Welcome edit

Hello, Sherwelthlangley, and Welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions. We hope that you like this place and decide to stay.

Here are some helpful tips for newcomers:

  • Always sign your posts on talk pages. This can be accomplished by typing three tildes (~~~) after your comments. If you use four, you can add the date and time too. If you know HTML, you can customize your signature by clicking the "my preferences" link at the top of the page. Always sign your comments on talk pages. Never sign articles.
  • You may want to create a user page. You can use this page to tell other users about yourself, make a list of the articles you've contributed to, add links to websites you like, and for testing wiki markup. If you're not sure where to begin, try picking out some userboxes for yourself to get started. If you do not wish to have a user page, then please redirect it to your user talk page (here) rather than leaving it blank. This will save everybody an extra click ;-).
  • Check out the manual of style to see how wiki markup works. Don't worry, it's not that hard to learn!
  • Always remember to fill in the edit summary field when editing articles.
  • If you are not a native speaker of English, check out this page.
  • If you have a specific area of interest or expertise, consider joining a WikiProject about it.

Here are a few links that you might find helpful:

A complete list of all Wikipedia policies and guidelines can be found here.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, or try browsing through the help pages or the tutorial.

Happy Editing

License tagging for Image:Dcuk logo.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Dcuk logo.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 04:15, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Dcelogo.gif) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Dcelogo.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 17:36, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

April 2007 edit

Please do not add unhelpful and unconstructive content to Wikipedia, as you did to John D. Roberts. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Thatguy69 01:55, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please do not violate Wikipedia policy by introducing inappropriate pages, such as Sherwin Lee, to Wikipedia. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. --Kinu t/c 19:09, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • My apologies to both of you. I was creating mock articles and was experimenting with them. I had originally planned to revert all pages back to normal, but a few mishaps occurred. I will be sure to use the sandbox in the future. Sherwelthlangley 23:04, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group edit

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington (Seattle campus), and my group is reaching out to Wikipedians in the Puget Sound area. We're hosting a focus group designed to gather information on what Wikipedians would like to know about each other when interacting on Wikipedia. Our end goal is to create an embedded application that helps people quickly know more about others' history and activity on Wikipedia, and we feel our design will be much more useful if it's based on insights of users like you.

I'm hoping that the chance to help out local researchers, to engage in lively face-to-face discussion with other Seattle Wikipedians, and to contribute to Wikipedia in a new way will entice you to join us. The session lasts 2 hours and snacks are provided. Sessions will be held on UW Seattle campus - directions will be sent after registration. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Willing and able to help us out? RSVP here. Want to know more? Visit our user talk page . Please help us contact other local Wikipedians, too! Commprac01 (talk) 02:09, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
