Edits to physics cats

Hi,

Could you please stop the edits to the physics categories, and join discussion in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Categories? A number of edits that you made were incorrect, and its getting tedious trying to clean them up. Also, please don't make any edits to math categories for a while either. linas 15:00, 6 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sure. Sorry about that - I guess I just got carried away. SeventyThree(Talk) 13:28, 8 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

La Gran Sabana

thanks for bringing it to my attention. I was looking around the Spanish Wikipedia at the time, found an article about this important geographic area in Venezuela, and decided to translate it into the English wikipedia. I forgot to translate it though, so thanks again for bringing it to my attention. I use my subpages now for translation so I won't do that anymore. --Revolución (talk) 03:27, 8 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem - I wouldn't have a chance at translating it (I'm not even sure what language it is!) so I'm glad you can. Thanks. SeventyThree(Talk) 09:31, 12 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I needed that help on the C discussion. User:69.178.31.177
No problem - anything else I can do to help, feel free to ask. On a related note, it's usual to sign anything you add to talk pages using ~~~~, which gives the user and time of the comment. SeventyThree(Talk) 17:03, 17 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for making changes. I have pulled infomation from their website. Infact this is one of the highly reguarded private companies in analytics in Mumbai. I appreicate your help and since this I am in a learning curve I tender my apologies.

Apologies accepted, not that they were necessary (or at least, not to me). Everyone here is on a learning curve, and I'm glad you recognise this - I'm on a learning curve, too. The joy of editing is that we don't need to be perfect. Hope you continue to add to and improve WP! SeventyThree(Talk) 17:26, 17 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Memo to self

Gahk, shared IP address blocked for 24 hours. Since this is the only page I can edit, a note to self:

  • Homeopathy needs most of the footnotes reformatted to use < ref >
  • Climbing needs external links tidying (checked 2 for spam already)

Ho hum, enforced mini-wikibreak it is! Time for bed. SeventyThree(Talk) 06:00, 4 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Excellent work on Wikipedia:Templates with red links

Thank you for putting the subdividers throughout the new Wikipedia:Templates with red links pages! BD2412 T 15:28, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Glad it was appreciated, and thanks for the comment. I was slightly nervous about stepping all over "somebody else's" page - somehow non-namespace articles feel different to me. SeventyThree(Talk) 17:59, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hockey Logo categorizing

Hey, most of those logos you recategorized are not specifically hockey logos. The vast majority of them are used in all sports within a schools's athletic department. A few of them are simply the school's official shield/emblem. Anyway, I don't care, just letting you know. ccwaters 14:46, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

That makes things harder than I thought. I was trying not to move the school logos, but I obviously missed some. Almost all of the images were linked only from hockey pages, so I assumed that they were hockey-related logos - I guess I'll have to stick to more general categories from now onwards. Thanks for the heads-up! SeventyThree(Talk) 16:42, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Template:Logo has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you.--Esprit15d 19:36, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Underpopulated (Year) in Canada categories

I noticed your name in connection with the above. Q. Why do these cats even exist? Who can authorize deleting them? (I just think that this type of stuff will hang around forever unless someone knows how to clear it up). I don't think that there will be a population for single year cats.

Category:Underpopulated (Year) in Canada categories

Thanks for letting me vent. (Stormbay 22:03, 29 March 2006 (UTC))Reply

Why do they exist? Because somebody (not me) decided that they were a good idea. I imagaine it was part of some misguided attempt at standardisation. I moved them into Category:Underpopulated (Year) in Canada categories to make Category:Underpopulated categories more usable.
Who can authorise deleting them? Any Administrator can delete them. The proper process is to go through Categories for Deletion - since there are so many similar ones, an 'umbrella' nomination would be better than nominating each category individually.
I fixed your syntax in your above comment - to link to a category, put a colon at the start (like this [[:Category:Underpopulated (Year) in Canada categories]] ). Without the colon (like this [[Category:Underpopulated (Year) in Canada categories]] ) the link disappears, and places the current page in the category. Another way to link to a category is to use a handy template called cat - typeing {{cat|Underpopulated (Year) in Canada categories}} gives Category:Underpopulated (Year) in Canada categories.
Also, you need 2 linebreaks to make a new paragraph. I still don't know the logic behind that!
And finally, welcome! I don't profess to know everything - but if you've got a question, feel free to ask me and I'll help if I can. SeventyThree(Talk) 20:55, 30 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the detailed reply! The clues to syntax are very helpful and I am going to look at the category in more detail. I was just going to post an event in one of the years and discovered the whole "mess". Thanks again and I may take you up on asking more questions. (Stormbay 22:30, 30 March 2006 (UTC))Reply

Talk pages

Thanks! There seems to be no rule requiring the archiving of talk pages (see Wikipedia:Talk_pages#User_talk_pages. I have no current discussions ongoing, and anyone wishing to see previous talk can see the history, Thanks, For great justice. 21:23, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Actively erasing personal messages without replying (if a reply would be appropriate or polite) will probably be interpreted as hostile...However, reverting such removals or redirects is not proper and may result in a block for edit warring" (taken from the page you linked to) (Ps I Did Not Fallow you to this page It is Just A Coincidence). Also I Am sorry for my actions on your user Page (The Official Policy Is Both of us Are Wrong) (Although I Re Wrote my warnings and didn’t revert myself Once. I Still Don't get why you removed my Apology from your talk page. You May not have any Current Discussions But you do have the Reoccurring problems with random users. I just get this felling that you are attempting to remove all evidence of conflicts you've had in the past and Several users have told you to stop that. This is an ongoing problem that won’t just go away because you remove content from your talk page. Ps you are 100% right that I had no right to return to you user page for a second warning because I was warned to stay out of it when I asked for advise. It’s just unseating because you NEVER respond to comments that are critical of your actions. Also Just becose it isn't a rule Dosn't Mean you should not do it--E-Bod 22:17, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure who that comment was aimed at, but I presume For great justice.. Anyway, thanks for pointing out that I shouldn't revert the blanking - I hadn't noticed that. I'll be more careful in future. SeventyThree(Talk) 22:28, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks For Cleaning UP Wikipedia:Removing warnings--E-Bod 22:17, 19 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem. There's a lot more to do before it gets to policy stage (as I'm sure you know), but I decided to clean up the less controversial bits of it. It's good to see somebody who's looked for previous discussions, rather than just jumping in and editing the policy pages. WP:BOLD is good, but caution is required for policy. Good luck with it! Winzip-logo image

Hi,

thanks for the notice. The image was used in the WinZip article, in the erroneous belief that it was the WinZip software logo. As it turns out, instead, it is the *company* logo, and since we have no article about the company (WinZip Computing) the image is now unused. I don't know what the best solution would be. Maybe we could add the company article, but I don't think there's much to say about it except that it produces WinZip and a few other related applications. BTW, thanks for tagging the image for me. In retrospect it seems obvious that you can't claim fair *use* on something which is unused, but it didn't occur to me at first. --Gennaro Prota 11:19, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure the exact logic behind {orfu}, but I think it's more that fair use images are discouraged where free alternatives are availible, rather than because we can't claim fair use. Having said that, there's not alot you can do about logos, because they are fair use anyway. I'll categorise it as a company logo, and see if I can add the image to the winzip (program) article. Failing that, I'll have a look at Company notabliity and see if a stub on the company is acceptable. SeventyThree(Talk) 13:28, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I see. OTOH, it may be easily seen that the image hasn't turned out very well. I guess we can let it go without worries. Please, don't waste too much of your time about this issue. --Gennaro Prota 19:46, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi again. Sorry, I replied *before* before seeing you had added the image to the WinZip article. I seize the occasion to clarify that my intent was just to avoid you wasted too much time to save an image which isn't probably worth it. (I'm not a native speaker so I'm often concerned that my English carries the intended meaning :)) Yours truly, --Gennaro Prota 19:59, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, I can't tell that you're not a native speaker, so assume the message got across. I didn't want the image to go to waste - if we've got it, we may as well use it. Not exactly in line with policy, but I don't think it's an issue. If you (or somebody else) decides it should go, I won't complain. SeventyThree(Talk) 20:05, 23 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
