GOCE drive newsletter edit

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their November 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles (and specifically will be targeting the oldest three months), as we want to copy edit as many of these as possible. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters.

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without verifying permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted.

Please take this opportunity to be sure you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. GOCE March drive newsletter edit

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far.

Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (talk), Stfg (talk), and Dank (talk)

Request reason:

I am unaware of the consequences which will happen to me, I don't have much idea about the wiki editing, kindly please unblock me so that I can learn and flourish in a better way. Hope you will help me nurture my skill over wikipedia. I promise and abide by the word that it will not happen ever again. I am really sorry and truly, heartily apologize and regret for the misbehavior. Please restore my userpage: Shroffameen the way it was if you don't allow me to edit. Sincere request. I shall abide by all the rules and also been through the rules of editing in wikipedia. It will be grateful if you do the needful to me by unblocking me and restoring my userpage the way it was. Thanks so much. God bless. Awaiting speedy solution to my problem :(

Decline reason:

Your claims that you did not realise what you were doing, that you were willing to learn, and that you would never do the same again, may have seemed plausible when you first made those claims back in August 2011, but having made those claims you have continued in the same way. Is there any reason we should regard your assurances as more valid this time than last time? JamesBWatson (talk) 13:10, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I feel I should get another chance because a person never learns unless he does a mistake, I am still unaware of what to do and what not to do, if you can help me with list of do's and don'ts it will be kind. You must be having a pretty much knowledge about the wikipedia editing, if you cannot unblock me, kindly guide me the way to delete my account and ip address as I will therefore delete myself and think Wikipedia editing is not my trade. Hoping you will do the needful. It all sounds so funny bargaining for an unblock, looks like am asking a candy from a teacher. Regards, Have fun Editing ! Shroffameen (talk) 10:26, 19 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

If you are still, even now, unaware of how to avoid violating copyright protection after it has been explained to you repeatedly (as can be seen in the history of edits to this very page) then you apparently lack the requisite level of competence required to effectively contribute here and will need to remain blocked to prevent you from adding more copyright violations to this project. Request reason:

Cool, very fine ! Keep it blocked, Not interested to waste my time arguing with bunch of intellectual people. Have fun editing.

Decline reason:

I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. TNXMan 16:12, 21 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I deeply apologize for my misbehavior on wikipedia. I have realized that I have done this mistake twice. I have also realized that I have done very wrong. I know I have promised way back in August that I will not do any misbehavior on wikipedia but I apologize for the cause and time i have taken of yours. I promise and I am very true I have lately realized my mistakes and I promise all over again and I swear that this mistake will not be repeated in anyway. Also, I promise that I will first discuss the references and everything on the talk page and then will think of editing it after a discussion with the other editors and administrators. Kindly, Please unblock me as I have realized and known my responsibilities as Wikipedia editor. Please, do unblock me and give me a chance once and for all. Hoping you will have faith in me, I won't mind if you stalk me and my updates after unblocking. Regards, Shroffameen (talk) 13:58, 23 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

If I gave a test, and instead of writing the answer, a student simply wrote, "I promise that I know all the answers to this test, so please give me an A," I would give that student an F. There's nothing in this request that shows that you understand what copyright is. In fact, your promise to 'first discuss the references' seems to indicate that you do not yet understand what copyright is. Since copyright is US law, allowing people to violate it would expose Wikipedia to lawsuits, so it wouldn't be wise to unblock you without being sure that you have learned how to follow this rule.
