Public domain

{{helpme}} If an image has been released to the public domain by its maker but that person isn't a user in Wikipedia, what would be the proper tag for that particular image? Slayer of corrupt (talk) 14:02, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Slayer. First, don't upload it here, upload it to the Wikimedia Commons so all Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia, can use it. The tag there would depend on various factors. For example if it's public domain in the US, the tag would be {{PD-US}} See Category:Public domain there. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:29, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm. I'm really not sure. I have an account on commons but I'm no maven. You could place the helpme template back up and wait for a user with more experience with these issues, or you could ask where they're sure to know, at the Commons help desk.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:45, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

In the future

Even if you think the gallery still belongs in the article, there was no reason to remove the commons category template. There are many more KFC images on commons than there are in the article.--Crossmr (talk) 12:40, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
