It didn't have a lot of info about the early years of the station, so I set out to rectify it and bring it to the standard of other GAs and near-GAs I've written. That's some really good work! :) You ever have a spare couple moments, go nuts on WAIW. Dates back to 1946 and is connected to WINC (AM). WINC-AM was my undertaking. Took it from a start to C, to GA, and the only radio station FA (total brag). :D I don't have the energy to do the same with WAIW (the former WINC-FM).

I miss the old "Jazz90", it was a good little station when it was WDCU. WPFW got their entire Jazz library with the sale, so that moved there, but Jazz had a 24-hour home at 90.1 and it sucked to lose that to C-SPAN. You only get occasional Jazz mixed in with the Pacifica shows on WPFW, which is fine, but when you wanna hear Jazz...you wanna hear Jazz. Unfortunately, out my way, neither matters much anymore. WPFW gets wiped out by heavy bleed over from an over-modulated WHFW (yeah, two frequencies away), while WCSP is completely covered now by WVRS. Luckily, there is Jazz24 from KNKX in Seattle...and they stream online. :) - Neutralhomer • Talk • 20:31 on January 25, 2021 (UTC)

I have yet to scout out Virginia this year, but as always my ability to write articles that I like is really dependent on paper coverage. I got really lucky with KRMZ since Colorado's state historical newspaper collection had 1980s and 1990s Steamboat Pilot records, which dropped the surprise that the original KSBS-TV was an independent local station before going Telemundo! Sadly, The Winchester Star (earlier The Winchester Evening Star) stinks for online articles. The Library of Virginia probably have their archives like all state libraries do, I just don't have access. I just go to the library (5 miles away in Winchester) and get the hard copy of the WINC-AM/FM file. :) This, though, is my all time favorite radio station history site. It's not newspapers, but it sure comes close. Back in the 40s, 50s, 60s, even into the 70s, the magazines and almanacs really documented EVERYTHING that went on. Someone sneezed, they recorded it and it got published.

But, if you have access to the Library of Colorado, then you will probably have access to the Library of Virginia. Up to a certain point, you will be able to search The Northern Virginia Daily for more related articles on WINC-FM (now WAIW) and you can, of course, cross-reference what I have on the WINC (AM) article. It's nothing you have to do today, just when you get time. Trust me, neither of those stations are going anywhere. WAIW just got sold to EMF and WINC-AM is the Beck/Rush/Hannity/Levin news/talker for the area. I would not rule it out. :) They have newspapers, in Virginia, dating back to 1736. If it exists, we kept it. Other states and other countries too. :D That part is new. They didn't have that last time I looked. I believe Library of Virginia (LoV) is connected with the Library of Congress (LoC), since it all started here. :) You register here at the top of the screen. DYK help needed

There is currently a shortage of DYK prep set builders and it is difficult to keep up with the rate required. Producing a balanced set is quite an interesting task. I am not able to both build prep sets and move sets into the queue. As a regular DYK contributor, have you considered promoting hooks to prep? @Mvcg66b3r: Working on this tonight. It's a flag that adds a little box to the top, and I also plan a category separate from the infobox. For a demonstration, look at KWGN-TV — I've put that page live with a new ATSC 3.0 category, an extra column on the subchannels table listing host stations for each sub, and the new top label. Oh, one more thing! "PSIP" is only extant in ATSC 1.0, so while I'm already an evangelist for dropping (PSIP) from these infoboxes, it's probably even better to do with stations involved in an ATSC 3.0 arrangement. FYI, ATSC 3.0 permits services to have major channel numbers that are three digits, and per a perusal of SiliconDust's forums, most ATSC 3.0 test stations do this by simulcasting channel 7.1 on 107.1 and so on. WikiCup 2021 March newsletter

Round 1 of the competition has finished; it was a high-scoring round with 21 contestants scoring more than 100 points. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 55 contestants qualifying. You will need to finish among the top thirty-two contestants in Round 2 if you are to qualify for Round 3. Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

• Epicgenius led the field with a featured article, nine good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 945 points.
• Bloom6132 was close behind with 896 points, largely gained from 71 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
• ImaginesTigers, who has been editing Wikipedia for less than a year, was in third place with 711 points, much helped by bringing League of Legends to featured article status, exemplifying how bonus points can boost a contestant's score.
• Amakuru came next with 708 points, Kigali being another featured article that scored maximum bonus points.
• Ktin, new to the WikiCup, was in fifth place with 523 points, garnered from 15 DYKs and 34 "In the news" items.
• The Rambling Man scored 511 points, many from featured article candidate reviews and from football related DYKs.
• Gog the Mild, last year's runner-up, came next with 498 points, from a featured article and numerous featured article candidate reviews.
• Hog Farm, at 452, scored for a featured article, four good articles and a number of reviews.
• Le Panini, another newcomer to the WikiCup, scored 438 for a featured article and three good articles.
• Lee Vilenski, last year's champion, scored 332 points, from a featured article and various other sport-related topics.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. In Round 1, contestants achieved eight featured articles, three featured lists and one featured picture, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. They completed 97 good article reviews, nearly double the 52 good articles they claimed. Contestants also claimed for 135 featured article and featured list candidate reviews. There is no longer a requirement to mention your WikiCup participation when undertaking these reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or something else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

Cause she technically uses more than one name (actually 3 or 4), so I could knock it down to "On four separate occasions, in early 2019 and late 2020, beginning on February 16, a woman, completely unassociated Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen and KBQS-LP, claiming to be from the San Francisco area and using a false identity, filed applications regarding the station, making many outlandish and patently false claims." Sounds about right for some stations. :) We had one translator here in Virginia that held onto a construction permit in Charlottesville (later moving it to Harrisonburg, about 20 miles away) for 15 years(!), it was NUTS! I'll let you guess who owns that translator. :)

Hi Sammi Brie. I've got a question (more of a comment) about your GA review at Talk:Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite/GA1 that's related to images used in the article. I'm not sure I agree with your assessment of the non-free images being used in the article; one of them has just been removed by a bot for not being compliant with WP:NFCCP and there's another one that almost certainly fails WP:NFCC#8 that I'm deciding whether to currently prod it or bring it up for discussion at FFD instead. I'm not sure how the removal of these two images would affect the GA review, but non-free use is not usually considered compliant just because an article is a GA or FA as explained in WP:ITSGA. Maybe you can clarify why you feel these two images satisfy all ten NFCCP since having a non-free use rationale is only WP:JUSTONE or the ten non-free content us criteria? -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:00, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: This is why I hesitate about GA reviews...I still feel new and raw when I do them, and the learning curve has been a bit steep at times. I didn't catch that the NFUR was for another article altogether on the infobox page. Really, the other one probably fails NFCC#8 too, now that we have the Graceland suit image which was added later (without that I think it would have been fine). I apologize if my previous post seem to be criticizing you as a GA reviewer; that wasn't my intent at all. I realized you didn't upload the files and add them to the article. I was really just curious about your reasoning for assessing the non-free images as OK and whether I was missing something. The bot removal was simply done as part of routine NFC cleanup and the rationale can be cleaned up if necessary to stop the bot from removing the image (though there's another file that's basically the same being used in Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite (album) which means two really similar non-free files probably aren't needed). If there's a problem though it would be whether it's OK to use an album cover for primary identification of what seems to be a TV show. Perhaps it would be better to use the opening screenshot of the actual broadcast itself or a the cover art for a DVD version (here's one example, but there seem to be several different versions) of the broadcast. As for the jumsuit screenshot, the free image of the jumpsuit used later in the article is one reason why said screenshot isn't needed, but another is that most of the DVD covers I've seen show him in the same jumpsuit which only further makes the screenshot unneeded in my opinion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:19, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: I'd be curious most particularly to find other cases of the use of album covers in similar situations (live concert/TV presentation and a separate article on an album of that concert). I am also going to ping original GA nominator GDuwen in re: the possibility of using the open to the broadcast as the source for an infobox image. I'd considered that the other image was appropriate since there would not be any freely available photos of the concert itself, but given the jumpsuit photo, on second thought it's redundant. I've seen cases where a film soundtrack cover has been moved to the main infobox of an article about a film when there's no movie poster being used, but I think this is more of an exception and only for older movies when there's a chance the same imagery was used for both and there's no stand-alone article for the movie soundtrack; in other words, the moving of the album cover is sort of a workaround to avoid the album cover from being deleted per WP:FILMSCORE or MOS:TVPRODUCTION. Anyway, it might be better to continue this discussion on the article's talk page then here since your user talk page might otherwise become bogged down. I noticed that it was not particularly the original poster for the concert, but that it was already in the article for a while. I started to think that maybe it was the poster itself! I'll upload a reduced-size version of one of the originals and settle this issue.

For the second picture, I think it does meet the standard for fair use. It is illustrating the article of the concert itself with a widely used shot of Presley (often reproduced in newspapers of the time, but I was thus far unable to locate the original handout portrait to confirm the lack of a copyright notice and upload it straight to Commons). Since we discuss the performer and the concert at length, I don't think the picture of the jumpsuit itself would be enough to properly illustrate the article. His likeness seems to be relevant in my estimation.--GDuwenHoller! 19:18, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

I think the second image meets the standard for fair use, but fair use and non-free content are different when it comes to non-free image use on Wikipedia. Generally for a screenshot such as this, it's the screenshot itself that needs to be subject of sourced critical commentary per WP:FILMNFI; so, discussing the performer and the concert in general is not enough (at least in my opinion). The fact that it might be a widely used shot representing how Elvis appeared at the concert, on the other hand, might help establish it's context of use, but again there probably needs to be some sourced content in the article stating as much about that particular image to strengthen the chance of the file surviving a FFD discussion about it. In other words, you can't just say it was representative if reliable sources didn't say as much. My guess is that most likely any representative image used in the press at the time is going to a PR photo released by whomever produced the broadcast; so, if you can narrow that down, then it's possible it might be PD due to a lack of copyright notice. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:35, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Hey

Can you fix the KPLR-TV and KTVI pages. As KTVI declined to carry Fox Kids, KPLR considered picking up the Fox Kids shows. Had it occured, KTVI would have picked up Wild About Animals and Ths Swamp Critters of Lost Lagoon in the fall of 1996, then picking up Popular Mechanics for Kids and Peer Pressure in the fall of 1997. Can you fix the KDNL-TV, Fox Kids, Repercussions of the 1994–1996 United States broadcast TV realignment and KPLR-TV pages. Should you fix the citations? KPLR-TV tried to steal the St. Louis Fox Kids affiliation from KDNL as KTVI declined (after it switched from ABC to Fox in 1995), but Ted Koplar says no, and KNLC picked up. Passing GA reviews

Sammi Brie, in your last couple of GA reviews, when passing them, instead of just placing the GA template on the page, you have added "subst:" before the GA, which expands it into other template code. Although it looks the same on the page to the naked eye, it has undesirable results, since various GA processes and others are expecting the GA template to still be there. In future, please be sure to use the GA template in the normal way when you complete a review; the same applies with the FailedGA template if the nomination doesn't pass. Thanks for reviewing!
