February 2009 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Silky Sifaka has been reverted.

Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \byoutube\.com (links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhc2uewi1aa/). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy and therefore probably should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file. Video links are also strongly deprecated by our guidelines for external links, partly because they're useless to people with slow internet connections.

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 18:38, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Edits to Silky Sifaka edit

Hi Eric, I've reverted your edits to Silky Sifaka. The image seems like it is under the copyright of two other photographers, and the link you provided is a link to your own personal website. This doesn't add much to the article, hope you can find a way to use your obvious knowledge of the Silky Sifaka to improve the article. Cheers, Jack (talk) 22:31, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Okay if you could add the images one at a time without any text or borders, that is the prefered format. Otherwise you have made some great additions, obviously being new, there is a lot of cleanup of prose and the sort of things you should/shouldn't mention need to be worked on. Other than that, there is some great information here, maybe you should think about joining [[WP:PRIM]|WikiProject Primates]]? I'll have a look at your work further tomorrow. Conflict of Interest/Pai</>d editing edit

Since you indicate you are an employee of the Lemur Conservation Foundation "(our facility)" you should familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's policies on conflict of interest, paid editing. If as part of your employment you edit Wikipedia you must, per the ToU, make specific disclosures on the article. Right now I will add a simple 'connected contributor' notice on the article talk page but please let me know if you are doing this as part of your employment (ie on work time vs personal time). Thank you. Jbh Talk 19:38, 26 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the email reply. I have changed the {{connected contributor (paid)}} to {{connected contributor}} on the article talk page.
Since you mentioned you did not know how to use edit the talk page here a brief tutorial on editing talk pages. Jbh Talk 00:05, 27 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi JBH, thanks for the helpful tutorial for the talk pages. Did you mention earlier that we could retain the two original photos I added if I obtained permission from the photographer (Caitlin Kenney)? This is not a problem at all. But how specifically do I provide such permissions, what would be sufficient? An email from her to you? Simponafotsy (talk) 01:38, 27 February 2018 (UTC)SimponafotsyReply
You are quite welcome. Everyone here is a volunteer editor just as you are - some just spend more time curating materials. There are volunteers who specialize in handling copyright clearance with whom you can organize copyright permissions. They can be contacted by emailing photosubmission wikimedia.org. Please include the photograph in question, along with a statement that you own the copyright on it and an agreement to release it under a free license. Our recommended license is the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license. The form at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent can be used for this purpose. Please note that submissions made by email may take several weeks to process. For more information about donating your copyrighted content, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials
A quicker option would be for the copyright owner to get a Wikipedia account and then upload the material as 'Own work' and provide an appropriate license as part of the upload. If the material is published elsewhere, or if the photos being uploaded are watermarked (there should be no visible watermarking if possible), it would probably be better to go through the email process. Otherwise uploading by the copyright owner is the quickest and least painful way to go.
Also, please... please try to track down some other independent press coverage of the LCF - I have looked through all of the databases I have access to and could only find the one I noted on the talk page. As it stands the article's notability is marginal. I have mentioned the General Notability Guidelines and notability guidelines for organizations - those are how we judge whether a topic may have an article. In short they require "significant coverage"' in independent, third party reliable sources. One article, particularly in local/regional press, typically does not pass that bar while two might and three mostly does. The video looks to be a YouTube not a TV news production so probably would not contribute to notability. -- Please read through the blue linked terms. They are all Wikipedia jargon which has specific meaning here that is not always what one would expect from the common definitions of the terms.
I have the article and your talk page on my watchlist but my activity here is sporadic and those notifications expire in a day or so. If you have a question you can contact me on my talk page or {{ping}} me - {{ping|Jbhunley}} - from any talk page. I will get an email notification and get back to you. You can also get help from the volunteers at the WP:TEAHOUSE or by placing {{helpme}} on your talk page. Jbh Talk 05:24, 27 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi JBH, I have added several independent sources, see citations #9 and #11. Is this now sufficient to remove some of the warnings at the top of the page? Simponafotsy (talk) 22:51, 4 March 2018 (UTC)simponafotsyReply
Since this relates to the article I have replied over there. replied over there. That allows other editors who are interested to follow the discussion and also keeps the discussion centralized. Jbh Talk 23:55, 4 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2018 election voter message edit

Hello, Simponafotsy. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
