into sections is most times the correct way of doing so, as it effectively shortened the length while keeping the same information in the article. Sudoku Thought -- add later, maybe

It seems to me, but I could be wrong, that there is a distinction between solving a puzzle given the assurance that it has a single unique solution, and analyzing an arbitrary partial grid to determine its number of possible solutions. The knowledge of a unique solution is (a small amount of) extra information. The application of set inference to candidate value elimination seems obvious. I believe it can be done for position elimination as well, but I've never thought of it at all formally that way. (Each value for each region would have a set of candidate positions, candidates of which can be eliminated until there is only one left; in practice, for difficult puzzles I do this by visual inspection of my contingencies on "cheat sheets"--that is, when simple ranging doesn't work or I overlook it).--SportWagon 23:22, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Note to SportWagon: I've read about solvers and algorithms, and some people have expressed interest in an excel solver. I do have developed a very simple excel solver that can handle 9x9 SUDOKUS. It is 100% automatic when the puzzle does not need trial-n-error. I've found that 90% of puzzles are straight forward. The tool allows to analize alternative solutions when guessing is needed, so one can easily solve even sudokus with unique solution that require guessing. I am also using that tool to develope a ranking scheme that is pretty much objective and accurate to describe expected dificulty to solve the puzzle on hand. Any one interested in having a copy, raking a particualr sudoku against the ones I have or get a copy of the most dificult one I have found so far just let me know (is email publication allowed here?). --Alvaro Ledesma 02:56, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

My apologies for changing the code within nowiki. WinBot is designed to subst user talk page templates with list generated from "what transcludes here". I believe that it was the un-susbst'ed welcome template in your user talk page brings WinBot to here and changed the template in the nowiki sections also. It should normally not happen as long as your page don't contain any un-subst'ed user talk templates as stated in WP:SUBST. SPEED Channel Cleanup Required?

The user Tarun2701 who added the cleanup tag to SPEED Channel has made no contributions at all since December 1, 2006? And has no user or talk page. You added the date to the tag (Nov 2006), but it was, I assume via a bot. There is nothing in the discussion page about the cleanup required (and no indication anything was added at the time the cleanup tag was added). It might be nice if someone created an agenda. I don't feel I have the experience myself, to spearhead such an effort. And the page is not under the umbrella of any project, as far as I can tell, although maybe there is a suitable such project for it?--SportWagon 00:30, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

The monkeys

Sorry about removing the trivia item about the monkeys on Trial Mountain from Gran Turismo 4 - I didn't realize that Yamauchi thought so much of them. After whoever added the toomuchtrivia tag (and I strongly agree with it), I took a hard look at every bit of trivia in there, and the monkeys bit just seemed kinda, well, stupid. My bad! The really tall tree item seemed pretty pointless, and as hard as Nessie is to find in there, that seemed worthy of staying. The GT4 strategy guide

If you're going to look in there for info on the World Trade Center being in the New York track, can you look in there for some verification on the Kingdome comments for the Seattle track too? That one's been tagged with verification-needed for a looooong time. Some proper cites would look nice on those paragraphs. — Wwagner 21:06, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for looking. It sounds like a good excuse to remove them from the article. Frankly, those trivia bits always sounded like BS to me - after all, GT4 is a Japanese game, and those landmarks are in the USA. What kind of nostalgia are a bunch of Japanese game programmers going to have about some American buildings? One more quick thing - I just drove the New York track, specifically to look for the WTC. There are some buildings very near the finish line which do look somewhat like the WTC. However, the real WTC was some 70 blocks south of Times Square, which is where the track's finish line is located. Busted! I removed that whole thing. — Wwagner 15:00, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

I had forgotten to check the GT3 guide. So I did so last night, and it points out that both the Kingdome and the new stadium are (now) there, but does not mention "nostalgia", nor give any reason or speculation about why the old one was retained. Legends of Motorsport (band)

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Legends of Motorsport (band), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. I had no interest at all in the Legends of Motorsport (band) article. I created Legends of Motorsport and somehow had inferred that the band was a possible source of confusion. You should identify yourself (as a Wikipedian). The logs for the article indicate there is some consensus the article should not be undeleted. I have no feelings either way. Get a wikipedia login, and attempt to make your case in the appropriate place, which is probably at some music project. Unfortunately, you are clearly not a neutral observer of the situation, so it will be difficult to convince people there that there are unbiased arguments to support your case.--SportWagon (talk) 18:24, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

I know of no means by which other editors can change one's watchlist. It's possible that an article you had watchlisted was moved, either as vandalism or as a proper move, which would add the new article title to your watchlist in addition to the original title. If it's move vandalism, and the article is moved back, the old (vandal) title would remain on your watchlist. What changes are you noticing? Racing line definitely got moved off because of what you mention. But I was sure I had put it back. Perhaps someone later adjusted the move again, or something. Or maybe I wasn't so sure I had put it back. Clicking "unwatch" by accident isn't that difficult to do, either. Testing Conversion

David Hobbs

Hi, I suspect this racing driver was the son of Howard F Hobbs who created the Hobbs Automatic Transmission (look at the article on Westinghouse Brake and Signal Company Ltd) if you are not sure such a development ever existed.

I think that while it was never a commercial success this Hobbs gearbox / transmission deserves an article in Wikipedia. Quite a few articles would link to it.

Actually that problem was due to Gflores tag-mismatched, HTML-version-inconsistent sig (and perhaps due to wiki[mp]edia trying to compensate for errors and getting it wrong; commenting out the original Gflores sig code fixed the problem, ayway).

   So I thought I'd contribute this, although it is simplistic:

   I spread my Marmite sparingly, upon my buttered toast
   Of all the things to put on bread, it's what I like the most.

   Its flavour always feels warm, although it isn't hot
   --Caustic like a chili sauce, it certainly is not

   Approved by vegetarians, and good for your nutrition
   Of what my Mum called savoury, the very definition.

   Though made from lowly byproducts--leftover brewing ooze
   It is so reminiscent of the finest of French stews

   Such grand associations were surely what was meant
   When so named by clever brewers from Burton on the Trent

   Precisely what exquisite yeast do Marmite makers use
   To lend such gourmet qualities to brewing residues?
