Issues edit

I have noted the new articles you have created (Mary Osborn and Sara Borrell Ruiz) and I find a few issues that should be pointed out to you:

  1. The biologies of these women that are found at the SEBBM website are not proper content for a direct translation into English for Wikipedia publication. They are entirely too flattering and praising of the women involved. While that is appropriate for a biography about your society's prominent members, it is not appropriate for a Wikipedia article, and does not meet the requirements of neutrality.
  2. Your articles rely solely on the SSEBM biography as their source. Articles (biographies especially) should rely on multiple independent reliable sources.
  3. Your username implies that you are editing on behalf of the SSEBM, which is not allowed. Please pick a username that represents yourself rather than your organization.

Sara Borrell Ruiz edit

I have tagged Sara Borrell Ruiz for speedy deletion as it is a copyright violation of http://www.sebbm.es/ES/divulgacion-ciencia-para-todos_10/febrero-2012---sara-borrell_639 . Direct translations, such as the one you did, are considered "derivative works" and cannot be done if the original is not published under a Wikipedia-compatible free license due to copyright issues. To quote from the "Google translation" of http://www.sebbm.es/ES/aviso :

This site and all material contained in it are protected by intellectual property rights and / or industry, and are the property of SPANISH SOCIETY OF BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY or third parties. Therefore, users can not modify, copy, reproduce, transmit, distribute, publish, create derivative works from, display or otherwise transfer or commercially exploit any material contained in this site, in whole or in part.

Obviously, my use the above quotation in this particular case falls under "fair use" exceptions to copyright laws, as would minor quotations used in a larger article about Sara Borrell Ruiz. I encourage you to research her and research Wikipedia's notability requirements and if you find that she meets them, use reliable sources and create a new article about her. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 03:35, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Margarita Salas edit

I undid your 2 edits to Margarita Salas due to the fact that it was an almost direct translation of http://www.sebbm.es/ES/divulgacion-ciencia-para-todos_10/diciembre-2011---margarita-salas_607/ . See my comments above regarding copyright. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 03:43, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Sara Borrell Ruiz edit

A tag has been placed on Sara Borrell Ruiz, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

original version was an English translation of http://www.sebbm.es/ES/divulgacion-ciencia-para-todos_10/febrero-2012---sara-borrell_639 and therefore a suspected copyright violation. I don't have enough time or interest to rewrite this to Wikipedia standards. This person MAY be notable enough so this deletion should be without prejudice of creating a non-copyright-violating article on her.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

March 2013 edit

Your additions have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text, or images borrowed from other websites, or printed material without a verifiable license; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Yunshui  07:56, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

One minor clarification: Small amounts of text, such as direct or even translated near-direct quotations, are allowed if they fall under the fair use exception to copyright laws. Likewise, images which are under copyright and whose specific use in a specific situation qualifies under the law's narrow fair use exception are allowed. However, the contributions that I reverted or tagged for deletion were clearly well outside of any fair use exception. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:13, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
