List of RHPs and state lists

Hi! Hope u don't mind my developing List of RHPs to include a table of RHP counts by state, and likewise developing a bunch of the state lists to have similar tallies by county, as u had done with List of RHPs in CA. In many of the state lists i edited, i was building on the table-izing work you had done, it is only possible and/or i am only choosing to add state tallies for states which are entirely table-ized. Ur cumulative work is appreciated. I've finished table-izing some more states, too. I was starting to do a tally-table for Virginia, before i found u were partway through that state's counties/independent cities. That's a state which i wonder might compete with NY for high number of RHPs. Total RHPs in fully-table-ized states is approaching 20k.

And, by the way, i am keeping in mind ur previous feedback about doing a complete job when doing so. Cleaned up some old lists within the List of RHPs in MN, am plugging away at cleanup within List of RHPs in ND, List of RHPs in WI, and List of RHPs in AZ.

Feel free to add more states to the tally in the overall List of RHPs, of course. Cheers, doncram (talk) 04:47, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Like you did for some other states, could you possibly please provide a list of all recent NRHP additions / delistings for MA and ME, to the Talk pages of List of RHPs in MA and List of RHPs in ME? I'd like to go through those to verify coverage of all of them. For MA, there are so many separate list-articles that i am afraid i lost some of the newer ones when converting to new tables, and i am just starting on ME. By the way, i finished cleaning up within MN, ND, AZ, MA, HI, still have cleanup within CO to finish. doncram (talk) 15:31, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Been working mostly on MS and GA recently. Perhaps should not have started OK, SC, AR but did some on each of those. Say, i notice you posted a total tally for NC, and there is a by-county-tally table at List of RHPs in NC, but the counties in the main list are not table-ized. Did you forget to paste in your work from a sandbox somewhere? Just wondering. doncram (talk) 07:33, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Ah, thanks. Then I also notice u seem to have discipline to do the bigger counties first, while i skip around doing smaller ones. :) Thanks for the dab-creating you've been doing. Hopefully it should be getting better, i.e. fewer new dab pages needed per 100 listings processed. I think i observe that. doncram (talk) 07:50, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
FWIW, I've been working my way through the old list entries at the National Register of Historic Places listings in North Carolina page, creating dabs where i can see that they are needed. I've done this through Clay County, alphabetically, and have created a fair number of dabs to get that far. Hopefully this will ease table-izing later, more directly than general dabbing work from working on other state lists and otherwise. 1,355 NRHP dabs now created and tagged. Confused

Just curious why this edit, since Poplar Hill is currently a redlink? Nyttend (talk) 04:56, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Alaska

[leaving an identical note on Doncram's talk page] I'm almost done putting Alaska into tables; only Anchorage, Kodiak Island, Matanuska-Susitna, and Valdez-Cordova are left. There are enough sites that it really needs to be split; because there are only 29 boroughs and census areas (one of which, [{Wade Hampton Census Area, Alaska|]], has no sites at all), I'd like to give each borough and census area its own page, like Pennsylvania and Wyoming have. One problem, however: how should we name the pages? No problems with places such as North Slope Borough, Aleutians West Census Area, Denali Borough, or Prince of Wales-Outer Ketchikan Census Area, but some of these boroughs (Anchorage, Juneau, Sitka, Skagway, and Wrangell) are city-and-borough (like Philadelphia and San Francisco), and they have unusual naming formats — just look at their articles and you'll see what I mean. I'm leaning toward "National Register of Historic Places listings in _____ City and Borough, Alaska", except for Anchorage, which would be "National Register of Historic Places listings in the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska". What do you think? Nyttend (talk) 14:53, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the response; you're quite welcome for the help :-) I've now realised a simpler solution, which I'm about to implement as soon as I finish creating the articles in Notepad — I'm going to do like with Philadelphia, "National Register of Historic Places listings in Sitka, Alaska", "National Register of Historic Places listings in Anchorage, Alaska", etc. Nyttend (talk) 05:17, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Rhoda's house

Sorry for the confusion: I have a vague idea that I created the table all over again for some reason (I don't know why). If so, that's why I restored the house, i.e. I simply didn't realise that it had been removed, or at most thought it was an accident or something. I definitely didn't add it back thinking that you had erred and should be reverted. Nyttend (talk) 06:34, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm quite sure that's what I did — I know I didn't go through the dates and add unnecessary zeroes, and I can't imagine any other explanation for why the zeroes would have been added. Sorry for confusing you and me together... Nyttend (talk) 06:36, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

NRHP headers

Just one request: when you add new listings, like here, could you update the header? I've updated the Aroostook County, Maine page in the way I'm talking about in the upper part of this edit. Nyttend (talk) 21:08, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks :-) I'm just more aware of them because I formatted these lists myself. Some other states have a similar format (many of which I've formatted); it's typically the ones that have the county locator maps at the top. Nyttend (talk) 21:17, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

NRHP list-article practices

I asked, over at User talk:Marcbela#NRHP list-article practices, for Marcbela to take care to do some disambiguation-related stuff when doing county/state list-articles. I wonder if i could ask you to do the same stuff, perhaps you do most but not all of it. In particular I would appreciate more eyes noticing problems with dab pages and using the "NRHP dab needing cleanup" tag to identify the problems, so that i can come fix them. Anyhow, I'd appreciate if you could take a look at what i wrote out at Marcbela's page. I'll ask Nyttend and Dtbohrer, who i think are the others most active in doing NRHP tables now, too. Thanks, doncram (talk) 02:36, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for asking for clarification about what i was asking from you. About disambiguating when creating a new table for X city, Y county, Z state what i do is:

1. Check all bluelinks in the newly pasted in Elkman table.

1A. If a bluelink points to an article on the NRHP, then okay.

1B. If a bluelink points to a disambiguation page already, check that the page presents the county Y NRHP properly (meaning that it shows red-link to "____ (X, Z)" followed by bluelink ", listed on the NRHP in X, Z" or ", listed on the NRHP in Z". If your NRHP is not presented properly there already, then probably other ones are not presented properly either. You can check to see whether other ones should be added by quickly checking via Elkman's "Who has" tool, at http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/whohas.php. Tag the dab for me to come fill it out by tagging it with {{NRHP dab needing cleanup}}, or fill it out all the way. For a dab titled "Smith House", I add all the places named exactly "Smith House", of course, and also all places named "Firstname Smith House", and variations like "Smith House and Barn". I usually find that one or more of those variation ones already has an article, so the dab has at least one bluelink. If there is no bluelink entry, I will create an NRHP stub, to protect the new dab page from dab-page-deleters. It's fine if you just want to tag the page for me to come check it, to develop it out and/or to create an NRHP stub. What I need help on is identifying the need for a new dab or for cleanup of a dab.

1C. If a bluelink currently points to somewhere else, then a dab is usually needed. Check "who has". Start the dab, perhaps very minimally, tagging with {{NRHP dab needing cleanup}}. Again what i need is eyes identifying that dab pages are needed. In some cases the bluelink points to an article that is a primary use for the name already, in which case it may be appropriate to add an "otheruses" message pointing to a new dab page "____ House (disambiguation)", to be created. Start that new dab at least minimally, perhaps tagging with {{NRHP dab needing cleanup}}.

2. Consider all the red-links in the newly pasted in Elkman table. If it looks like one is for a common-sounding name, where it is possible/likely that another NRHP or two could share the name, check "Who has". For example, "Garcia House" sounded common to me. "Who has" showed only one NRHP of exactly that name, but others of form "Firstname Garcia House". Start the dab.

3. Back in the list-article, change the table entry to avoid any new or old dabs, but rather to point to the fully specified redlink "____ House (X, Z)"

4. Down in the old list of NRHP links in the list-article, check that the old entry for the place doesn't point to an article already that has a different non-standard name, like "____ House (X City)". If so, move it to "___ House (X City, Z State)" so that the disambiguation page and the Elkman table point to it properly. Or revise the disambiguation page and the Elkman table entry.

I may be wrong, but I have the impression that you do steps 1A, 3 and 4, but not 1B, 1C and 2. I believe this because you previously informed me that you do not create dabs or new NRHP stubs to support dabs, and I haven't been noticing that you have created dab pages. Cumulatively over time I have developed a lot of NRHP dab pages and now come across them regularly from new list-tables. I usually check who created dab pages that i come across, and don't recall noticing your name, or at least not often. I do have a list of all the NRHPs for which there are 6 or more of exactly that name, and have fixed or am fixing up dabs for all of them. But for smaller cases, I need help identifying the need for a dab page to be created or to be cleaned up. And with the {{NRHP dab needing cleanup}} tag available now, I am hoping you will be able to identify those without spending a whole lot of time doing all the dab page development. Does this not describe some steps different from what you are doing already? Thanks, doncram (talk) 16:17, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for replying at my Talk page. Excerpt from your reply: "As for creating new dab pages, I've not done much of that because when I reviewed WP:MOSDAB, (a) I found the details somewhat overwhelming and confusing and (b) it seemed like biting off more than I'm willing to chew given that my primary interest is in developing NRHP list articles and not dab pages. If your interest is in creating dab pages, why not use some of the tools that Elkman has developed to do so?" Yes, I agree that complying with MOSDAB is daunting. I am not asking you to do very much. Mostly I am just asking for you to let me know when you observe that a dab page needs to be created or cleaned up, so that I can create it and/or develop it. One way to alert me is to start a dab page in any fashion (disregarding MOSDAB requirements) and put the {{NRHP dab needing cleanup}} tag on it, and for you to put links on that page to the NRHP articles that you know it should cover. Or, if you could email me or Talk page me or otherwise send me the dabs that are needed and what are the NRHP articles that should be covered on it. The latter approach may be less efficient, but I mainly want your eyes noticing when a dab page is needed.
About creating the DAB pages, I do use the 2 relevant Elkman tools I know of: "Disambiguation page creator" at http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/dablinker.php, and "Who has" at http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/whohas.php. Neither is entirely adequate on its own.
Also, to clarify, my primary interest is not in creating dab pages. It is to develop NRHP articles and list-articles. But DABs are necessary supporting structure. I went through an extremely long process working with WikiProject Disambiguation regulars to sort out exactly what is needed for NRHP-related dab pages, and my work now stands up to everyone's scrutiny. NRHP-related dab pages used to be deleted very frequently, or put up for AfD. That never happens now, knock on wood. doncram (talk) 22:45, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for following up about Exchange Building and Thunderbird Lodge situations. Pls. see my reply at my talk page. doncram (talk) 20:10, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your creating a number of disambiguation pages and tagging for me to finish up. It's a real help. I assume you'll keep them on your watchlist if you want to see what else if anything i do before removing the cleanup tag. Sometimes it gets sort of complex: it happens that just now I ended up combining Salem Downtown Historic District and Downtown Salem Historic District, one of which you created, into a combo dab with others that will be at Salem Historic District, once my requested move is processed. Others are simpler. It helps me a ton to have them started as you are doing, otherwise I would never have a chance. doncram (talk) 23:28, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Colonial Hotel

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Colonial Hotel, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

DAB page consisting of nothing but DAB links

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Rtphokie (talk) 20:35, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

I did the NRHP dab cleanup that was already called for, and removed the Prod tag. I responded also to Rtphodie by this request not to Prod any others. Frankly, i think it was very unnecessary, given the article was already tagged for cleanup. But also I just modified the NRHP cleanup tag to ask explicitly for no Prods or other deletions. Hopefully it won't happen again, and I hope you will please continue creating these! Thanks. doncram (talk) 21:12, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
FWIW, i have been kind of surprised how many new dabs u were able to create. It seems a lot of VA ones involve "wood", like Beechwood, Longwood, etc., so i ran "who has" on "wood" and created a bunch more, trying to get ahead of you. I also worked my way down all the top 100 common U.S. surnames, creating Turner House and others having VA entries. Hopefully u should encounter less need for new dabs. But, if u do, it is still good to do so, and i am watching the NRHP dabs needing cleanup category to more quickly address ur new ones. Cheers, doncram (talk) 22:22, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

"Notable alumni" of minor league teams

Hi. Another editor, NatureBoyMD, has come up with what I think is a good and thoughtful template and conditions for a "notable alumni" list for a minor league team that interests him. See [1]. I thought that before he finalizes it, it/he might benefit from you taking a glance at it, and giving him any comments that you may have, since I could see it being used for other minor league teams (its better than anything I've seen), and you are a baseball editor whose views I respect. Feel free to leave your comments on it for him on my home talk page at the above url, as that is where he and I have been discussing it. Thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 05:36, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Nick Adenhart

This isn't just to you, but just wanted to let you know that your recent edits regarding the Angels roster and Nick Adenhart were completely senseless. First, there's no rule stating the template here must match what's on the Angels' website. Second, while I'm all about WP:VERIFY, the fact that Adenhart had died was also verifiable and therefore trumps the verification of the Angels' listed roster. If it ever happens again, I'll ensure that the correct action is taken.►Chris NelsonHolla! 19:05, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Civic Center changes

Sanfranman,

Regarding your removal of my writing: I was hardly advertising for the vendor. My point was opposite: I think it's a bad idea that they're allowing vendors to set up there, where it used to be a public open space, frequently used for protests or other gatherings. I did talk to the manager and they said they would let anyone sit down on their chairs without having to buy, but I still don't like it.

I would agree that this mentioning of a new vendor set-up borders on the irrelevant, especially since I subsequently found out that the vendor out in the open is not new at all but the same coffee vendor who sets up in that underground access enclosure at the north end. As far as you're removing it instead of suggesting it to me and letting me do it, I don't like that. Let me leave you with this from the Wikipedia Guidelines:

"Be welcoming to newcomers: People new to Wikipedia may be unfamiliar with policy and conventions. Please do not bite the newcomers. If someone does something against custom, assume it was an unwitting mistake. Politely and gently point out their mistake, reference the relevant policy/guideline/help pages, and suggest a better approach." --Br77rino (talk) 00:34, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

fourth of july table-izing

There was little response to my proposing a Fourth of July drive at wt:NRHP, now archived at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Archive 26#Fourth of July, 2009, goals?. I wonder about trying, still, to define something doable, perhaps in line with what you and Nyttend, DtBohrer, and I and sometimes others are doing with the NRHP list-table-izing. Is there anything you'd sign on to, and/or could you estimate what you'd accomplish by July 4 anyhow? Like, i could commit to getting List of RHPs in PR and List of RHPs in SC done, for example. I could ask Nyttend, DTB, Marcbela, too. But, i kinda wonder if you want to get the table-izing done in a rush, or if you'd rather keep it going steadily as it has been. doncram (talk) 18:15, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for responding, and promptly, and that's fine. I didn't mean a deadline in a non-fun way, wouldn't want that, per Lvklock's nicely put comments in response at my Talk page. Like Lvklock i think i would enjoy having a drive going, with a cutoff date / deadline, as a fun project, but i do understand that not being attractive esp. if you have a lot of other deadlines in your life. Cheers, doncram (talk) 23:50, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

NRIS info issues page reorganization

Hi, yes i have been reorganizing wp:NRIS info issues slowly, to batch-submit by state and also to make easier for any one of us. You can put in coordinates issues in either place. I am not myself looking much for coordinates errors. Their map/coordinates person knows they have lots of errors, and in fact there is a better database available now, with much corrected. This is apparently released in a Google Earth maps "layer". Elkman's coordinates are an older version. I think (not sure) that Elkman could merge in better coordinates data if he chose to do so, but he did not choose to. So, I am not motivated to do much reporting/work on coords. It may be enough we have established that the NRIS coords we are using are often not very accurate. doncram (talk) 06:00, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

We should share this at wt:NRHP probably. I didn't mean to suggest Elkman should do anything differently actually. I think it is clear that NPS doesn't have any good set of coordinates. The basic NRIS ones are helpful, though a bit off systematically due to the coordinates datum / geo-system change of 1985, and also off in the historic districts and big properties like plantation houses (where the given point is a calculated centroid of many corner points and will usually not point to the plantation house). Anyhow if i am not going to take action with coords reporting, which i hadn't really thought out, that should be said and settled. Thanks for asking about this. doncram (talk) 06:13, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

NC tableizing

Hi! I've been working on tableizing in several states (notably AR and MO). Currently there are just 3 partially done counties outside of NC, and i expect those 3 will be done by tomorrow. I'm wondering if you mind others helping in NC. If not, is there an order you'd prefer I/we work in (ie A-Z, Z-A, small to large or whatever) to avoid edit conflicts? Lvklock (talk) 01:13, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. I'm good with starting from small to larger, and we'll meet in the middle somewhere. I like the smaller ones, because they move along faster, make me feel like I'm getting somewhere (unlike my real life work, which is very bogged down right now). So, sounds like a plan to me. Lvklock (talk) 03:05, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi. See you're active, and i think i lost an edit on my own with a server error, so i am stopping on main List of RHPs in NC now. Only 7 or 8 counties to finish, i think, can still be done today. But, there's one item in Davie County, National Register of Historic Places listings in Davie County, North Carolina, where note is that in Mocksville, George E. Bernhardt House (listed May 4, 2009). I can't find this listing in National Register weekly announcements in any weeks since that date, or in several weeks before. Do you happen to have a different date noted anywhere, or can you find the relevant weekly listing type info to make a row for this one? doncram (talk) 00:21, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
I came across the same thing once or twice...just once, I'm thinking. The other was probably part of a district. Anyway, I added the info to te talk page and didn't include it in a table. Lvklock (talk) 00:42, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey, between us we got it all done. Hooray!! Lvklock (talk) 03:58, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Milwaukee Clipper

[Posting this also at Doncram's talk] Milwaukee Clipper (passenger steamship) is given as an NHL in Muskegon, MI, both at our list and at its NPS profile, but it doesn't appear anywhere on the NRHP database available in Microsoft Access format at the NRIS. Can you imagine what should be done with it? Is it possible that it was delisted but remains an NHL, perhaps? I'm provisionally adding it to the Muskegon County, Michigan list, but I'm not exactly sure that this is right. Nyttend (talk) 17:13, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Never mind, it's currently listed in Lake County, Indiana. Opinion, please: do you think we should move it from there and add it to the Muskegon County list? I've never before dealt with moveable listings that have been moved. Nyttend (talk) 17:16, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your advice. I'm going to change it from Hammond to Muskegon; OR concerns should be alleviated simply because it's already listed as an NHL in Muskegon. Nyttend (talk) 18:57, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for table-izing!

  The NRHP Table-izer Barnstar
I award you this Barnstar for your contributions in table-izing multiple states' NRHP list-tables. As one editor put it, just before midnight U.S. Eastern time on July 4, Hey, between us we got it all done. Hooray!!

In fact we met multiple goals in table-izing list-articles covering all 83,973 NRHPs nation-wide during February 2008 to July 4, 2009.
Thank you for your persistence and thoroughness all along, and for your challenging me on my quality, too. Hope you had a great Fourth! -- Doncram, 5 July 2008

HDs nationwide

What do you think of filing a bot request to help with Category:Historic districts in the United States? I'm thinking of asking for a bot to add the category itself to all articles with "hd" or "nhld" in the "type" line of the infobox, as long as those articles weren't already in a state-level category. Once this was complete, we'd be able to remove the category from the table without running the risk of missing any, and an edit to add the state-level category to each site could easily include removing the national category. It should be easy: far easier than trying to keep track of which states or letters had been sorted into state-level categories. Nyttend (talk) 19:02, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

I've filed the request, taking care to specify that we don't need to have the bot do anything other than adding the nationwide category. Thanks for your opinion! Nyttend (talk) 02:49, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I probably can't fix the problem with the missing File:Statesville Commercial Historic District, Madison Building, Between 125 & 145 East Broad Street, Statesville (Iredell County, North Carolina).jpg until Commons fixes their problem. I loaded a number of NC photos yesterday. I noticed that although the file File:Ingleside, State Route 1383, Iron Station vicinity (Lincoln County, North Carolina).jpg was loaded yesterday, it and a few others such as the Statesville file do not show up on my contributions page for commons. I reloaded the Ingleside file today. Again it does not show up on my contributions. The upload actually got error messages. I tried to redo it and it said that it existed. If you go to National Register of Historic Places listings in Lincoln County, North Carolina you will find that Ingleside has an X for the picture. I click on the X and a picture shows. Commons says there is a problem and I believe it. The Statesville file does not have the X. But I can't display the problem in Commons. I got the file name by copying it from Commons after I loaded it. I am going away for two days. I try to reload on Sunday and see if anything changes. If it does, I will comment out the picture until it does work. Until then, I am not loading pictures. I had hoped to finish the HABS pictures for North Carolina. I plan on getting a few N. Georgia pictures on my trip! If you have any ideas on the problem, please answer on my talk page. KudzuVine (talk) 03:06, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

  • Fixed the missing picture yesterday when I got back. Even though I originally copied the file name from the Commons page after uploading, it just did not seem to exist. I reloaded with no problems. The Ingleside photo seemed to be in Commons but the thumbnail would not display. I reloaded the photo on top of the old one with a warning displayed. Now the history only gives my upload for yesterday. But the thumbnail still would not display. I changed the thumbnail width to 99 px and it would display! I had run into this before, but it was for a jpg that was only 251 px wide. By changing it to 99 px instead of 100 px, the thumbnail would show. I don't know enough about the process to even guess why. KudzuVine (talk) 11:07, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

12 dups!

Hey, that must be some kind of record, to identify in one swipe! doncram (talk) 03:30, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

You do (hugely) deserve kudos, for taking the time to combine several different tools and actually look for the potential duplications. It seems like you are finding a lot. What is this Elkman "ambiguous" items tool to which you refer? I am not aware of that at all. About the NYS Saranac Lake ones, now-local-there editor User:Mwanner has been very clear that those are duplications. I can't fathom why they are duplicated. I'll browse/check on the other NYS ones you mention, but if they have the same refnum I agree already they must be duplicates. doncram (talk) 06:15, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Not only do i "think he would agree that they should be combined in the applicable county table", but i think that was done in all the Saranac Lake area NRHP tables already. I'm not looking at the relevant list-articles right now, but i would be surprised if there is anything remaining to be cleaned up regarding that. Hmm, i see no mention of these at wp:NRIS info issues; perhaps this was all addressed before that list of info issues was started up or perhaps he and i just didn't bother to go into it. doncram (talk) 16:09, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Good job! I like the idea of adding a "zero duplicates" line to show that there aren't any. Nyttend (talk) 16:57, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Louisville Bridge

Don't worry about adding it to the errors page (if you've not already): it was missing from the Clark County list because I removed it months ago. I'd not considered the Indiana bit, since I wasn't aware that the Indiana county across the river was Clark. Nyttend (talk) 01:54, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Jennys Lane Historic District

You added this to the Bristol County, RI list — had it previously been placed in the wrong list, or had it simply never been added to any list until now? Nyttend (talk) 14:08, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Re: Removal of coordinates label

The label was incorrectly specified and was producing gibberish when displayed. The documentation for {{Coord}} describes what's supposed to go in the coordinate parameters field. After looking at this more closely, I think the intention was:

40°48′54.612″N 111°35′15.432″W / 40.81517000°N 111.58762000°W / 40.81517000; -111.58762000 (Mormon Flat Breastworks)

I will make the correction. --Stepheng3 (talk) 19:50, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Maple Grove Sales Pavilion and Farrowing Barn

You should have read my edit summary :-) "Location found, near the intersection of Road 24 and Road W". It took several steps, but it wasn't hard:

  1. Find Tobias on Google Maps
  2. Observe that there's a Road T at its northern end, and that there's a Road U below its southern end
  3. Following this pattern, look farther south and find a Road W
  4. Observe that the north-south roads are numbered consecutively
  5. Look for a Road 24 and a Road 25, since a property numbered 2408 Road W is to be found on Road W between 24 and 25
  6. Glancing back at Tobias, observe that properties on the northern side of the street have even numbers
  7. Look along Road W between 24 and 25 and observe that there's a property on the northern side of the road, much closer to Road 24 than to Road 25, that fits the description properly
  8. Find its coordinates and post them.

Coords

(I don't completely understand the protocol of correspondence so forgive me if this is in the wrong place.)

Thanks for your suggestion. I think I understand it....

I've decided to concentrate my limited efforts on lighthouses (and other navigational objects, eg Nixes Mate), because I'm a mariner by avocation and many of the articles are stubs, so even the limited information in the USCG Light List is a real addition, and almost all of the ones I have looked at have bad coords. Since I own both the Light List (which finally, this year, has accurate positions for lighthouses) and charts of the whole USA, I can make fixes pretty quickly.

A question, since you seem to be technically savyy -- what would it take to write (and get approval for, I guess) a bot that would compare the coords of a NRHP place in its article to the coords in the state (county, city, town, etc,) list of places? I've noticed that about 10% of them are different, with the article correct and the list not so. Such a bot could help fix existing problems and also save a step for people like me..... Your trip to Oregon

Greetings, Sanfranman! While I have enjoyed the freedom of being largely alone snapping Oregon NRHP pics, I am in no way territorial about it. Hood River and Portland are both terrific places to hang out (I live about halfway in between), and if seeking out and photographing NRHP sites is something you enjoy then you'll have a great time. In short, be my guest! Grab as many pictures as you can! I hope I haven't picked all of the low-hanging fruit before you get to it. In any event, I am in the process of wrapping up a few tasks-in-progress before I take an indefinite wikibreak, so no concerns about getting in my "space". I hope you enjoy your trip up here!

And, yes, I and Werewombat are the same. I established the two accounts before Wikimedia rolled out the single-signon, and I haven't been motivated to make the effort to merge them. Also, thanks for the compliment on my work. —Ipoellet (talk) 21:27, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

I don't have any pics pending upload from Hood River. From Portland, I do have a handful of images from the Ladd's Addition and Grand Avenue historic districts, but both districts will still stand significantly more photo documentation on the wiki after my uploads. I intend not to pursue any more new photos in the next few months — that part of my wikibreak has already begun — but I'll let you know if I break that resolution.
My wikibreak doesn't have anything to do with disagreements and bickering that go on. I've survived plenty of that and it's not likely to drive me out now! No, it's just that I've been spending too much time on Wikipedia and the Commons and need to do some reprioritization in my life. —Ipoellet (talk) 04:22, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

National Register of Historic Places listings in Utah

What happened with all the renumbering? Did we simply type in the wrong numbers at another time, or have there been delistings that I've missed? Nyttend (talk) 13:01, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Now I see that there have been delistings; sorry for bothering you by not paying attention? Nyttend (talk) 13:05, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

The Auto-categorizing Robot

Back in July, I asked your opinion about filing a request for a bot to add HD categories to HD articles so that we could remove Category:Historic districts in the United States from {{Infobox nrhp}}. See Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/The Auto-categorizing Robot: a bot has now been written and approved to carry out this task. It will add a state-level category to any article with {{Infobox nrhp}} that is tagged with "hd" or "nhld", unless (1) the names of multiple states appear, in which case it will add Category:Historic districts in the United States [so we can sort it manually later], or (2) there's already an HD category on the article. Varshney

Hi, if you have time to help again re User talk:99.234.174.143 it would be appreciated. I think the reverted text below "External links" on Varshney is in an Indian language rather than nonsense, but it can't stay. (I'm up to my limit on WP:3RR.) - Fayenatic (talk) 21:17, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

I was hoping you'd add it to your watchlist, but the reverting seems to have stopped for now. Although there is still a long and dreadful History section, the tag is no longer being removed. - Fayenatic (talk) 12:36, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

National Register of Historic Places listings in southern and western Puerto Rico

I have reverted your edits on National Register of Historic Places listings in southern and western Puerto Rico for Ponce as, in the process, we lost the info for all the other 30 or so towns also listed there. Thanks for trying, I am sure it was an honest error on your part; I couldn't find those 30 or so other (lost) towns added to any newly created article anywhere in wikipedia.

I'd like to incorporate the Casa Paoli entry you added, but have found no verification of the addition to the NRHP anywhere. If you have it, including the NRHP reference number, it would be beneficial. I would be happy to make the edit. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 00:01, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Rowley House in Dane County NRHP table

Hi JD ... I see that you changed the spelling of the Rowley House listing in the Dane County NRHP list a while back from Newman C. Rowley House to Numan C. Rowley House. Are you certain of that spelling? This document has the spelling as Newman. I've emailed the Middleton Historical Society to see what they have to say, but I thought I'd check with you as well. What is your source for the Numan spelling? --sanfranman59 (talk) 18:15, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi again. FYI ... I heard back from Scott Bachmeier at the Middleton Historical Society. He says that the correct spelling is Newman. --sanfranman59 (talk) 21:38, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Wow, you wrote back before I managed to reply. When changing the spelling to "Numan", I simply adopted the spelling of the name as it appears in a plaque on the front of the building. That plaque was put up by the Middleton Historical Society itself. Isn't it embarrassing that they have the name misspelled on their own plaque? -- Especially since the building houses the Middleton Historical Society. Well, that's Wisconsin for you.... Reminds me of all those handpainted signs I used to see when I was a kid with a backwards s. Hang on -- I will upload the plaque in a minute. Jdsteakley (talk) 21:44, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Gray County Courthouse (Old)

I got coords for this site by a combination of two methods: Street View and the Kansas State Historical Society. Don't know if you know this, but KSHS has a very well-developed website, with forms and color photos for most sites other than restricted address, and they update it regularly, so the old courthouse is on there. Knowing what it looked like, it was easy for me to find it with Street View. Nyttend (talk) 22:54, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Geocoding NRHP

Hey there, Thanks for geocoding the new Texas NRHP site for me. How do you go about doing this? I'm not sure what the best/most accurate way to do this is. Thanks. 25or6to4 (talk) 04:46, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Links for delisted properties

I restore the links primarily because the properties are still notable; after all, notability isn't temporary, so the sources are still out there. I don't know whether it's possible to write decent articles about all delisted properties, but it's definitely possible for some; for an example, look at Plunketts Creek Bridge No. 3, which was delisted more than six years before Ruhrfisch began the article.
