Discuss, don't just revert

edit

Please don't revert again, as you did on Akron, Ohio. When there is a dispute, we are supposed to discuss this on the talk page of the article, not just go back and forth. I hope you will reply to my comments on the talk page, otherwise I will have to revert you again. Fram (talk) 20:34, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Akron, Ohio

edit

Thanks for all the work you have out into the Akron, Ohio article. Just make sure that the info you add is not only properly cited (see WP:CITE) but that it is also relevant to the article. If information isn't helping the reader to better understand the subject, Akron, then it really shouldn't be in the article. Such was the case for the section "Meth Capital of Ohio" which contained mostly information about meth use in Summit County and in the state, not to mention in the US. That information would be relevant to an article on meth use in the US, but not in an article on Akron. Further, there was no source which has proclaimed Akron as "Meth Capital of Ohio" so it really shouldn't be presented as such.

The same goes for much of the history sections. Perhaps a separate article "History of Akron, Ohio" is needed, but in this article, mostly what is needed is a general history which touches on significant events but doesn't necessarily go into great detail about them. For instance, in the articles on Kent, Ohio and Kent State University, the Kent State shootings are mentioned as part of the city's and university's respective histories, but only the main points are brought out. If a reader wants more details on that event, they can go to that specific article. In other words, if it is significant enough to warrant greater detail, then it is likely notable enough to warrant its own article. Much of the info in the section on Akron's history is significant to Akron, but not really notable to anyone outside of Akron. It falls into the category of trivia and "interesting" but not encyclopedic. Also, many of the details are irrelevant to the subject, for instance, in the section on the KKK in Akron. Most of that section is explaining the background of that event, but is not contriubuting to a greater understanding of Akron.

Definitely read articles for other large cities to see examples of what to include and what really shouldn't be included in an article like this. Lists should be avoided as should "trivia" items. Wikipedia isn't an encyclopedia of everything, nor is it designed to promote a certain subject or idea. --JonRidinger (talk) 05:49, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Question of identity

edit

Hi there, I was wondering if you are user Sleepydre? Thanks, §hep¡Talk to me! 02:10, 27 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'd really prefer not to have to request a CheckUser. Sleepydre uploaded a file, it was deleted, then you came in with similar edits to Akron, Ohio and uploaded the exact same image a day after the original was deleted. So either this is a copyright issue and a coincidence in the similar edits or sockpuppetry. Thanks, §hep¡Talk to me! 00:33, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
