Welcome! edit

Hello, Scottplakon, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Rachel Plakon, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! April 2023 edit

Hello, Scottplakon, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as Splakon (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. Kj cheetham (talk) 11:31, 9 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your reply. I am a former member of the Florida House of Representatives that has been on Wikipedia for more than a decade (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Plakon). My wife Rachel Saunders Plakon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Plakon) was elected to the Florida House of Representatives last November. She prefers to use her full name Rachel Saunders Plakon for her Wikipedia profile and I've been attempting to make the change but have been unable to do so since I'm apparently not authorized. Can you make this change?
The use of multiple accounts is inadvertent. I very rarely have logged in to Wikipedia over the years to make changes so I did not recall my user name...apparently I had two (splakon and scottplakon). The one I would like to survive is scottplakon. Please advise on how to delete the splakon account. Thank you. Scottplakon (talk) 12:13, 9 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Scottplakon, thanks for your reply. Regarding the article name change, I see that's already been logged on WP:RMTR under "Contested technical requests", but typically we don't accept requests unless they are based on Wikipedia policy/guidelines. In this case you'd typically need to show independent evidence (i.e. not written by the subject) that the full name is the most common name (see WP:COMMONNAME) and not just a preference. There's often a backlog at dealing with requests as we're almost all volunteers here.
Regarding the user accounts, unfortunately it's not possible to delete an account, so everything remains tracable. I'd recommend just using scottplakon going forward, but if you're still got access to splakon put a note on there saying scottplakon is your main account. Just don't continue to use both for editing. Hope that helps. -Kj cheetham (talk) 17:15, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
P.S. Also do note that you shouldn't really be directly editing the articles on yourself or your wife, given it's a conflict of interest, other than the most basic corrections. You can request edits on the talk page though. See WP:COI for more details. -Kj cheetham (talk) 17:17, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
