- Editors using the mobile website on Wikipedia can opt-in to new advanced features via your settings page. This will give access to more interface links, special pages, and tools.
- The advanced version of the edit review pages (recent changes, watchlist, and related changes) now includes two new filters. These filters are for "All contents" and "All discussions". They will filter the view to just those namespaces.

- @Marchjuly: I was responding to the issue being raised on WP:AWNB in the first place. As you have noticed, I cleaned up a lot of the WP:COI material and left it for a few hours. When I came back to it, I failed to find evidence of notability so added {{PROD}}. I have left a message on the talk page of the user who removed the PROD, so will give him/her a chance to respond before proceeding to AFD. As you said, if the enterprise is wiki-notable, then the COI edits should be able to be managed. LinkedIn says the Marketing Coordinator is someone with a name that matches several of the contributors to the article, so I'd say she has been zealous in her job. - I didn't notice the AWNB thread until after I posted the above. I actually had more in my OP, but removed the stuff which appeared to be covered in the AWNB thread. As I hinted at in my post at AWNB, even a BADFAITH de-prod is still a de-prod; so, the next step would be AfD for anyone who feels the article fails NORG. it brings things out of the woodwork, and seems as unresolved as totally unexpected arrivals from some who havent been on the awnb page for years, suddenly turn up. I have no interest in it further - it simply feels like other talk page things that go on and on, and there is clearly a sign of individuals who turn up and say i do it this way, and in the end it smells of herding cats... it does not look like a set of individuals who are going to agree to a consensus decision. - As previously noted, tighter password requirements for Administrators were put in place last year. Wikipedia should now alert you if your password is less than 10 characters long and thus too short.
Arbitration
- The 2019 CheckUser and Oversight appointment process has begun. The community consultation period will take place October 4th to 10th.
- The arbitration case regarding Fram was closed. While there will be a local RfC
focus[ing] on how harassment and private complaints should be handled in the future
, there is currently a global community consultation on partial and temporary office actions in response to the incident. It will be open until October 30th.

Hopgood
Brings back some memories to see someone adding all that info on Hopgood's PhD for his article - I spent a day poring over it in the SLSA years ago because it's the best source in existence on the Lang Labor Party (South Australia) and then managed to lose all my notes in a hard drive crash before I ever got around putting it into Wikipedia. - @The Drover's Wife: Thanks. I was really only looking for enough info to justify correcting his title from Mr. to Dr. when I realised it was wrong. There is probably a lot more good stuff about him in that source. Have you tried asking the State Library to digitise his thesis? I got a "low-res" scan of a document emailed for free (for family history, not Wikipedia). They said they could do "hi-res" for a fee, but since their source was only a 1980s/90s photocopy of an 1860s diary, the low-res scan was as good as their original. --Scott Davis Talk 11:15, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Infobox maps for roadways
Hi. I noticed that you've added OpenStreetMap maps in some articles for roads in Adelaide (i.e. Flagstaff Road, Adelaide). I was wondering how you created the maps and how you added them into the infobox, they look fantastic! – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 08:05, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
- Hi @Nick Mitchell 98:. The wikidata item must have at least one coordinate location (P625), and a way or relation in OpenStreetMap must have the wikidata and/or wikipedia link set. I don't think the OpenStreetMap relation ID (P402) in Wikidata is needed, but it doesn't hurt. kemerton
for anyone with knowledge of the environmental issues that were dominating the media of Perth (as it was then) in the early 1980s, the word kemerton was something like a red rag, interesting that the locality does not even show up in 2010s as even having been a location. The average punter over here wouldnt even be able to distinguish wellesley from worsley is my guess. I suppose it is all a matter of age, memory and areas of interest. - Thanks JarrahTree. That suggests there was a lot more I should have found of interest to put in the Kemerton Power Station article. Thank you for what you have added so far. I found the WA electricity articles to be in a pretty poor state compared to the eastern states. I can't even work out how many distinct power stations there are in Kwinana! I was considering sending you a request for a sanity check, but it looks like you have found what I've done so far. Are you able to run your eye over List of power stations in Western Australia and/or {{Energy in Western Australia}} to at least provide a red link with the right name for each (major) power station on the grid please? Power station articles can be technically interesting as the infobox can be filled completely from wikidata. If you look at my edit history, everything in energy/electricity on wikipedia looks like someone left the door attached to the window sash as in the movie 'on the beach'.... even back to basics the talk pages suggests people lost interest a long time ago... User:Callistemon is well worth contacting either on or off line - he lives near the kwinana area and is former mining in australia content builder extraordinaire... If you are curious about boxes - rangasyd did some good stuff for the dams and things in Tassie. I am probably not into state library until the new year... but will have a look, the big problem is time, it is going crazy at the moment in reallife, I put my hands up for too many things at my age... 06:09, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
- BTW buried somewhere in Mines (I used to go to their now hardly ever used library) should be the mineral sands context to Kemerton
- The mid 1980s battles over mining bauxite in the darling range (not adequately covered in overview anywhere) had included Kemerton as a potential bauxite processing site, and inneresting is the earlier documents suggest it was in Harvey shire, current material suggests Bunbury... my very local knowledge on Harvey-Bunbury area suggests that there are many unwritten articles that need digging in offline sources materials, that means 2020 for me JarrahTree 06:14, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

- An RfC on the administrator resysop criteria was closed. 18 proposals have been summarised with a variety of supported and opposed statements. The inactivity grace period within which a new request for adminship is not required has been reduced from three years to two. Additionally, Bureaucrats are permitted to use their discretion when returning administrator rights.
- Following a proposal, the edit filter mailing list has been opened up to users with the Edit Filter Helper right.

- Wikimedia projects can set a default block length for users via MediaWiki:ipb-default-expiry. A new page, MediaWiki:ipb-default-expiry-ip, allows the setting of a different default block length for IP editors. Neither is currently used. (T219126)

- there are, if watched carefully, some sensible editors who 'watch' motorsport and will edit where necessary - but they have low profile and do not seem to venture anywhere beyond their specific watch list that appears narrow... one of the motorsport watchers may well have the knowledge... but which one, and how to reach out, anyones guess.. ASC Shipbuilding
Hi, Can you please have a look at the following matter. There is a proposal to delete the above article. While the article in its current form is worthy of deletion, the subject is notable. In particular, its future cash flow will be one of the highest of a company based in South Australia. I have not got the time to fix this article by the scheduled execution date and to the necessary changes to both ASC Pty Ltd, the Osborne Naval Shipyard and several other articles. - @Cowdy001: I'm adding a bit to it, but about to knock off for the night and may not get there by the PROD deadline. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Anyone can just remove a PROD tag, and make the proposer (and seconder) take it to a full AFD process. I agree that it looks like it is sufficiently distinct from either its former or current parent to be separately documented, although WP:TOOSOON would be a possible argument for deletion/merger. Are you sure that ASC Shipbuilding reverts to ASC Pty Ltd after the Hunter class contract? I couldn't see that in the cited reference. --Scott Davis Talk 14:00, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

This is an invitation to join the 50,000 Destubbing Challenge Focus of the Week. £250 (c. $310) is being given away in May, June and July with £20 worth of prizes to give away every week for most articles destubbed. Fiery Creek
I took a look and I think your Fiery Creek birth is most likely in the Beaufort/Raglan area where there was the Fiery Creek gold rush. See this and this. Kerry (talk) 04:07, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you Kerry. I realised that once I started looking into it too. It looks like my 3xgreat grandparents immigrated to South Australia in 1850, and soon after, went to the Victorian gold rush with his cousin (who had immigrated with his parents ten years earlier) and the cousin's new wife. I think the cousin and his wife may have come and gone a few times but stayed in Victoria as children were born in several goldmining areas and he appears to be buried in Victoria. I am yet to identify his wife's death/burial, but their surviving children seem to have stayed in Victoria too. My 3xgreat grandparents returned to SA in 1854 and took up farming in the same area I grew up in over a century later. --Scott Davis Talk 06:33, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Ruxton-Ireland connections
Hello Scott,
I am currently looking into my family ancestry, and have always been aware of a Ruxton or two mariages into my family in Galway, Ireland in the 1820s.
I have some infornation here, regarding the Ruxton's legal practice in Galway, but it is vague.
I wonder do you have any more information about the Ruxtons of Galway - I can fill you in much more about hteir activites in Ireland/Galway in the 1820s-80s.
