October 2010 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, Spamelgoog, may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because your username seems to be a play on the words "Google Spam". While this may not be the case and you might not have intended this play of words, unfortunately, your edits to our article on Google Maps is also coincidental. Kindly consider changing your name.. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. Wifione ....... Leave a message 13:39, 8 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

what's wrong with a backward word username of another made up name anyway? i like my username and i don't want to change it. i'm allowed to edit whateva article i want - and what if my name is backward of an article. i mean - wikipedia is a made up name anyway. And my username is not an article. And there are lots of famous names that are being used by other people. Well, your name is Wifi one??? why are you allowed to keep your name? At least my name is backwards. Spamelgoog (talk)

//////////////////// NO. Because - 1) U r allowed to use Wifione in your name - and you're ordering me to change mine. How come you don't have to obey the same rules?

2) I can edit whateva article of my choice to help wikipedia x 2 x 1,000000000000000

3) 'promotional edit?' - U check stuff properly first b4 getting snooty and bossy with me

4) Adding 'please' - does not mean that you are not being a policeman. R u a real policeman, plz?

5) 'I consider' - exactly, 1 x 1 x 1 etc etc

And finally, boring (very) this talk is. Yawn, yawn. Spamelgoog (talk) 23:09, 9 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

PS. In case u reply (Pleez don't) - Just reply to Question # 1, only. Thank u peace out.

  • I'll try and answer your questions one by one
1. Actually, I also have to obey the same rules as you have to. In case I start editing articles named Wifione, I'll immediately be pulled up by some or the other editor. In this case, as your name connects in one way to the article you're editing, there's always the issue of editors like me coming up to advise/request you to change your name.
2. You can and should edit Wikipedia as much as you would wish to. I would not want this issue to give you a bad light of your experience at Wikipedia. In fact, that would be extremely negative of me if I were to end up giving you a bad experience.
3. 'Promotional edit' relates to your name and the article you're editing, irrespective of the quality of editing. In case you were to have edited some other article, I wouldn't even have landed up here.
4. I'm not a policeman; my apologies if I gave you that impression. I am an administrator on Wikipedia, with some extra tools to help in bettering and cleaning up Wikipedia.
5. Normally, I would block promotional user names without a discussion; and would simply leave a note behind informing the user about the same along with unblock instructions. In your case, the fact that I have not blocked your user name is proof enough of the fact that I have not considered your user name outright and blatantly promotional. The only worry I have - the reason why I have initiated this discussion and am continuing it - is that in the future, there could be many more cases of users coming up to point out your user name, in case you continue editing Google Maps with your current user name, which is basically the opposite of Google Maps. In case you do not wish to change your user name, I assure you, I am not going to block you. At the same time, I would open up a request for comment on your user name from other editors. This would allow both of us to be comfortable about the future usage of your user name on Wikipedia.
6. At the end, I should like to apologize personally to you on the fact that your initial editing experience on Wikipedia has started out like this. I hope this issue gets sorted out soon.
Best regards. Wifione ....... Leave a message 08:49, 10 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

October 2010 edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. In your recent edit to List of Sanrio characters, you added links to an article which did not add content or meaning, or repeated the same link several times throughout the article. Please see Wikipedia's guideline on links to avoid overlinking. We don't link to commons words such as cat, dog, etc. because everyone knows what they mean and they are not specific terms related to the article.
